Wilbert Comfort Shoe is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 470.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The BEST pair of shoes I've ever owned!! I own 6 pairs of Allen Edmonds shoes. They all fit extremely well but the Wilbert stands out as the very best. Super comfortable even when I was in Rome, walking for miles on those cobblestone streets. The fit is superb. My only wish is that they made the Wilbert in a black as well. David San Gabriel, CA

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice shoes Nice pair of shoes. Took a little longer to break in than I expected, but very comfortable. Weren't really as brown as expected either, but ok as I polish with mahogany with really good results.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from More poor quality from Allen Edmonds I own four pairs of A&E shoes, and the quality control just gets worse and worse. The Wilbert is the last I will buy. As with all A&E shoes ordered on line, you have to get out your nail scissors and remove the tufts of thread that hang off the outside and protrude into the inside of the shoe. Then you notice, esp. in the Wilbert, that the seam running down the center of the toe is not in the actual center, and that on the left shoe it runs to the left by about 1/4". The shoes don't match in other areas either -- perhaps the clipping is done poorly and then those who stitch have to compensate? The McTavish I have fit perfectly. The Wilbert, in the same size and width, seem to be about 1/2 size smaller, and there is no warning about this on the A&E site. Because many of the reviews say they run true to size, I must assume it is just more poor quality control It's pointless to try and check the information on the lasts, which is incomplete, inaccurate and not easily searchable. In Canada, these shoes run over $500. For that money, I have bought English shoes with an equal amount of handcrafting and _no_ quality control problems. For less than $200 CAD, I have bought Johnston and Murphy which are much more comfortable than the Wilbert. It is a shame to see one of the last North American shoemakers decline to this extent.

I had a pair of these with lighter, contrasting stitching and loved 'em. I see you offer sole options now, what about stitching?

    dark brown chromexel?

is the dark brown the same horween chromexel leather as the brown Higgins Mill?
    Asked by: Anonymous
That's a really good question. My sense is that only the Higgins Mill Boot (7562) has the chromexcel leather. I think the Wilberts are made from Outland leather. What's the difference? Here's an old question and Customer Service response from approximately April 2014. Taken from the Q & A listing under Wilbert....... Question: "What is the difference between chromexel and outland leathers? I have had several pairs of Wilberts, but I do not know which kind of leather I got. What are the differences? I have found that after using leather lotion and buffing, I put a light tan polish on the shoes for a very nice looking finish." Answer: "While Chromexcel leather and Outland leather are very similar, they are sourced from different tanneries and so the tanning process and finish are different. Chromexcel leather is characterized by its rich pull-up quality and oily effect, whereas Outland leather tends to have a slight waxy finish. Beyond that, they are both very similar in appearance. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions. Allen Edmonds Customer Service 4 years, 7 months ago"

Would you wear the Wilbert with summer grey or beige dress trousers.

I own a pair of Wilbert's and mostly wear them with jeans. I tend to be a little more casual than the average Allen Edmonds customer because for me, my everyday shoe would be my Oboz hikers, or Teva's (I'm retired). To me this is a dress up jean shoe. However, they are a terrific shoe, and in a couple of weeks I'm going to a wedding (outdoor one). I'll be wearing a blue blazer, button down with tie, and summer grey dress trousers, and also pair the blazer with a khaki color summer dress trouser as well. Will this shoe work with both? Also, what belt do you recommend to go with the Wilbert. BTW, these replaced a pair of Cody's that I had and loved for years.
    Asked by: David
I would wear them with khaki trousers but I don’t think I would wear them with the gray. For classic blue with gray pants you want black shoes. I would suggest my fav dressy AE s the 5th Avenue.

what kind of polish for the black Wilbert or what kind of oil ?

Care of the Wilbert's polish or oil ? I have the lighter shoe. Do you advise saddle soar to clean the shoe before reapplying either oil or polish?
    Asked by: Donald
A neutral creme polish is probably best.

I am a size 12 B in Red Wing. Size 13 in some other shoes. What size would you reccomend in your shoe? I wonder if I had a 12.5 made?

    Asked by: bob
I normally wear 12B in other AE shoes. The Wilbert is true to size; I suggest 12B.

How do you lace them like in the display photo?

I like the lace very much. I wish they could be purchased but I did not see them and got black ones for replacement when the originals wear out.
