    Care Instructions

STEP 1: Using a damp cloth or sponge, lather our Saddle Soap and apply onto leather to clean and restore its natural oils.

STEP 2: Moisturize the shoes with our Cream Polish to make them supple and soft, following instructions on the product.

STEP 3: Condition the shoes with our Speed Polish, protecting them from dirt, rain and snow.

STEP 4: Take our Heel dressing applicator and apply to the edge of the heel and sole.

STEP 5: Apply our Leather Lotion as needed for added protection and polish in between cleanings. Use our Horsehair Shine Brush to buff shoes to a desired shine.

*For camo printed leather, simply rub our Leather Lotion onto print with our Cotton Flannel Polishing Cloth as needed and wipe smudges or dirt away with a damp cloth.

    Relaxed Fit

The relaxed fit has added space in the toe box. This extra room allows for thicker socks and foot expansion that occurs at the end of the day or during a long flight.

Bartlett Cap-Toe Oxford is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 62.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from very comfortable and well built A very nice fitting shoe with good support.A bit narrow across the widest part of the foot, but breaks in nicely after 5-6 hours. A good investment if you have problems with aching calf muscles at night from long days on your feet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bartlett’s Comfortable First Wearing w/ Supple Leather The Bartlett’s look and feels great on the first wearing. This shoe fits me well. The leather is a nice upgrade from the 5th Avenue, Park or Strand uppers and the ultra soft lamb skin lining feels great too. If you’re the person who buys the nicer briefcase due to the hand of the leather; you’ll like the Bartlett’s. The Bartlett is built the 201 Last and fits me well. I have a slightly high instep. I’m usually a 10 D and that size fits me well in these. The toe box is a little wider and slightly longer than the Park or 5th Avenues that are built on the 65 Last. (Which run a little narrow to me). I happen to have the Dk Brown color Bartlett and really like them! That color seems discontinued. The black and walnut colors are nice and classic. I would like to see Bartlett’s in Dk Chili and Oxblood too. Just saying!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bartlette pre-Careles buy out. I had tried on the Bartlett in store and it fit perfectly, I just had to order the color I wanted. They were supposed to come in within a few days so I could wear them to a conference. They did not. Alyssa and Heather ordered a spare to come to their store just incase so that i could have them in time. Brick and Motar customer service is always a 10/10. Both pairs however, fit extremely poorly. About 2 sizes too big. They have plenty of imperfections. Something I would expect from a pair of cheap seconds. Not a $530 shoe. After three attempts from the wonderful ladies in Charlotte, I ended up getting a pair that was in stock at the store. They were just a size bigger than what I normally get. To my surprise they fit perfectly. Not to my surprise, it was a pair from pre-buyout. Had the original coat of arms on the box and sole, and the original inscribing on the inside of the shoe. I'm afraid that Allen Edmonds are not what they used to be If you see a pair with the original logo, be sure to snatch it up. Those ones will last you a decade. How does the 65 last compare to the 201 last ?

My husband only wears Allen Edmonds. He has at least ten pairs and they all seem to be the 65 last.
    Asked by: Dee
I have shoes from both the 65 and 201 Lasts. The 201 is a slightly longer toe box and a little wider in width but has a more chiseled look compared to shoes on the 65 Last (eg Park Ave., 5th Ave., Strand). I have the Bartlett’s built on the 201 Last and they fit me well. I have a slightly high arch. Hope this helps.

How do these shoes hold up against the rain? I know these are not waterproof.

Which shoes from the independence collection hold up pretty good against rain and the elements?
    Asked by: Ramiro
I used mink oil to break them in before the first polishing and while not waterproof, they are holding up well so far. Just fyi, i used the mink oil first then a cream wax and then then 2 coats of a paste wax to protect the shoe

    Differences between Bartlett and Strand?

Please help me understand the differences between the Bartlett and the Strand. I’m specifically interested in any variation in color between the brown versions of each shoe. Also, is the Bartlett a noticeably longer and more narrow shoe? Thank you.
    Asked by: SDA4
To me, Bartlett’s are an upgrade to the Strands in the leather quality upper with the soft lamb skin lining. I haven’t put the same color Bartlett’s next to their Strand cousin. However different leathers do accept dyes differently. So there may be variations in colors. Importantly, there’s two shoes are built on different lasts and fit my feet differently. The Strands are built on the 65 Last and the Bartlett’s on the 201 Last. As you pointed out the toe box on the Bartlett’s are a little longer than the Strands. The Bartlett’s seem to feel great on my first wearing. The 5th Avenues take 4 or 5 wearing to settle in to my feet. I have a slightly high instep. Also the 65 last shoes seem to run a little narrower than the 201 last shoes. Hope this helps.

Will the Bartlett age more gracefully with its higher quality calfskin compared to the Strand?

I prefer the brown tone of the Strand, which is more espresso, than the Bartlett, which is more dark chocolate. However, I know that the leather in the Bartlett is much higher quality. So if the Bartlett will look much better in 2 or 3 years, that will impact my buying decision.
    Asked by: Tim88
Styles may age differently even if using the same type of leather and it is dependent on many different factors, including but not limited to amount of wear, light exposure, level of care and types of care products used, climate and weather, storage conditions, moisture, the area of the hide where each component was cut, tanning batches, etc. Also, leather may lighten or darken overtime due to the nature of the material. We cannot predict how any style will age for each individual as each pair will be unique and acquire its own character overtime. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

Are the soles of the independence collection still "another iron" thicker than soles of AE's main collection (i.e. regular calfskin strands)

The 2011 introduction youtube video for the Independence collection mentions a number of nice details such as: thicker soles, wheeling, softest leather. Are these same upgrades still in place or have they changed a bit over the years? Thank you for being such a wonderful team & company ---proud to wear your excellent American made products.
    Asked by: AEAA350
Thank you for your inquiry. To complement our newest sleeker styles, we've updated the Independence Collection to have a single oak two-tone sole with the wheeling details for a more refined look. The rest is still the same, we still use our premium calfskin and ultra soft lambskin linings. They styles have changed slightly but retain the same quality materials and craftsmanship. We sincerely appreciate your feedback, loyalty, and support. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

The 201 last fits me better than the 65. Does AE plan to make this shoe in oxblood? If not, can I order a pair?

    Asked by: Grant
There are currently no plans to expand the color offering of the Bartlett style. We do not offer custom leather special orders at this time. We suggest taking a look at the Hopkinson or the Jefferson 2.0. These styles are both constructed on the 201 last and they are offered in Merlot which is similar to Oxblood. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

Please help me with color matching the Burnished Brown Bartlett.

    1. What color polish should I use to preserve/attend the handsome finish of this shoe? 2. Which belts do you offer that will most easily match this shoe? Thank you in advance for your assistance! I own: Hopkinson, Merlot Jefferson 2.0, Merlot Bartlett, Burnished Brown Dalton, Mahogany(hand finished)
    Asked by: JK
We recommend using the Dark Brown Premium Shoe Polish when polishing this style. The Manistee belt or the Dupont belt in Brown will coordinate with this style nicely. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

I have mccalistet in 9.5c what su in Bartlett?

    Asked by: Joe
Allen Edmonds shoes are constructed on a wide variety of lasts (foot molds) and each will feature unique fit characteristics. It is difficult to recommend a size through this channel and guarantee a proper fit because each last will fit differently based on the contours of your feet. The McAllister is constructed on the 65 last which is the longest in length of all of our lasts; best for a long, narrow foot. The Bartlett is constructed on the 201 Last which has a higher cone, providing more room for a higher instep and a fuller forefoot width for more comfort. It is vitally important to visit an Allen Edmonds retail store or retail partner for a professional fitting to increase your chances of being fit correctly for each last and style. However, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoes in returnable condition.
