Higgins Mill Boot with Chromexcel Leather is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 143.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great looking boots. They fit true to size and were comfortable right out of the box. I highly recommend these boots and also impressed with the speedy shipment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Boot With Minor Issues Ordered a 7D which is my typical Brannock size, but needed to exchange for a 7.5 as the boots were too tight with thicker boot socks. AE made the process very easy, so A+ for customer service. Quality of second pair of boots was good but slightly less impressive than the first. A few loose stitches and a large, rough scrape (?) near the speed hooks of the right boot. The blemish is on the inside, thankfully, so mostly out of sight. A few little dings near the left toe but these brushed out pretty well. Biggest complaint though is substantial loose grain creasing which appears on one boot and not the other. Curious to see how this will develop over time. Not bad enough to exchange, but wish both boots were identical. With Chromexcel though you never really know what you're going to get. Visually, I don't care for the suede tongue, but with the boots tied you'd have to look very closely to notice the color / textural difference. Also, the suede makes the tongue a bit thinner and more pliable, and therefore more comfortable -- which the boots definitely are! Breaking in easily after only a few days. I mostly wear desert boots and chukkas which hit below the ankle, so the higher fit did take some getting used to. Right ankle is a little sore, but the leather is softening. I found that lacing the boots to the second-to-last speed hooks (rather than all the way) improves the shin / ankle comfort a good deal. Would hesitate buying again at full price but on sale they are a pretty good deal. Remember that Chromexcel leather is a lottery of sorts -- if you need an absolutely pristine dress boot, go for calfskin or shell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great boot once you get a good pair To start, these are great boots. They're comfortable, great looking, and the craftsmanship is very nice....once you find the right pair. Perhaps it was just my experience, but I went through two exchanges before settling on my third pair. As other reviewers have noted, the tongue slid to the side on my first pair and after inspecting them more closely, I found that the quarter had been sewed on slightly crooked on one of the boots, resulting in the eyelets lining up about one off when the boots weren't tied. They came together once tied, but I suspect the misalignment was causing the tongue to slip. Also, there was some fraying in the edge finishing of the leather. Allen Edmonds' customer service was excellent and they shipped a new pair which arrived within two days. This pair however, had a crease across the toe on both boots and again, the quarter was sewn off-center on one boot. I exchanged them again and was happy to find the third pair was sewn correctly. After wearing this pair for two days, I haven't noticed any of the tongue slippage that other reviewers have noted. In summary, this is a great boot. The leather has a soft shine to it and they feel like they will hold up for a long time. They're also very comfortable right out of the box with minimal break-in required. Some issues with quality control, so take a close look at your boots before wearing them. If you notice the tongue sliding to the side, check the alignment of the quarter as I believe that may be the cause (at least in my case).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great boots- 1 flaw Seem to be great quality and the look is sharp. Only issue is that the tongue falls to the side just after minutes of wear. The tongue is a thin piece of leather with no structural support. A bit annoying to straighten out all day. May consider taking them to a cobbler to get a support piece of leather sewn in.

    Pre-Creased shoes

Hello, I purchased a pair of Higgins from an in store retailer. The shoes appear to already have creasing in the Vamp area. The toe area does not look as flat and smooth as it does in the picture on your website. There are a bunch of lines and it looks like the branch of a tree. Is this a normal occurrence in this type of leather, and something that happens with usage? I have never purchased AE shoes so I want to be sure they are not defective with loose grain or inferior quality.

Which speed polish color should I buy?

I know the boot description says brown but when I received these they appear to have reddish tint to them. Should I buy "Chili" instead of brown?
    Asked by: astromoose
I wouldn't use shoe polish on chromexcel leather. I would just clean them and use some shoe cream to condition the leather. I use saphir greasy leather cream because that's what I happened to have, but I'm sure Allen Edmonds sells a similar product that is equivalent

What is the recommended sizing compared to sneakers? Are they true to size or should I order 1/2-full size down?

    Asked by: Chris
The boots run true to size, as do the sneakers. Not sure if i will do business with this company anymore, do to a problem with replacing a pair of deffective shoelaces. Too petty for me.
