Extraordinary service.
Jason Jones is extraordinarily good at his job.
Mr. Jones is the sales associate who guided me through the purchase of a very nice pair of Edmund Allen shoes, and he did it with a plain and earnest expertise that allayed all my concerns, forestalled any misgivings, and laid the foundation for what I truly expect to be twenty years of satisfaction with these shoes.
I have wistfully browsed the clearance rack at the Allen Edmonds outlet store often before, yet have never made a purchase. Last Saturday, Mr. Jones, a sales associate, found me trying on a pair that mostly fit. He introduced himself, measured my foot, and made a better size recommendation. He was able to target the perfect fit for my arch and instep, such that every shoe he brought me felt exactly right for my feet. Moreover, as he brought me alternative styles. He did it conversationally, as if merely sharing an interest in the details of footwear, and with subtle attentiveness to what I liked.
Mr. Jones exhausted the clearance rack and moved on to standard styles without alarming me. When at last I settled on a pair of McGregors, I inquired about the price. Please keep in mind, three hundred dollars is a lot to spend on a pair of shoes; it is quintuple what I am normally comfortable spending. Mr Jone’s took my concerns seriously, and explained conversationally what three hundred dollars can purchase at Allen Edmonds: hand-made, made in America, first quality materials and construction techniques.
In every industry this is the standard sales pitch in the face of misgivings about price. I knew it was coming and I recognized the pitch when it came. Even so, Mr Jones did not use the pitch to dismiss my concerns. He explained the connection between the construction details, and the options to have them re-crafted when aged and worn out. Mr Jones’ sympathy never stated, but merely implied that my need for less expensive shoes was the perfect reason to purchase a three hundred dollar pair Allen Edmunds shoes.
Mr. Jones ordered felt shoe bags for me when he rang up my shoes, a tacit assurance that I shall be wearing these shoes for many years.

Phenominal Service in Charlotte, NC.
I have been an AE customer for 15yrs. I have always had narrow feet; currently size 14B. I first became aware of AE shoes when I moved to Massachusetts for a job promotion. During a visit to Boston, while walking along State St., I saw all of these beautiful men shoes in a window. Thought to myself, there is no way that any of these shoes would fit my "unique feet". I walked in asked the salesperson do they carry narrow width, and I found several pairs that fit; that day, I bought 3 pairs of shoes.
Fast forward, I currently live in South Carolina and have had some challenges finding shoes (or good AE authorized outlet(s)). A year ago, I found out that AE had opened a store in Charlotte, NC.; my wife and I frequently visit the city for shopping and other entertaining pleasures. Last week, I decided to stop by the store at Phillips Place. I was greeted by the General Manager, Heron H. Laing. What I can tell you from this point on was; I had the absolute best shoe buying experience ever. I have always received great service from the salespeople at AE, but this gentlemen brought service to a new level. My wife and I spent almost two hours in the store. Heron and I got to know a lot about each other. Heron was very interested in my likes and dislikes in clothing and footwear( colors, styles, patterns etc.), my hobbies etc. His extensive knowledge in clothing and AE shoes was phenomenal; he wanted to know what was in my closet so that he could complement my clothing with a great pair(s) of AE shoes. That day, I purchased a pair of Voyager ( in blue). However, with the ideas that Heron had given me, I could have purchased entire the store. However, what's really great is; I now have a good friend, who happens to sell excellent footwear.
So, if you are ever in Charlotte, NC., stop by the store and "visit" with Heron H. Laing, or any of the other sales associates; you will be glad you did!

Another awesome customer service experience
Posting this after my second visit to the outlet store in Freeport, Maine. Another excellent experience. Was greeted by Ben, who was above and beyond the best sales associate I have ever dealt with, bar none. He was super-enthusiastic about the brand, clearly a longtime fan himself, and had a really good in-depth knowledge about styles and lasts. He ordered in a TON of styles for me to try and had no problem bringing out anything and everything I asked for, not getting frustrated or impatient with me at any time (and believe me, I was there for a LONG time). My partial goal was to finally get to try the remaining lasts with which I wasn't familiar and I think I managed to try close to all of them by the end of my visit. I measure a 7.5D on the brannock - Ben suggested an 8.5-9 B to account for a high instep & heel to ball measurement and while the 8.5 B did fit well, I was a little nervous about making such a drastic switch in size - I'm sure he was right and this would have in the long-run worked better for me, but couldn't do it just yet. Anyway, either 7.5D or 8.5B is a tough size that the retail stores don't readily stock. While I was there, I tried the following - Patriot 7D, Grayson 7D, Manchester 7E, Steen 7D, Ventura Highway 7D, Maxfield 7.5D, Players 7D, Kiowa 7D, McGraw 7D, Rush Street 7D, Bellerive 7D, Larchmont 7D, San Marco 7D and Presidio 7D. Wound up picking up three pairs - Rush Street, Player and Grayson and sort of more importantly, discovering two things - the 222 last was the best for me, and the Patriot last was the loafer-last for me. Really happy to get the opportunity to try on everything to see what worked and what didn't work without having to feel stressed out about making the retail stores bring in lots of styles in obscure sizes that they normally wouldn't stock. This will not be my last visit to the Freeport outlet. With sales associates like Ben, it is no wonder that I'm an AE customer for life. Last review I posted I think I had either 4 or 5 pairs - am now up to 13, and hope to reach 20 before too long.

Quality unsurpassed
I have been buying Allen Edmond shoes for over forty years and am continually amazed at the quality of the leather and the finishing work of the shoes. My shoes look almost as new on year 5, 7, and 9 as when I purchased them. Thanks for the continued emphasis on quality that endures.
