Caen Cap Toe Suede Boot is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 44.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bad tongue design ruins the otherwise nice boots I was excited to receive the Caen boots in black today. However, the excitement did not last long. First off, a pungent chemical smell (maybe glue?) came out the shoe box once open. It is from the suede upper, while the sole still smells normal. The suede is soft and sturdy. Welt is clean and the outsole is perfect for the fall/winter. The main problem however is the design of the tongue. There is an extra piece of suede sown on top of the tongue, presumably to strengthen the soft suede. The stitches are very intrusive and press against the top of my feet, especially my left foot, which is half size larger than my right. Although the boots fit very well for both feet, thanks to the generous toe box, the pressure on my left foot is unbearable even without lacing up. Keep in mind I am wearing a pair of thick socks, so sizing up may relieve the pressure, the boots may well be too big if I do that. Well, I have to return them now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Boot Well Done I own the Normandy boot in colors black and brown, and desired a different cap toe boot to round out the collection. The taupe (looks grey to me) is a fantastic color. The Caen boot is lightweight in comparison to the Normandy boot but equally comfortable. I love the translucent sole. Regarding sizing, I'm a 13 B in all my other AE shoes, but a 12 D in the Normandy. I was very fortunate to acquire the last Factory Seconds Caen 12 D during the Cyber Monday sale. Although a Factory Second I can't find anything wrong with the boot. I am very happy with this purchase and am looking forward to acquiring the new Ranger boot. Well done AE.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tight fit This boot is hard to get on and fits very tightly across the top of the foot. And footbed is not very comfortable but no room for a comfortable insert.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My firt pair of AE Boots Bar none, the comfiest boot you will ever lace up. No break in time needed at all. I've had leather boots from other brands that rub the areas above my ankles raw. Not with these suede boots, Soft and smooth as can be. I wear a 13D and these fit true to size. Toe box is roomy but not too big. The mid section fit of the boot holds the foot in place and just feels great. I bought the last pair of acorn brown in my size and I can honestly say they look better in person than the pictures provided on the website. I was so pleased with the caen suede boot that I immediately ordered another pair in Taupe grey. Was I in the market for a taupe grey boot? nope, but I HAD to have another pair of these just because. That how awesome they are.

Can the insole be removed and replaced with an orthotic?

I have AE shoes with removable inserts (Benton (PLS BRING THEM BACK!), LGA OXFORD) and those that have fixed insoles. My question is: can the insole of the Caen Cap Toe ( or any AE boot) be removed to accomodate an orthotic insert?
    Asked by: Ronald
Just checked mine and was unable to remove the insole. (By hand.)

Should the Caen be laced and tied like the Normandy?

    Asked by: NJ Gramps
Just checked mine. It is possible. Laces they came with are long enough. Looks good too. Should they? Up to you. Good to know it’s an option.

    Sizing for boots. size down?

I normally wear size 9 shoes from allen edmonds but saw a review where one person had to size a whole size down for boots. So should i be safe and go for 8 1/2? or they true to fit?
    Asked by: Pat
From my experience, all of my Allen Edmonds have fit true to size. I have Higgin's Mill boots, McTavish, and Strandmok. However, If you order first quality boots, you can return them at no cost for a different size. If you order from the Shoe Bank, you can still return them for a different size, but there is a $10 re stocking fee

    Weather?

How will this reversed kudu hold up in rainy weather and puddles? And will salt be a problem for it? I don't necessarily mean all day, but 10-15 minutes of a moderate rain and some unavoidable puddles.
    Asked by: Anonymous
I have a pair of kudu reverse suede chelsea boots from Rider Boot Co for over a year. They are fairly tough against the rain, especially when you are diligent with spraying some protectors. My concern would be the welt, whether it is sufficiently water-resistant so you will not experience a leak when stepping into a puddle.
