Fifth Avenue Cap-Toe Oxford is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 874.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality shoe. I have had two pair of very expensive bespoke Oxfords made for me in London and have also purchased many top quality shoes made by high-end companies, such as Cheaney in the United Kingdom. In my view, the Fifth Avenue model I purchased from Allen Edmonds is a nicer shoe. I would not say the quality is necessarily better. The quality is about the same. It is the styling that sets them apart. And, the fact that Allen Edmonds provides different widths is a huge determining factor as to why I have purchased three pairs of shoes from them so far. Once you figure out your width size (using Allen Edmonds' chart system), then you will end up with a pair of shoes that feel as comfortable as a pair of bespoke shoes. My first pair of Allen Edmonds were D in terms of width, but they were too tight. My second pair were E, but these also were too narrow. My third pair were/are EE and they fit like a pair of bespoke shoes. I wish the other two pair had been EE. Allen Edmonds shoes are notoriously narrow, but once you figure out your exact width using their chart, you will be set. Don't settle for a pair that are too tight and hope they will stretch. The leather is of such good quality that they will not stretch very much, regarless of what you try to do. Instead, return them and ask for a wider pair until you figure out exactly what is the right width for you and you will be glad you did. This way you will be a lot more comfortable and you won't be deforming the shoes (not to mention your feet) as you try to stretch them. Remember that they tend to be too narrow, but with so many widths available this is, in the end, not a problem. There is absolutely no need to pay thousands of dollars or pounds (like I have) to have a pair of bespoke shoes made when you can get your exact shoe size (length and width) from Allen Edmonds. To be honest, the stitching on my Allen Edmonds is better than that on my bespoke pair of Oxfords made in London. I only have one criticism: Allen Edmonds changed the design of their shoe box. They now have a more modern-looking box. In my view, this change was a mistake. They should have stuck with their former (old school) box. Seeing the new box was hugely disappointing. Less is more, as one would say. There is elegance in simplicity.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful shoe! Worth the purchase! Quality is gorgeous! Leather is stunning and all around the shoe is worth the purchase. If I had to nit-pick about anything, I would say that it would have been nice to get a leather/rubber heal like other models. But love my shoe and look forward to keeping it for years and years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice shoes. I own several pair of Allen Edmonds shoes. Well made quality shoes for a fair price. Easy to polish and care for. The only complaint if you can call it one is they need to add more colors.

I live in and travel to areas that can be awfully wet and thusly slick with this type sole. Are there options to help with that?

I’ve seen tape that some people sell but I don’t want to void a warranty yet out something on the sole to give me more traction. Please offer recommendations. Thank you. Justin

Hello, Thank you for your inquiry! We recommend customizing on your sole. You might want to try a Dainite sole because it will help with traction and weather conditions. You can purchase a different sole for an additional $ 40.00. -AE Consumer Care Dept.

What length replacement laces should I use for 5th Ave?

    Asked by: YS
I recently had to replace the laces in a pair of Park Avenues, and 30 inch laces worked perfectly. Since the Fifth Avenue is so similar (I have a pair of those also) to the Park Avenue, 30 inch laces should work.

What color do you recommend to pair with a navy suit for law firm interviews?

The brown looks extremely dark but the walnut looks too light to be formal. Is the dark chili a good choice for in between? Or does it have a reddish tint?
    Asked by: LAWFIRM
For a Law firm interview, I would probably go with the black. But, I recently purchased the Midnight Blue shade and It would also be fantastic.

is the upper leather soft as the AE Sanford I purchased many years ago?

    Asked by: JC
It is a soft leather, yes. As soft as the what you purchased many years ago is hard to tell for various reasons. However the company does a great job at purchasing leathers that are very consistent year in and year out. The leather on these are soft but not glove leather soft. It is a durable but supple leather that will ultimately gain a amazing patina overtime. Hope this helps.

I used brown and it looks good, I don't know if they have chili but if they do I'm sure it will look fine as well.
