Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Product I am certain this product is adding years to the life of my shoes. I have been using this cleaner and conditioner for over a year. My shoes show no signs of drying or cracking. February 14, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect into shoe conditioner! About 6 months ago I purchased my first bottle of shoe conditioner and was so amazed by it that I immediately stocked up and purchased two more when a deal came up. It has certainly saved some of my older shoes and has increased the look and feel of the leather on my best shoes! My one complaint actually comes from my wife who doesn't care for the smell. Personally I don't mind the smell at all as it reminds me of a shoe store I went to growing up! June 24, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by faded my shoes i get this online to clean my neumok and strandmok. the conditioner changed the color of my shoes and faded it. avoid April 18, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Significant improvements in look and color (Walnut Park Ave's). Like new. The New York winter of 2015-2016 was long and cold. Snow/rain would randomlly fall and it would get on my Walnut Park Ave's. White residue would appear near the soles and after using a damp paper towel to get off all the elements and dirt there were stains. I thought my WPA's were destroyed but using this cleaner significantly improved the color of the leather. The stains are unrecognizable. They look significantly better; like new. Some reviews say the color changes which did happen to mine. The moisture of the conditioner is absorbed by the leather making it wet thus darker. Walnut is unforgiving. LET THEM DRY before shining. You'll see them regain their color as they dry. If not... call customer service, of course. June 26, 2015

I have used the conditioner/cleaner on several shoes without an issue, but I used it on a brand new pair of walnut McAllisters and it stripped the finish off a large part of the shoe. Is this common? How can this be fixed?

Given a shoe for which this product is recommended, can overuse of the conditioner cleaner damage the shoe? If so, what would constitute overuse; i.e. every day, every week, etc.?

Answer:
This is a very good question. While it will not damage the leather, it can darken or lighten the leather overtime as the cloth gradually picks up the finish of burnished styles with normal use. Since the main purpose of the Conditioner Cleaner is to clean the leather, it should be followed by a leather lotion, shoe polish or shoe cream to moisturize it; therefore if used alongside these other products on a daily basis, you could run the risk of saturating the leather. We suggest applying the Conditioner Cleaner every 4 or 5 wears or as needed.

I have a pair of Cliftons in Walnut that I wore through the winter with overshoes. Now they have started to darken from what I suspect is rubber residue from my overshoes. What do you recommend using to restore the shoes to their previous condition?

Answer:
Fine leather tends to naturally slightly darken or lighten over time with normal wear, however these changes are typically fairly insignificant. Also, rubber overshoes should not affect the leather. Applying Conditioner Cleaner and Walnut Premium Polish as needed will help retain the color, but there will still be some slight changes in tone or finish overtime. If the leather is darkening excessively or you still have any concerns, please feel free contact our customer service team directly at eservice@allenedmonds.com or 1-877-817-7615 (Mon-Fri 7:00AM-8PM CST) so they can better understand what you are experiencing.

Our Allen Edmonds Conditioner/Cleaner applied with a soft cloth would be exactly what you need for a healthy and supple-but matte finish on your Ashton's, buff it off with a horsehair brush as a final step.

Answer:
The Conditioner Cleaner is a leather softening emollient that removes common surface area dirt and dust while it moisturizes the leather; it does not add shine. It is typically used before polishing shoes, however it can be used on most fine leathers. We do recommend checking with the manufacturer of your leather blazer for any specific care instructions prior to using this product.

Answer:
The Conditioner Cleaner is primarily used to remove common surface area dirt and dust prior to polishing while helping maintain the softness of the leather. The Leather Lotion is specially formulated to maintain beauty and protect the surface of fine leather goods which keeps the leather moisturized and helps prevent it from drying out; as fine leather tends to do since it’s a natural material. The use of these products is dependent upon each customer’s desired result, however, when using them together we recommend applying the Conditioner Cleaner first, and follow with the Leather Lotion; much like one would wash their hands first and apply hand lotion afterwards.

Can I use this on the inside of the shoe? Should I be using this in the tongue of the shoe too?

Answer:
The cleaner conditioner can be used under the tongue. While it will not negatively affect the leather lining, cleaning it is typically not necessary.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

We don’t recommend using Conditioner Cleaner on Cordovan Leather because this type of leather requires different care than calfskin due to its different properties. To remove any natural oils or residue in areas where the shoe flexes, and to maintain the leather's quality, simply brush the leather with a horsehair shine brush or wipe with a cotton flannel polishing cloth. Polish occasionally with Allen Edmonds Cordovan Care Cream to protect the leather and maintain its rich color. Further details and videos are available on our Caring for Your Shoes page:
