  • Care

We believe a great pair of shoes or boots is always a solid long-term investment. To keep your favorite footwear in top form for years or even decades to comes, use our 4 Step Shoe Care Process and these essential products.

    1. Clean

Start by applying Saddle Soap with a Cotton Flannel Polishing Cloth to remove stains and dirt from the uppers and bring up the leather's natural oils.

    2. Polish

Next, use a Horsehair Dauber to treat your footwear with Cream Polish which renews the color and luster of leather. Any time you want to achieve a truly glossy, high shine, you should instead apply Carnauba Wax Polish.

    3. Dress

Restore the color and surface of the leather on the heels and soles using Heel Dressing.

    4. Protect

Leather Lotion keeps uppers soft, supple and hydrated while a Horsehair Shine Brush is perfect for buffing your shoes to the desired shine. As a last step, spray on Water Protector to guard against harmful moisture and spills and use a Leather Dopp Kit to keep all your care products organized.

Mackenna Plain-Toe Blucher with Dainite Sole is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favourite AE purchase so far Factory First version: For me, this shoe is perfect. The shoe is chunky, weighty and looks fabulous. The Dainite sole is the best for regular walking. Comfort is excellent as the size is correct. It's my 5th AE style and fits much better than the loose Nomad or the very tight Kenilworth and especially the almost unwearable Ace cap toe. Sorry to see that it's being discontinued, but I guess I can look to this 201 last for other purchases in the future. I have also bought the F2 version and again I love it. The leather on each shoe looks very different, one being almost totally smooth while the other is tumbled. Barely noticeable from a few feet away and I think it adds to the character. Incredible value for such a great shoe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another great AE Shoe - Very happy Wanted a less formal brown shoe for general purpose wear, mostly with jeans and a dress shirt, but also can dress up as well. Wanted the danite sole for being outside walking around when wet, since we get a lot of rain where I live and most of my shoes have leather soles. I saw some poor reviews and was a bit concerned, but the sale price was really good so I decided to go for it. I am very happy with them. Color, fit, workmanship ... all very good and up to Allen Edmonds standards. I can confirm what bothered some reviewers, the grain is not consistent. My left shoe is less grained than the right. The grain is different for pieces of leather on the same shoe. This does not bother me as its a natural feature of leather, and something you notice only if you are looking for it within 4-5 feet and the lighting is reflecting at the needed angle. Really nice shoes, go for it, buy them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dainite practicality My feet have grown wider (the Allen Edmonds store measurement is 10.5 EEE) and are having problems (upcoming surgery for a recurrent toe cyst and maybe future work on a bone spur), so I've been replacing shoes and reconfiguring with fewer but better. I discovered that the Dainite soles on a few Allen Edmonds shoes are what I've been wearing for years on a pair of sturdy English shoes that are now a bit tight. The soles have performed well. So I've now two pairs of Mackennas in different colors with Dainite soles. Based on early wearing, I expect them to be good for extended walking and suitable for urban sightseeing rather than sneakers. That means somewhat less use of deck shoes and sneakers in the resort town where I live.

Where are the shoes actually made?

The product page lists the shoes as being made in Port Washington, WI, but I received a black pair and a cognac pair this week and both of them have "Made in Dominican Republic" stamped on the tongue. I think it's an important distinction when finding "Made in America" shoes is a part of the purchasing decision making process.
    Asked by: RDSwords
My two pairs, black and cognac, recently arrived, are marked "made in Dominican Republic" on the tongue. The product page now says "Dominican Republic."

If you choose the Dainite sole, what happens when the heel &/or sole wear down & need replacing? Leather is quick & easy with my cobbler.

    Asked by: Don
I had a pair of Tates with soft sole recrafted by Allen Edmonds and they went to the Dainite sole. It was no problem for them and they look like they were made that way from the beginning. So I don’t think that working with the sole would be an issue.. If you prefer to have your own cobbler do the re-sole in the future, it looks to me like it would be straight forward. The stitching on both the welt and sole are easy to get at.
