    Ask & Answer
McTavish Oxford Wingtip Dress Shoe is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 58.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Incorrect size I ordered the shoes before a business trip and was excited to use them for my travels abroad. After receiving the shoes just in time, I discovered they are not true to size. I wear an 11D size in all my other AE shoes. These run extremely bigger than what is advertised or labeled. Maybe an entire size. This is very disappointing. And now the smaller size 10D is not available. I would expect something like this from a China supplier, not something that is made in America. Sorry!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality. Quality. Quality. Man, they just don't make shoes as good as they used to...uh, yes they do. I've worn these for several weeks now and enjoy them more each day. Old school craftsmanship at a good price. I get a complement almost every time I wear these or one of my other pair of Alan Edmonds shoes. Can you get a cheaper shoe? Sure. But I have looked and simply have not found a better shoe for the reasonable price! I highly recommend this shoe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Should have purchased a second pair This is my first pair of AE shoes, and I wish I had purchased a second pair already. Like the rest of the reviews say they do run about 1/2 size large but the width (EEE for me) was true to fit. Compared to all of the other dress shoes I've ever owned I had almost no break in period, roughly a half a day and I've been good to go. These look great dressed down with jeans, or up with a sport coat.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Looks great but squeaks terribly! Had to go down a size - usually an 8.5D in AE shoes but this one ran pretty big. Even with the correct size, it moves around a bit and causes a terrible squeak when walking due to my heel rubbing against the leather. Hopefully it goes away with time - I really want to give these 5 stars. Very unique look and perfect for business casual but man, the noise is annoying.

What Belt is recommended for the McTavish in the natural finish?

    Asked by: Drdoyal
I'm currently wearing the Sterling Ave belt in tan. The belt is a little darker than the natural finish but I can already tell the natural finish is getting a little darker due to wear.

    Is the Mctavish being discontinued?

I'm only finding them in the factory seconds section.
    Asked by: Greg
They have been redesigned, as shown in a recent catalog shipped September 2018. Black is now solid black, with no contrasting stitching and natural is replaced by “tan,” which looks like walnut with a bit more red. Clear lug sole retained.

    Asked by: Anonymous
These are soft sided. The sides are lined.

Is this new lug sole only temporary for the winter? I will buy when they go back to the old version but how long might have to wait?

Somewhat new to AE so I don't understand their timing for changing styles back and forth. My first par was McTavish and I want another pair in black but don't like new style. Will old style be back in the spring? The boot style sole looks terrible on this shoe. How much would I have to pay to get a normal sole? Also don't like the tan weld(?). The were perfect the way they were. Judging by the comments, many others think so too.

What is the sole made of?

What is the sole made of? Not the rubber part, but the part the rubber is attached to.
    Asked by: Doug
The base is still a sturdy leather. This is a top quality shoe from top to bottom. I have an older pair of McTavish shoes (with the full leather sole) and this new pair, and prefer the new styling in most cases.

I kind of dismissed this one since it is really more of a Ridgeway than a McTavish with that outsole, but it definitely looks really nice in person. Problem is that I absolutely could not fit a Neumok 2.0 in my normal size of 7D; far too wide. These are lined instead of unlined; think it's worth a try in 7D, or would you pass?
    Asked by: Anonymous
The current McTavish and the Neumok 2.0 are constructed on the same 201 last and they are both lined. The fit will be very similar. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

What color of sole dressing should be applied to the black McTavish? Chile, or Brown?

    Asked by: Anonymous
Any color of Heel & Sole Edge dressing can be applied depending on your desired color results. If you want to keep the same natural color on the edge of the sole, we recommend using the Neutral. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.
