    Care Instructions

Cordovan leather requires different care than calfskin due to its unique properties. Brush and wipe regularly and apply cream occasionally to protect the leather and maintain its rich color.

    Regular Maintenance:

Regularly, brush the leather with our Horsehair Shine Brush or wipe with our Cotton Flannel Polishing Cloth.

To Protect and Restore Color, Follow These Steps:

STEP 1: Wipe your shoe down with a damp cloth and allow to dry.

STEP 2: Using your Horsehair Dauber, apply a small amount of Cordovan cream in a circular motion.

STEP 3: While the cream is still slightly wet, take our Horsehair Shine Brush and brush back and forth, heating the cream and leather. This allows the natural oils to move to the surface to bring out the leather's natural shine.

STEP 4: Next, use the soft side of our Cotton Flannel Polishing Cloth to buff the shoe until the surface is no longer tacky. Often, some excess cream will transfer onto the cloth, which is normal.

STEP 5: Take our Heel Dressing applicator and press against the edge of the heel and sole.

    Classic Fit

Most people consider a “classic” fit to be a “standard” fit. This fit more closely aligns with the natural shape of your feet.

Patriot Cordovan Loafer is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 132.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Caved in and bought the cordovan — and I am delighted The Patriot was my favorite loafer — my favorite shoe, really — when they were still made of ordinary leather, and then Allen Edmonds stopped making them except in cordovan and for quite a price. I held out for years and then, at he beginning of the current sale, I caved in and spent the money on a new pair. They arrived today. There’s nothing like putting on a new pair of shoes that fit exactly right from the first instant, as these do. And they’re beautifully made and look great. I couldn’t be happier.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst quality ever I have a lots of AE shoes and I used to be a loyal customer. The quality of this company is now not even close to what it used to be. Unless you're happy paying $600 for a 2nd... I had to send these Patriots back 4 times!!! Each time the shoes had some pretty obvious flaws. Customer service takes them back and send a new pair, which just have a different defect. The 5th pair is OK, even though the cordovan have some dark spots on the left shoe and the toe box has irregular shape compared to the right shoe. I guess I could keep thrm, but I think it's going back anyway. In the meantime, I visited the Alden store and checked out their LHS and they're just perfect. Too bad AE can't keep up.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from NOT THE RIGHT SIZE I wear 10 1/2 D size shoes, and what I got was probably a 10 . Totally unsatisfactory

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good option for narrow feet I picked up a pair of seconds on sale and am very happy. There Is a minor stitching issue with the strap on one of the shoes but nothing significant. I typically wear a 12B and find the 511 last to be the best fit. I tried a 12B in the Patriot and found it painful with the strap on the right shoe digging in to the top of my foot. I then went down a half size in length but went with a D width and the fit is great. I have struggled to find loafers that fit right in the past and am very happy with the Patriots.

    Additional styles?

Are there any plans to introduce a shell Lake Forest? The Lake Forest is sort of a modernized update to the Patriot; sleeker looking and more polished. Plus I feel as though the Lake Forest, whose fit is a lot "easier" and more forgiving, would generate a much larger audience. I understand that the Patriot was sort of a "classic" and a favorite of Paul, but sometimes it is better to change and adapt. The Randolph I feel works for a lot of people, not for others. It runs wider than most shoes but also very flat. The Patriot for a much smaller group; narrow in the heel but also very low vamp. I feel like the Lake Forest would encompass virtually everyone with the marriage of a narrow heel, raised vamp and sufficiently roomy toebox.

Is the Patriot roomy enough for someone with a bunion?

I usually wear size 9.5 EEE in AE shoes, the extra width required in part by a bunion just below my big toe on my R foot. I'm wondering if the Patriot is roomy enough in the toe box/forefoot to comfortably accommodate my condition. Some of the reviews suggest the fit might be too restrictive. Thanks!
    Asked by: Bulldog
I wear a 9.5 D and it is like this shoe was custom made for me. I do think that the fit is narrow in the ankle, as it should be, for me at any rate. I have a pair in suede and the fit was so perfect for me that I bought a pair in shell cordovan. I have never been able to wear loafer comfortably until I tried these. Most loafers are not snug enough in the ankle and flop off of my feet. I hope this helps you.

    Polish color for Brown

This is the first pair of AE I will be polishing myself and want to get a good color match. The shoe description is "brown burnished calf" and the polish colors I think might match are "Dark Brown", "Bourbon", or "Walnut". Which is the best fit?
    Asked by: NWiggers
Thank you for your inquiry. We recommend using the Dark Brown Premium Shoe Polish for your Patriot Penny Loafers in Brown Burnished Calf. Prior to polishing, we do recommend using our Conditioner Cleaner to prepare the leather for polishing. Apply it with a soft cotton cloth in small amounts at a time and in circular motions, then apply the polish and buff or brush to a desired shine. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

What is the difference between the Patriot Cordovan Loafer & the Partiot Penny Loafer?

    Asked by: Anonymous
It is the leather. Shell Cordovan Leather is the highest quality leather one can buy. Horween make this leather in Chicago from horse hides and it is the only manufacturer of this leather. It takes one horse to make a pair of shoes. The name derives from the city of Cordoba, Spain where this leather originated.

Please compare the fit of the Patriot with fit of the Presidio and the Cole.

    Asked by: Mike4717
The Patriot is constructed on the 606 last which has a broad, flat toe providing a roomier forepart. The instep transition and cone rise is farther back than a typical Allen Edmonds last. The Presidio was constructed on the 222 last which has an elongated toe with a slightly higher instep and a more narrow fit in the forefoot creating a sleek silhouette and rounded European look. The Cole was constructed on the discontinued 456 last which had a very wide rounded toe. By selecting shoes manufactured on the last that most resembles the contours of your feet, you will achieve a superior fit, only enhancing the comfort of your shoes.

    Are the insoles removable?

Are the insoles in this shoe removable or is that only in the orthotic range?
    Asked by: Alvin
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds. The Patriot style was not designed with an orthotic fit in mind and so it does not feature a removable insole. The styles that feature removable insoles are those that are part of the Orthotic Collection and Jack Nicklaus Collection; as well as the Voyager style. Keep in mind, however, that if the shoe is fit large enough, these inserts can be used in almost any of our shoes. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions. How does this shoe fit compared to the old suede Firenze with the bit?

    Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds. The Firenze style is a member of our Italian Collection, which has been known to have a slightly more snug fit. The Patriot style is manufactured on our 6-Last (606) which has a broad flat toe that provides a roomier forepart, however the cone rises back farther back than a typical AE last and may not be the best fit for a higher instep. By selecting shoes manufactured on the last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit, only enhancing the comfort of the shoes. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions. Allen Edmonds Customer Service
