Overview

Why It's Great

The McAllister is the shoe of CEO’s. This shoe is the epitome of a businessman who is at the top of his career, or on his way there, and needs the footwear to help get him there. It’s a member of our Timeless Classics Collection, which has spoken to the success of the American man for the last 100 years. Wingtips are a classic style that originated in the Scottish Highlands hundreds of years ago, but remain as classic as ever and are a must-have for any man’s shoe collection.

How It's Made

Made of our quality calfskin leather, with precise perforations and exact stitching, this shoe is a work of art to wear on your feet. Handcrafted on our best-selling 65 Last, it shouts American styling, quality and craftsmanship. The black McAllister is our most serious and sophisticated dress shoe, and the other colors, like Walnut and Oxblood, are incredibly versatile.

How to Wear It

They can be worn in virtually any business environment with anything from a suit or slacks, to khakis, chinos, and jeans. To complete the outfit, it pairs beautifully with the coordinating colors and perfing on our Manistee belt. Any man would love to try walking a day in a McAllister man’s shoes. Your feet deserve it.

Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

McAllister Wingtip Oxford is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 528.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Unsure if you can find a better quality shoe. Worth every penny, and then they add the refurbishing option. Truly a hallmark of American craftmanship. I might not ever buy a different brand of shoe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Quality, Superior Value As my first Allen Edmonds shoe, I have to say that I am very impressed. The conceptions surrounding the brand, including its attention to detail, traditional craftsmanship, and quality materials, are all evident in this shoe. Furthermore, the McAllister in Walnut is the perfect shoe for business casual engagements or to dress up jeans or chinos. You won't be disappointed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Unfortunate Color Inconsistencies I love AE shoes. I have 2 pairs of strands and the hopkinson captoe oxford. I wanted to add the oxblood Mcallister, but the pair I ordered fit oddly in the toe. It seemed like a construction mishap, because I've tried them on in the store and did not have this problem. I ordered a second pair in exchange. The tongue was a completely different color than the rest of the shoe. Noticeably different to the point of being unwearable. These are not factory seconds - at least they shouldn't be. I'll have to return a second pair, unfortunately. Beautiful shoes but in consistent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the Strand. Gotta love The Strand Theses shoes are beautiful. They are the most comfortable shoes I own. I own 6 pair of AE and these are my absolutely my favorite.

My Hopkinsons fit like a glove in a 10D. As they are made with different lasts, what size would you recommend in the Mcallister?

Asked by: Harry
The Hopkinson is constructed on the 201 last which has a higher cone, providing more room for a higher instep. It has a fuller forefoot for more comfort and slightly chiseled toe profile that complements our iconic 65 last, which is the last used for the McAllister. It is difficult to recommend a size through this channel and guarantee a proper fit because each last will fit differently based on the contours of your feet. It is vitally important to visit an Allen Edmonds retail store or retail partner for a professional fitting to increase your chances of being fit correctly for each last and style. However, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoes in returnable condition.

Why is the McAllister no longer going to be available in a burgundy tone?

With merlot on clearance, the McAllister will soon no longer be available in burgundy. Yes, it is available in chili, which is reddish, but isn't burgundy the classic color for a full brogue balmoral wingtip? Will you start making it in oxblood instead? (Personal taste, but I don't think this particular style looks very good in chili). Asking merely out of interest, as I just picked up a pair in merlot on closeout.
Asked by: srlclark
OP updating here: I'm very happy to see that just over a month after I posted this question, the McAllister has become available in oxblood. It's great that it's being offered in one of the burgundy tones, both of which look much nicer than chili for this style.

What is the difference in the color merlot and dark chili?

Asked by: Chili
In my opinion, the differences are: - there is much more brown in chili than there is merlot. - there is quite a lot of purple in merlot and there is none in chili. - they have a different shade of red in them. - overall, I would say that merlot is burgundy and chili is mahogany. - I like merlot much more than chili, especially for the McAllister.

Edge dressing for Bourbon?

What, if any edge dressing would I use on Bourbon McAllisters with a V Tap sole? This is my first V Tap I have purchased all others have been a leather sole. Also, can I use the bourbon polish on these shoes or do I need to go with walnut?
Asked by: Mike
The Black edge dressing.

Why is McAllister with leather oak sole not offered in Bourbon Calf? I see that it is offered in the Combination Tap.

Asked by: Fiftiesman
No good reason that I can see. I had to order the Bourbon with a custom leather sole, which set me back an extra $40.

What happens if the tongue is not completely enclosed when tying the McAllister's laces?

I understand that the McAllister is a Balmoral and the tongue should be covered completely when laced and tied. However, the ones that I have seem to have a slight separation and the tongue isn't completely covered. Trying to tie them to a point where the tongue is completely covered causes a lot of discomfort on the top of my feet. Its probably a nuance and insignificant, but will it affect the aging/care of the leather? For the future, should I buy a different size? I was told that I have a slight in-step and that Blucher styles will fit better, but absolutely love the look of these shoes. Thanks!
Asked by: Anthony18
You can always try a wider size; Allen Edmonds provides for the cost-free and hassle-free return of unworn shoes. Do not tie your shoes so tight that they hurt! I would encourage you not to worry so much about a little bit of gapping on a balmoral; it's not unusual and no one will notice but you.

what is the difference between the 65 and 79 last

Ordered Randolfs in 11, (79 last) too small. McAllister in 11.5 (65 last) seems too big. Is the difference the last?
Asked by: CJF
Might be. AE has a good guide to the lasts here: http://www.allenedmonds.com/shoes-101/lasts.html The answer probably depends on where it feels too big/small. Note that the 11.5D may be about the same width as an 11E but it would also be longer. The 65 is also longer and narrower than 79 to begin with. I learned the hard way that it is important to get the fit right on these. Fortunately, you can play with both length quite a bit so it shouldn't be hard to get the fit right. If you can go to somewhere that has them available to try on. The store here didn't have the dark chili, but I went there to get the fit right before I bought online.
