    Care Instructions

STEP 1: Using a damp cloth or sponge, lather our Saddle Soap and apply onto leather to clean and restore its natural oils.

STEP 2: Moisturize the shoes with our Cream Polish to make them supple and soft, following instructions on the product.

STEP 3: Condition the shoes with our Speed Polish, protecting them from dirt, rain and snow.

STEP 4: Take our Heel dressing applicator and apply to the edge of the heel and sole.

STEP 5: Apply our Leather Lotion as needed for added protection and polish in between cleanings. Use our Horsehair Shine Brush to buff shoes to a desired shine.

*For camo printed leather, simply rub our Leather Lotion onto print with our Cotton Flannel Polishing Cloth as needed and wipe smudges or dirt away with a damp cloth.

    Relaxed Fit

The relaxed fit has added space in the toe box. This extra room allows for thicker socks and foot expansion that occurs at the end of the day or during a long flight.

Tate Cap Toe Shoe is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 36.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely Comfortable and Impeccably Packaged Shoes This review is related to my recently purchased 11.5/EEE brown pair of cap toe Tate shoes. (I also have a pair of black Tate Wingtip shoes however this review is focused on the brown pair). It appears that I just started buying brown shoes at the right time … Allen Edmonds appears to be moving more to “new” colors such as carbon and chili. I guess this broadening of the color palette for Allen Edmonds means that brown shoes are becoming heavily discounted-–at least in the styles that I need. I find that these shoes fit wide around the toe area – a good thing for me. I am wearing an 11.5/EEE in Tates and 12/EEE in other Allen Edmonds shoes. I used to wear 11.5/EEE in all my Allen Edmonds shoes until recently, so I am guessing my feet are spreading with age! Some reviewers have mentioned a perpetual squeaking from the rubbing of the materials in the shoe however the only time that I have noticed a squeaking is from the rubber soles and only when the soles are bleeding off wetness from rain or snow--they do not squeak when walking in the rain or snow. This squeaking usually last for about the first 10 or 12 footfalls after entering a building with shoes that are wet from rain or snow. I find that the rubber soles in my Tate shoes are equally good for comfort and inclement weather conditions. I don't think that these soles will last as long as Dainite soles given their softer composition. My brown Tate shoes were flawless … there were NO imperfections. I currently have over 20 pairs of shoes from Allen Edmonds and have purchased over 50 in my lifetime—probably more BUT who counts shoes? Anyway, these shoes were as well stitched, glued, and assembled as any of the top five most expensive shoes in my Allen Edmonds collection. I examined this pair very carefully and was amazed at the workmanship put into this pair of shoes. Whoever worked on this pair must be one of the master cobblers! Although packaging of shoes is not necessarily an issue of importance to most people, … I just have to say that my shoes were beautifully packaged. [I think that the attention to packaging is an extension of the quality of the company and its shoes.] Each pair of shoelaces were tied in an attractive manner, the shoes were perfectly stuffed with tan-colored tissue, each shoe was carefully wrapped in blue-colored tissue paper and separated by a gray Allen Edmonds shoe bag—therefore no scuffing due to shifting of the shoes during shipment. The shoe box itself was perfect, no imperfections, no indentations or manufacturing flaws. I was amazed!!! I just had to tell someone. I am doubly impressed with the exquisite packaging given that these are not the top of the line shoes for Allen Edmonds however they are the best packaged shoes that I have ever received from this company. I am pleased that at 66 years of age I can still be amazed by flawless workmanship and packaging. BTW, I do not give glowing reviews for all the Allen Edmonds shoes in my collection … these shoes were deserving of my positive comments. In summary, these shoes were true to size and fit perfectly and I was able to wear them all day on the first day with no foot fatigue—these shoes fit comfortably right out of the box. I think the cap toe Tate shoe will go best with blue jeans and chinos … I don’t think that they have the savoir faire to wear with a suit. The quality of the workmanship and the impossibly precise packaging added a certain je ne sais quoi – just a great feeling that lasts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good fit, nice leather, great wearability I've only had these a few weeks, but I walk a lot and have worn them daily. I've experienced only slight discomfort on the top of one big toe. The other shoe has caused no discomfort at all. The pebbled leather is pliable and takes a nice shine over the occasional scuff. The soles provide a nice bounce. Can't really comment on durability until I've had them a few more months. But I have another pair of AE that have lasted about 18 months of daily M-F wear and held up really well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good shoe that's neither fish nor fowl Another clearance pick-up, for <$110 delivered. As someone who grew up going out in jeans and Doc Martens, the idea of a thick-soled black derby appealed to me. Not much of a fan of pebble-grain leather, but it's very subdued in black and the upper is made from calfskin as expected with AE. Fit is true to size. I experienced some of the squeaking others have mentioned, though this is relatively easily remedied if it's too much for the wearer. The shoe is extremely comfortable; the sole is highly absorbent of any shock. My only real issue with the Tate cap toe is it is almost *too* dressy if you dress down jeans like I do. However, it is simultaneously too casual to wear with a coat and tie. Or a coat, period. This shoe's formality ceiling is chinos with a tucked-in shirt, full-stop. Hence the "neither fish nor fowl" comment - I like everything about this shoe, but it is almost a niche item for the reasons mentioned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shoe! I am thoroughly impressed. These are my first pair of AEs and they blew my mind! These shoes are as comfortable as tennis shoes, however, can be worn with suit and tie. The leather is very nice and comes with a decent shine. The build is impressive and I look forward to wearing these for a long time to come. The rubber soles do not make a squishy sound when I walk, and our floors are highly polished wood. My previous dress shoes squeaked a lot, and these barely make the same noise. I would definitely recommend these to anyone.
