American Grain Collection - Multi Pocket Briefcase is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Extraordinary Quality. Pebble grain leather is a fantastic briefcase material for those of us who don't have to be in suits everyday. I also have pebble grain MacNeil's and Rainer's that I like to wear with the bag. It's just so awesome. The leather is silky and soft, but the heft is substantial and the bag can stand on its own. You can "feel" it's made from full grain leather. Love the zippers. They have a durable feel. So glad there are no buckles. I hate buckles. Zippers make the bag much less bulky. Hardware on this bag is excellently chosen for it's size and color. Shoulder strap is one solid, thick piece of leather that feels like it'll last forever. Should pad is still breaking in, but still gives decent cushion. The two exterior pockets... the zippered pocket can hold some Bose earbud headphones, my wallet and keys. The other pocket with the flap is a magnetic closure which I use for my Hobinichi day planner. Fits great. Fountain pen users - I'm able to just barely snug in a Franklin-Christoph Model 03 into the pen holder. It's tight right now, but will probably break in some. I'm not even going to try my Model 66. Medium size FP's will work fine. Lamy's (Lamy 2000 is too big), Mid-size Pilot's, etc... My all-time favorite, Parker Jotter, fits perfectly. I use it for real estate and writing. I'm able to get my laptop, lots of space for brochures, pens, cards, my phone, notebook, wallet, and even reading materials, etc... It's also a perfect look for real estate. I can bring it into any home and no one would think I make too much. It's almost a stealth bag. I need to maintain a middle class image, and this is awesome for it. Negatives..... No laptop sleeve/pocket. It could have been just a simple piece of fabric to hold it snug in the middle of the bag, but no - there is no laptop sleeve. For me, I've got a ThinkPad which is super durable, and I don't fling my bag around anyway, so it's not a big deal. Would have been a nice touch though... They have 2 oddly sized pockets (one in each inside compartment) that look like they could have been cell phone pockets from the early 2000's. If you still have a Nokia flip phone, there's a pocket for that. Also, if you still carry one of those Palm Pilots, you'll have a pocket for that. If you've got a cell phone made AFTER 2009, there's not a dedicated pocket for you. I really don't know what those two pockets are for... Overall: I love this bag. If you're on the fence, jump off and get this. It's so hard to find a high quality bag business casual bag without all the bulky straps and buckles like I'm going on an expedition in the 1800's to find the NW Passage. Or a super fine and slick formal looking bag. This blend of materials and style makes it a winner in all business casual and modern settings. It's classic without being vintage. It's high quality without screaming expensive. And I love all things pebble grain. It's got no laptop sleeve, but it doesn't worry me. However, if it did have a laptop sleeve - no-brainer 5 stars. If something happened to this bag, theft, fire, etc... I wouldn't hesitate to buy this exact same model again. Immediately.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great grain of leather! The thread stitching on the outer pockets of the brief case is coming apart!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from If You Sell It Own It Just to qualify myself, I am an avid and loyal customer of AE for many years owning over 30 pairs of their shoes and another 30 of other Italians. I also own many AE belts. I have had excellent experiences in recrafting, retail stores, and all channels. I own several breifcases. The American Grain was purchased to replace the bag that I use everyday and had many million miles of air travel on. After 10 years and several refinishes it was time to reire it. Other than the fact that the American does not have a laptop consideration I enjoy it and use it daily other than fomal meetings. I have owned the bag for approximately 18 months. About 6 months ago I had noticed that the stiching at the top inside pocket had become loose. The only item that I place there is my wallet so it is never bulging. Over time the thread has seperated the entire length of the pocket on the left side. I called recrafting and was told that the bag was not made by AE and I should call the manufacturer. I train my teams to take ownership of an issue....not this. I was willing to pay to have it repaired properly as the lining had to com out to be repaired properly. I took the bag to the retail store where i purchased it and they surprisingly could not help. My leather repair person stitched it but had to piecre the double sided lining. It's only a matter of time before this lining will start to rip and a great bag will be trash. I am surprised and extremely disappointed in this experience. In my opionion the bag should have been taken, examined and repaired or replaced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best briefcase ever! The bag is awesome. The American Grain has a great look and feel. It is exactly how I envisioned it. I like the separation between the compartments and the lining. I can keep my laptop separate from files and papers. The two quick access pockets out front are excellent. I was very happy with my first Allen Edmonds brief case and this one also did not disappoint. Best brief case ever!
