    Relaxed Fit

The relaxed fit has added space in the toe box. This extra room allows for thicker socks and foot expansion that occurs at the end of the day or during a long flight.

Acheson Tassel Dress Loafer is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 29.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from FIVE STARS FOR THE ACHESON I recently bought the Acheson in walnut and it has quickly become one of my favorites. LOOK & FEEL: Very clean profile. Streamlined but not trendy. Thankfully not as shiny as the photos suggest. Comfortable. Resists severe creasing well in my experience. When properly sized the vamp will fit low on your foot, crossing the forefoot and applying stabilization further toward the ball of your foot than, for example, the Grayson. FIT: Length true to size. Length runs more or less on par with the 79 (Randolph) and the 97 (Grayson). Width feels slightly narrow due to low vamp and forefoot construction, but I experience on this point may differ a bit more than normal depending on your foot. I sized up in width. The Acheson holds my foot in place, like the Randolph but with a bit more volume. Your results may vary re: width. A lot of people say the 2042 last has a normal to narrow taper at the heel. But I have very narrow heels and while sizing up in width was a great fit in my forefoot, I had heel slip. I’m used to this across all brands, especially in loafers, and in this case a heel pad solved my issue very well. If you have problems fitting loafers and/or don’t like heel pads, I’d especially recommend trying before buying or at least wearing the Acheson first on carpet to make sure you have the right fit. I really like the Acheson. In fact, I started looking for the chili color after only a few wears of my new purchase. But I will not be buying another pair of Achesons, or any other AE shoes, at least for a while. The Fall 2018 rebranding, full of buzz words and talk of a fresh story to tell, AE makes clear that the company is trying to attract a new and younger audience. And while attracting new customers is the lifeblood of business, AE has in my opinion elected to go about it at the expense of its existing customers. I want new customers to experience the AE shoes that made the company great - because I’m sure that once they do, they’ll be AE lifers. But many of the shoes being promoted in the rebranding are made entirely off-shore and/or are not representative of the quality upon which AE has built its reputation. In my experience the decline in attention to detail is slowly spreading throughout the brand. I hope this changes. AE employs world-class shoemakers, craftsmen. But telling them what shoes to make is a decision handed down from the top. I’ve purchased a double-digit number of AE shoes this year. The Caleres CEO recently said Allen Edmonds had to seek new customers; it couldn’t “be relying on the same customers that [it has].” For my part, she will not need to rely on me. As I hope is clear in my review, I’m not urging anyone else to stop buying AE shoes or making an angry threat aimed at triggering some customer service response. It’s just my decision; I’m not asking others to agree or disagree, and in fact I hope this proves to be a short-lived hiatus. But some things just need to be said. Allen Edmonds may well right the course after what I see as a clumsy start to its rebranding campaign. It has before, and I hope it does again. If so, I’ll gladly return to the fold, if AE will have me, as a happy and regular customer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Different style I really like Grayson loafers; took a chance on Acheson thinking it might appear a bit more casual. First pair [8D] = too tight so returned for larger [8E]. Fit better, but still not comfortable: toe box just looked too wide.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Rather poor quality Style is great but quality of leather and lack of sheen made the shoe look cheap. Not like a pair of expensive shoes. Maddie 55

Is this shoe made in a C width or only the B D E EEE I see on the website?

    Asked by: Justin
Styles are limited to the sizes/widths shown online. We recommend taking a look at the Grayson tassel loafer as that style is offered in a C width. Feel free to contact us again if you have additional questions!

This shoe looks more like the old Footjoy tassel of years ago. I wear a true 12.5 AA or 13 AAA. Does the 2042 last come in either of these sizes?

This pattern seems to have a shorter vamp and heavier Krohn seam than the Grayson also, which I prefer. Am I wrong? Thanks.

The Addison tassel loafer is limited to the sizes and widths offered online. This style is constructed on the 2042 Last, whith raised moc stiching on the vamp and foxing (heel), and a wheeling detail along the welt. The 2042 is a sleeker, more fashion-forward look than our classic slip-ons. This last has a soft rounded toe, full forepart and tapered back section to promote an enhanced fit for our slip-on styles. The Grayson is constructed on the 97 last which is the best fit for the average foot. The 97 last is one of Allen Edmonds early lasts, and has a soft, slightly pointed toe. It lays flatter in the toe area for a classic American look. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

    Do you guys restock?

I've really been wanting to buy this shoe in 6.5 D but every time I come to check there is no D and every shoe I like from AE never has D. Will or do you guys ever restock? Just wondering, thanks in advance.
    Asked by: Mike
Thank you for your inquiry. Most of our styles made in a size 6.5 are made in an E width. Please call 800-235-2348 to discuss availability of 6.5D shoes.

Does the Acheson fit true to Brannock size?

I like the look of the Acheson more than the Grayson, but I'm concerned about fit. Does the Acheson run true to Brannock size (like the Grayson) or is it longer, like AE's 65-last shoes? I would go in for a fitting, but the brick-and-mortar AE stores never carry my size (6.5E or 6EEE, depending).
    Asked by: Bob
It is difficult to recommend a size through this channel and guarantee a proper fit because each style can fit differently based on the contours of your feet. Typically, we recommend trying the same size you usually wear in the same type of style and exchange if necessary based on how comfortable you feel in the shoes. All of our shoes are the same length from the heel to the ball of the foot when comparing the same size. It is vitally important to visit an Allen Edmonds retail store or retail partner for a professional fitting to increase your chances of being fit correctly for each last and style. However, keep in mind that products purchased on AllenEdmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoes in returnable condition.

What is the difference in the Acheson and the Grayson models

    Asked by: JRC6875
The difference is in the last. Also the Acheson has a foxtail treatment on the heel/Back quarter of the shoe. My suggestion is to try them on to see which you prefer.

    A little confused...

I finally got to see this shoe in person and I guess I'm a little puzzled with its introduction. I almost couldn't tell it apart from the Grayson until I literally held them in my hands side-by-side. The Grayson is built on the 97-last - I feel like the 97 is probably going to work for the large majority of people; they may need to adjust the length and width to get a good fit but overall I think it would work. The 2042 is a much more specific type of fit that I bet probably would not work for the majority of people. On top of that, the Grayson just looked more dressy/sleek due to the tapered toe. I'm rambling, but I just don't get it.

It’s not uncommon for Allen Edmonds to offer similar styles that are made on different lasts. This allows us to accommodate most foot shapes and sizes. For example, the MacNeil and the McGregor are both long-wingtip styles, but the MacNeil is made on the 97 last and the McGregor is made on the 65 last. The 97 last is the best fit for the average foot, but most customers prefer the long and narrow look of the 65 last. For this reason, we continue to offer styles in lasts that have an elongated and sleek look. The 2042 last complements the 65 last which is our most popular last. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

Is the Acheson meant to compliment the Grayson similar to the La Salle complimenting the Del Ray?

I notice that the Acheson is very similar to the Grayson with a lower vamp and stitching down the heel and rear quarters. Do you plan to keep both shoes in your catalog? I personally love the Graysons and the fact that they are made in a full size run which accommodates my very narrow foot.
    Asked by: Anonymous
They are similar styles, however the Acheson and the Grayson are constructed on different lasts so each loafer has a unique fit. The Acheson is made on the 2042 which is a new slip-on last has a sleeker aesthetic, meaning is it slightly narrower and has a more chiseled look. The Grayson is made on the 97 last which is one of Allen Edmonds early lasts, and has a soft, slightly pointed toe. It lays flatter in the toe area for a classic American look. The decision to keep or discontinue any style is generally based on the popularity of the shoes, customer feedback, or sales performance. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.
