Great field protection in the Summer through early fall.
This jacket is great to protect your skin and the garments under it from the pokes, scrapes and scratches that come from being in the field. It's made from lightweight rip-stop fabric. The lightweight fabric means this is usable in the hottest of summer through early fall.
Adventurous types and people who work outddors will appreciate the jacket and its features. The pockets are big and easy to access.
It loses one star because it's valuable but not a perfect value. So close though, but I need to be honest.
If you're looking for fashion or something to keep you warm, this isn't for you.
The premium price comes from the fabric used and being made in the USA. Both are well worth it.

Best All Around Jacket
Purchased this jacket on sale at Southlake, TX. This is my second item from Cockpit USA. It is light weight and durable for the Texas weather. The buttons along with the nylon material and stitching are of high quality. The jackets fits well with the very nice interior lining that does not snag. This is the best high quality jacket for all around purpose that I own.

Not worth anywhere close to the listed retail price.
This Cockpit USA jacket is a great jacket, though it’s extremely thin and lightweight. If it weren’t made of rip-stop material I’d say it was flimsy. It retails here for $625, though everything similar to it on the Cockpit USA website goes for about half that. I got it here on sale with an extra discount for a total of about a third the retail price and it still feels like that was a bit too much. But it was delivered very quickly and I wanted a really lightweight, water repellent (it is not waterproof) jacket to stuff in my saddlebags and take on motorcycle rides, and it’s perfect for that. But you can get a very nice leather jacket for the list price of this thin nylon jacket. Luckily I already have plenty of those.

actually waterproof
These guys never have bad products. I was taken aback by how lightweight it was. But I'm glad I kept it. I got completely hosed in the rain when a car hit a puddle right in front of me. It kept me completely dry. I couldn't have done any better with a fisherman's jacket.

Regarding 'liner' of Field Jacket; is it "removeable" either zip or button?
I'm interested in Field Jacket and desire knowing whether the "liner" is detachable; either by unzipping or unbuttoning?
There is no liner — nothing even close to a liner. It seems to be made of just one thin layer of ripstop fabric that is solid olive green on the outside and green camouflage print in the inside. This is not what most would consider a “field jacket”, like the M65. This is an extremely thin and lightweight outer covering. It is more like a fitted pocket poncho with sleeves than it is a field jacket. I mean, this is VERY lightweight, get it? Hopefully it does a good job blocking the wind because it has absolutely no insulation at all. The price is about four times too high for what you get, though it is very good looking.
