Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

Our new Dark Chili and Oxblood burnished leathers can be cleaned using a damp cloth to remove dirt and any residue. Follow by using a soft cloth to apply our Allen Edmonds Saddle Soap which cleans all smooth leather shoes while restoring the leather's natural oils.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great fit, sharp looking, but concerned about the toe cap appearance I am a recent convert to Allen Edmonds shoes and love the brown Strandmok and brown and black Park Avenues I have purchased. They fit great, and the quality of the leather is levels above the other brands I have worn. The only area of concern is how the toe caps on my black Park Avenues look. Is it common for the mold used for the cap to visibly end before the stitching of the toe cap? Since the mold doesn't extend all the way, it is creating a noticeable ridge approximately 1/4 inch from the stitching of the toe cap. My brown pair doesn't have this issue and I'm curious if anyone else has shoes with this type of defect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old reliable After many years of recrafting, my old Park Avenue shoes wore out. Ordered a new paid from AE. Upon receipt, I found the shoes to be not nearly the AE quality that I was accustomed to. I packaged up and sent back with a note stating the quality was not their standard. AE customer service was very helpful shipping out replacement. I received a replacement pair on Monday. Wore to work all day Tuesday. Fit like a glove and are perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AE hit it out of the park with Cordovan On 12/04/2016 I visited the AE store at the Southeast Plaza in Orange County, California because I was having serious fit problems with a pair of black Park Avenues I purchased at Nordstroms two years ago. I live 70 miles away in San Diego but was desperate so I made the drive. The pair I purchased at Nordstroms was an 11D. AE manager Dan Stratton spent about an hour with me and when all was said and done Dan had me sized as a 10.5 EEE. I subsequently purchased a pair of Park Avenue Brown Genuine Shell Cordovans. The Cordovans were shipped to my home and I was blown away at the quality and finish of the shoe. The shoe fits and wears like a glove and my sizing problem has been resolved. Nordstroms subsequently offered to replace my pair of black Park Avenue 11 D's with a pair of 10.5 EEE's so now I have two pairs of beautiful Park Avenues that are a dream to wear. I did try on some Italian shoes to see if I just needed to change brands but the fit with the Italian brands was a joke. Way too narrow and they don't offer widths beyond D width. I do not have a wide foot but because the Park Avenue is built on a narrow last I needed the EEE width to get the proper fit. Good luck finding that option with an Italian brand.

Ask & Answer

How much extra space lengthwise is normal for this shoe?

I ordered this shoe recently and want to make sure the shoe is not too long. How much space should there be between the big toe and the end of the shoe for this style?
Asked by: Anonymous
The Park Avenue is designed with an elongated toe so you will have more room than most other shoes. However, you should judge whether or not a shoe fits by how the ball of your foot feels across the width of the shoe and not by where your toes end up. It is vitally important to visit an Allen Edmonds retail store or retail partner for a professional fitting to increase your chances of being fit correctly for each last and style. However, keep in mind that products purchased on may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoes in returnable condition.

width size??

Hi, this is my first time I've looked for a dress shoes. I from Vietnam so I can't go to your store to get fitted directly. I need your help... My foot-print width (on paper) is 11.5cm and the total girth around my foot ball is 28cm. So what width size I should choose?? D, E or EE?? Thank you!!
Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your interest. We cannot recommend sizes through this channel and guarantee a proper fit. We suggest visiting a local store that can do a professional fitting on you on a Brannock device. Here are some links about lasts and fit that you may find helpful: Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

What color belt to match navy blue Park Aves?

I am looking to purchase the Park Aves in Midnight Navy. But there isn't a Midnight Navy belt option. What color belts have you paired with the midnight navy shoes?
Asked by: Anonymous
We recommend a dark navy belt for these styles and we will offer a matching belt soon. In the meantime, we suggest a black dress belt like the Midland Ave. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

Will dainite sole conversions require changes to the footbed or require nails?

If I have a leather soled Park Ave, and sent it in for recrafting and a dainite outsole conversion, would it require nails to be put in the shoe, and/or changes to the footbed/insole? Also, if I were send it back for a second recrafting(after a dainite conversion), would the recraft service revert back to a leather sole, or would it continue to be repaired with dainite? I understand that a fee is needed for the initial conversion, but do subsequent recraftings require a conversion fee to continue using dainite?
Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your question. If you have a sole conversion done, any subsequent recrafting would keep that sole conversion in place. There is not additional work done to the insole for this type of conversion. The Dainite sole is stitched on the same way as a leather sole would be.

Oxblood Finish Shoe Care

AE, I am accustomed to conditioning and saddle soaping my oxfords before polishing as part of my shoe care routine. The AE store representative advised me to not condition or saddle soap the Park Avenue Oxblood oxford. The reason is due to the ingredients from the conditioner/saddle may distort the Oxblood finish. I request AE to publish a recommendation. Thank you. Respectfully, Will Mach
Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your inquiry. Saddle Soap can be used on Oxblood styles, but we do not recommend using the Conditioner Cleaner. The Cleaner Conditioner is better for shoes that are heavily soiled or that have developed product buildup over the years. You can find the care instructions for the Park Avenue (or any other style) here on our website, by clicking the 'Product Care' tab. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

Is shoe width affected by length?

My feet are an 11EEE, but AE shoes always feel a bit snug, despite the fact that they are obviously well-made. Would getting a half-size larger make a difference?
Asked by: Anonymous
No. Get the width you need and don't expect it to stretch.

True to Size ? For Last 65

I'm a US 9.5 on a Brannock Device. I read that Last 65 is long & narrow. Should I down by half a size, or I can still order a 9.5 ? I wear 9.5 for all my current dress shoes.
Asked by: Anonymous
Nothing will ever replace an actual fitment of the shoe you are considering to determine which size is best for you. That being said, personally I size down by a half on the 65 relative to my brannock. My brannock also splits the D/E width and I take an E for the 65 in calf leather, but a D fit excellent in cordovan.
