    Care Instructions

Cordovan leather requires different care than calfskin due to its unique properties. Brush and wipe regularly and apply cream occasionally to protect the leather and maintain its rich color.

    Regular Maintenance:

Regularly, brush the leather with our Horsehair Shine Brush or wipe with our Cotton Flannel Polishing Cloth.

To Protect and Restore Color, Follow These Steps:

STEP 1: Wipe your shoe down with a damp cloth and allow to dry.

STEP 2: Using your Horsehair Dauber, apply a small amount of Cordovan cream in a circular motion.

STEP 3: While the cream is still slightly wet, take our Horsehair Shine Brush and brush back and forth, heating the cream and leather. This allows the natural oils to move to the surface to bring out the leather's natural shine.

STEP 4: Next, use the soft side of our Cotton Flannel Polishing Cloth to buff the shoe until the surface is no longer tacky. Often, some excess cream will transfer onto the cloth, which is normal.

STEP 5: Take our Heel Dressing applicator and press against the edge of the heel and sole.

    Classic Fit

Most people consider a “classic” fit to be a “standard” fit. This fit more closely aligns with the natural shape of your feet.

Strand Shell Cordovan Cap-Toe Oxford is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 945.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great business and casual shoe This is my second pair of EA shoes I bought. Like the Fifth Avenue I bought them in NY, but these in Walnut. As the Fifth Avenues, they are perfect to wear, look stunning and are extremely comfortable. I most of the time wear them with blue Jeans and they are my go to shoes when I am not 100% sure if I should go formal or casual.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Two different shoes First time purchase of AE. I am a big fan of cordovan and many pairs bought from English makers. I am British and live in the UK. Purchasing shoes was straightforward and certainly shipping was very smooth. The shoes per se are very nice in style , construction etc. However, it is clear that the two shoes sent to me are completely different colours ! One is the dark brown advertised - but the other is a reddish colour - not in patches which is expected from cordovan but uniformly red and quite obvious. I thought for one moment that I had been sent one shoe in chili but the colour reference is the same on both shoes. Remarkable absence of quality control really . Of course the hassle of sending the shoes back is too much to contemplate and I guess I will need to try and get a shoemaker here to try and darken the red shoe - but I would be surprised if that were possible. With taxes I paid well over $1,000 for the shoes - this is the cost of buying shoes from the US by mail. Never again !

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sizing off 10.5 E fits more like a 12 or larger Hi, Full disclosure, I special ordered a pair of Walnut Strands with combination sole from a store in a nearby city here in Canada. Was far cheaper than ordering directly from AE and ship to Canada. I saved around $250 Can not ordering directly from AE. I was excited to receive them. They are gorgeous shoes and the quality of the work was very good. But then I tried them on. They are huge. I used AE's online tool to find the best size and it said 10.5, hey my size, perfect. I thought an insole would help a bit. No, it exaggerated the length but now the heel and midsole area fit exceptionally well. The size on the box reads 10.5 E and the tongue on the shoe reads the same. The vast majority of my shoes for the past quarter century have been 10.5, with the occasional 10 or 11, once there was a 13 (Puma sneaker, go figure). On a Brannock device I'm a 10.5 E (actually between and E and D). I measured a shoe, out sole, toe to heel is just over 12.5 inches and internally just over 12 inches. This is quite larger than my other 10.5 shoes. I'd really like to order more AE shoes but now I really do not know my size in AE shoes. The nearest AE store is in Seattle and that is at least 2 hour drive south of Vancouver, BC. Great shoes but sizing (at least for these Walnut Strands) is way off.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but somewhat concerning i own 4 pairs of strands. just got the brown because my old bourbons were stolen when someone swiped my luggage ! I had to return unfortunately because the stitching on the side was wearing off. disappointed because i waited 3 weeks for the custom sizing. just got the replacement and all is well. i do have concerns on quality control now whereas that was not the case years ago. still make a good product but for 400 bucks, they should be checking these shoes over 3x before sending out.

I don't expect you'll do anything, but have had something that bugged me since bought a black pair of strands a little under three years ago.

I have loved the fit and the wear, but. I never cared for fact that their is a gap between the "subsole" and the leathelearned.Your picures make that part of the sole seem very smoothe. The gap has always been there and not gotten any worse. It just bugs me because I would like consider a pair of loafers but think that your product pictures don't match what you get. I bought these on $50.00 off sale from this site. Do you guys sell seconds on sale? I wish now that I would have sent them back forr another, but lesson learned.

Which belt do you recommend for the Strands in Cigar?

    Asked by: Russell
The best belt in my opinion is the Manistee Belt in Dark Chili. Dark Chili closely matches the Cigar Strand, and the brogue patterns are similar between the belt and the shoe.

Can the rubber sole be replaced If or when it wears down?

It looks like it is stitch on together with the leather sole. How long will it last?
    Asked by: JKM

I have full orthotics. Can I remove inner soles and replace them with my custom orthotics? Are the shoes deep enough to then be comfortable?

    Asked by: ss
The insoles of the Strands are not removable. We would recommend taking your orthotics to your nearest store to try them out on a pair of Strands.

How is the durability of the combination tap sole relative to leather? Longer wearing, I assume?

    Asked by: cab
I have the Mcallister Wing Tips with the combination tap sole. It is by far my favorite sole of all my AE’s. It’s extremely durable but more flexible than the leather soles. I believe the break in period was shorter compared to the traditional leather sole, I wore (and still wear) the shoes more often than any other AE’s I own. I got at least 2.5 - 3 years of solid use before I sent them to be re crafted and truthfully, I sent them in way too early. The soles had plenty of tread left. Let me put the 2.5 - 3 years of use into perspective... I am in outside sales. I walk on various surfaces ALL DAY LONG. Hot pavement, asphalt, carpet, tile, in the rain and blazing Alabama heat as well as climate controlled areas. They hold up so well that I will have them put on the Carbon Strands I am getting ready to order.

    What polish for cigar?

What color polish is recommended for cigar?
    Asked by: Whitebeard
I would recommend neutral polish for Cigar and Coffee colored-shoes. I accidentally turned my Coffee McAllisters into Dark Chili McAllisters by using standard “brown” polish. I wouldn’t want to risk the unique look of the Cigar color by mixing it with off-color polishes: it is best to just use neutral.
