Tate Chukka Boot is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 53.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from These look cheaply made I love all of the Allen Edmonds shoes that I have and owned over the years, I buy 8-10 pairs a year from them. I ordered these and with the new vegetable dyes...not a good look or color...I ordered brown but these are almost black! I had to walk into the sun to see the brown color...Not happy with the color or the quality...these are very light with a cheap feel to them...Will look at other styles in the future but not these!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Quality of leather disappointing. I’ve worn the brand for 50 years. Very poor quality leather. Tongue not even leather lined. Stiff when I tried them on, so I returned my purchase. I’ve worn the brand for almost 50 years as I wear size 11 B.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice, light weight boot First of all, if you are looking for a heavy, bench welted boot, then this boot is not for you. If you are looking for a comfortable, versatile boot, the Tate Chukka might be for you. First off, the leather is a little thinner than on some of my American made Allen Edmonds, so I think it is corrected grain. But after conditioning and polishing it looks great. It is quite comfortable and reasonably good support for such a soft sole. So while it fits like a high top sneaker, even after wearing it for 12 hours, my feet still feel reasonably supported. I hope after it is fully broken in, the support remains. As for sizing, I bought them in 8 1/2 EEE and it fit. In some AE shoes, I need a 9 EEE. So they run a little large. As far as looks go, it is a sleek boot, that looks great with black or grey dress pants, or maybe dressed down with some chinos or corduroys if you want to go that route. With jeans, I would probably go more with my Higgins Mill or Normandy boots, but if you don't own multiple boots, it should work OK with jeans. So the final verdict is a solid 4. Especially for what I paid for them, No, the leather is not as nice as my Daltons, or my Higgins Mills, but I paid a lot more for those boots. I don't expect the soft sole on the Tate Chukka to last that long. But I wear my shoes in a rotation, so that probably means, 2 to 3 years, after which I will resole with something like a Vibram sole. I actually like these enough that I am considering getting another pair at the clearance price and putting away in my closet for a year or so.

    Explain the width chart

    Asked by: Mickeymouse
Thank you for your inquiry! Part of what makes Allen Edmonds shoes so unique is the extensive range of sizes and widths we offer that make achieving a perfect fit much simpler. Each half size increases by approximately one-sixth of an inch and each full size increases by one-third of an inch. The widths of Allen Edmonds shoes range from 4A, the narrowest width, to EEE, the widest width, with a D width considered medium. Technically speaking, each width increases by approximately three-sixteenths of an inch in total girth. -AE Consumer Care Dept.

I wear EEE 12 and the fit is good if you do not have high instep. If you do it may be tight need to break it in.

    Squeaking?

Read that some people have squeaking... love the fit, but my socks seem to rub the boot and make it squeak — even if I just wiggle my toes!!! Will the squeaking go away, or is there a conditioner that can be put on the inner leather liner to mke the squeaking stop? Many thanks for advice or suggestions,
    Asked by: Mike K-man
Thank you for your question. Squeaking sometimes occurs on shoes because Allen Edmonds uses authentic leathers such as calf skin.  When two pieces of new leather rub against each other, such as the leather lining, upper leather and /or tongue leathers, a slight squeaking may occur.  The fix is usually quite simple; general wear will eliminate the noise or you can apply leather lotion as a lubricant. You may also apply leather lition inside the shoes.  Lotion can be found at AllenEdmonds.com, most shoe shine stands or simply visit an Allen Edmonds store and have a store associate apply the lotion for you.   Importantly, if you have any further concerns or needs please contact our online customer service team directly at 877-817-7615.

    Break in

The boot tongue is thick at the bottom (an extra layer of leather is added to match the boot's interior) and thin at the top (just the outer layer of leather). I have high arches and the borderline in the shoe tongue makes the boots very uncomfortable to wear. Would it break in or it's just not my model?
    Asked by: Akkie
No, will not break in in my experience. Would recommend against the Tate. Not a well-designed shoe.
