  • Care

We believe a great pair of shoes or boots is always a solid long-term investment. To keep your favorite footwear in top form for years or even decades to comes, use our 4 Step Shoe Care Process and these essential products.

    1. Clean

Start by applying Saddle Soap with a Cotton Flannel Polishing Cloth to remove stains and dirt from the uppers and bring up the leather's natural oils.

    2. Polish

Next, use a Horsehair Dauber to treat your footwear with Cream Polish which renews the color and luster of leather. Any time you want to achieve a truly glossy, high shine, you should instead apply Carnauba Wax Polish.

    3. Dress

Restore the color and surface of the leather on the heels and soles using Heel Dressing.

    4. Protect

Leather Lotion keeps uppers soft, supple and hydrated while a Horsehair Shine Brush is perfect for buffing your shoes to the desired shine. As a last step, spray on Water Protector to guard against harmful moisture and spills and use a Leather Dopp Kit to keep all your care products organized.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from McTavish Wingtip Waxed Suede Shoe Phenomenal shoe. Seriously. It’s a heavier shoe than I thought, but that’s what I like about it. You could tell it’s a shoe that’s truly built to last. You could tell it’s a shoe that will continue to look great when fully broken in. Got the dark brown. Now want to get the black ones though I haven’t been able to find as I’m a EEE width shoe. But I’m looking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Its all about the fit Here's the thing, these, like any AE shoe that I've bought, are of very high quality. The leather is thick, the construction is excellent; the lining is comfortable; the design is timeless; these shoes are the essence of quality. This particular style, with the waxed leather and the lugged sole, offers a twist on the typical AE men's shoe. They are shoes that will be easy to wear with everything from jeans and chinos to a shirt and tie if you choose. The shoes themselves are on the heavier side, I feel like this is a direct result of the thick leather and the lugged sole. All that said... I had to send them back. Why? The fit. The length is spot on, I wear a size 11 in my other AE shoes and these were true to length; the issue is the width. I admittedly have a high arch and a narrow foot and the standard D width is simply too wide for my foot; I wish a narrow was offered but its not and so I took a chance with the D and its just not to be. If you have a medium-width foot these will likely fit you better than they did me. Ultimately, its all about the fit, and in this case that's why they had to go back. I'll hope they offer a narrow width in the future.

    Asked by: Ahmed
Hello Ahmed. Thank you for your interest in the Cyrus Ave Dress belt in the Snuff Brown color. We would recommend the American Grain Collection - Half Moon Zip Duffle Bag, Item No: 9-DF to go along with the belt. We hope this helps you. Thank you for shopping at Allen Edmonds.

How to best take care of waxy suede leather like in McTavish?

Waxy suede is not like regular suede. It is also described as weatherproof. Is it like CF Stead Waxy Commander; for which beeswax or Dubbin is recommended? Can Huberd's shoe oil be used on this?
    Asked by: Puneet
It is like the CF stead waxy commander. Doesn’t require much to take care: This is a hardy leathrr. Don’t worry too much about it. Brush dirt off. Condition: I use Bick4 - a light conditioner that does not seem to darken the leather. A little goes a long way. Massage it in. Leave for 30 min or so. Brush. This brings out a light shine. Then I put a light coat of wax polish on the toe and heel - you could use the AE brown carnuba; I use Angelus Dark Brown. Lightly buff for a minute. Light polish on the sides of the sole, heel; you could use heel dressing too. Light polish in the welt area. Spray a generic suede/nubuck protector all around. That’s it. About 10min of work.

We believe finding the right fit is vitally important, so we recommend a professional fitting by an Allen Edmonds associate at your nearest retail location: To find a store near you, please follow this link: https://www.allenedmonds.com/stores If that's not possible, we suggest trying the size you typically wear in dress shoes and judging the fit based on how comfortable you feel in the shoes. Will I Like this Last?

I have a number of AE shoes in 511 last - Bradley, Wilbert - and find those very comfortable. I’ve not enjoyed my McAllister’s as much because they feel a bit too narrow for me. I am wondering how the McTavish will compair to these. The description of the last sounds a bit like the one for the McAllister but describes a wider toe area. Would love some advice.

What belt do you recommend pairing with the Tan Horween Dublin Leather McTavish Oxford Wingtip Dress Shoe

    Asked by: topherblue
Great question, after purchasing my McTavish in Tan I would keep the belt in same color theme as the shoes example brown, tan or in the light or dark shades. Yes I would wear an exotic print leather belt or a flat color belt.

    squeaking/squishing

Hi, I bought these in tan a couple months ago. I've been breaking them in, but cannot get rid of the squeaking a squishing sound they make every step in the heel area. I have other Mctavish shoes and many other Allen Edmonds, the size is correct, they just have heel squeaking. Any suggestions? I've put leather lotion on the inside of the heels, and have been wearing them around the house and to work a few times, but it's just not going away.
    Asked by: Norm
We apologize for any concerns that have occurred with your McTavish style. Squeaking sometimes occurs on shoes because we use authentic leathers such as calfskin. When two pieces of leather rub against each other, such as the leather lining, upper leather and /or tongue leathers, squeaking may occur due to the friction. The fix is usually quite simple; general wear will help dissipate the noise, or you can apply Leather Lotion as a lubricant. Customers also report that applying foot powder inside the shoe can reduce this noise. Importantly, if you have further questions or concerns, please call our AllenEdmonds.com Consumer Care Department for assistance at 1-877-817-7615. The Call Center hours are Monday 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m., Tuesday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. CST.
