    Care Instructions

STEP 1: Using a damp cloth or sponge, lather our Saddle Soap and apply onto leather to clean and restore its natural oils.

STEP 2: Moisturize the shoes with our Cream Polish to make them supple and soft, following instructions on the product.

STEP 3: Condition the shoes with our Speed Polish, protecting them from dirt, rain and snow.

STEP 4: Take our Heel dressing applicator and apply to the edge of the heel and sole.

STEP 5: Apply our Leather Lotion as needed for added protection and polish in between cleanings. Use our Horsehair Shine Brush to buff shoes to a desired shine.

*For camo printed leather, simply rub our Leather Lotion onto print with our Cotton Flannel Polishing Cloth as needed and wipe smudges or dirt away with a damp cloth.

    Relaxed Fit

The relaxed fit has added space in the toe box. This extra room allows for thicker socks and foot expansion that occurs at the end of the day or during a long flight.

Tate Chukka Boot is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 77.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from A sole failure AE is quickly losing my affection. These Chukka has great fit and purpose, but the soles are horrible!!! I purchased them in early Nov. 2020 and didn’t get much wear out of them before both soles were separating. I had them with me when I left home late Nov. and due to my work location they sat in a corner because there wasn’t a Allen Edmond store within 100 miles. I returned home in Jan. took them to my local store and they were sent out for repairs. Got them back and left town with them again in February and they are now currently sitting in the corner again because of the same issue. No, I will not recommend these boots to anyone and will further address this with AE. Stay clear!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from AE is Going Downhill Fast! Purchased a pair of black Tate chukkas, and am really disappointed. First, the leather appears to be corrected grain instead of full grain, so polish has a hard time penetrating. Second, the vamp is too damned tight and seems to be poorly designed, causing an unsightly hump to form beneath the tongue. Also, the width of the boot is too narrow to be a "relaxed fit," and the insole is so uncomfortable my feet hurt within minutes of putting them on. Third, the top edge of the boot is not padded at all and feels like a knife cutting into my ankle. Finally, it seems that the AE products that are made in the Dominican Republic are far inferior to the ones made in the USA. Very poor workmanship. I had a pair of AE Wilson chukka's that we're even worse than these. Now I see why they've been discontinued. Stick with the Surrey, or perhaps the Cyrus chukkas, and stay away from the Tate, and the Wilson!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Usual Allen Edmonds quality, but back should be padded Sizing is very true and the sole construction is perfect for the winter snow and sleet when traveling. The shoe is easy to slip into and go quickly. Only complaint is that at the back of the shoe should be padded or some sort of slightly different construction. The leather at the top rubs against my socks and skin above my achilles and is irritating. I assume this will go away when the shoe is more broken in, but annoying for now

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Versatile light weight boots My first pair of AE mail ordered and I was anxious if it will fit well. When I put it on, I was so impressed with the fit and comfort. Nice to have a pair of Goodyear welted boots with a lightweight soft sole for a change. Should make a great pair of travel boots.

    Explain the width chart

    Asked by: Mickeymouse
Thank you for your inquiry! Part of what makes Allen Edmonds shoes so unique is the extensive range of sizes and widths we offer that make achieving a perfect fit much simpler. Each half size increases by approximately one-sixth of an inch and each full size increases by one-third of an inch. The widths of Allen Edmonds shoes range from 4A, the narrowest width, to EEE, the widest width, with a D width considered medium. Technically speaking, each width increases by approximately three-sixteenths of an inch in total girth. -AE Consumer Care Dept.

I wear EEE 12 and the fit is good if you do not have high instep. If you do it may be tight need to break it in.

Read that some people have squeaking... love the fit, but my socks seem to rub the boot and make it squeak — even if I just wiggle my toes!!! Will the squeaking go away, or is there a conditioner that can be put on the inner leather liner to mke the squeaking stop? Many thanks for advice or suggestions,
    Asked by: Mike K-man
Thank you for your question. Squeaking sometimes occurs on shoes because Allen Edmonds uses authentic leathers such as calf skin.  When two pieces of new leather rub against each other, such as the leather lining, upper leather and /or tongue leathers, a slight squeaking may occur.  The fix is usually quite simple; general wear will eliminate the noise or you can apply leather lotion as a lubricant. You may also apply leather lition inside the shoes.  Lotion can be found at AllenEdmonds.com, most shoe shine stands or simply visit an Allen Edmonds store and have a store associate apply the lotion for you.   Importantly, if you have any further concerns or needs please contact our online customer service team directly at 877-817-7615.

    Break in

The boot tongue is thick at the bottom (an extra layer of leather is added to match the boot's interior) and thin at the top (just the outer layer of leather). I have high arches and the borderline in the shoe tongue makes the boots very uncomfortable to wear. Would it break in or it's just not my model?
    Asked by: Akkie
No, will not break in in my experience. Would recommend against the Tate. Not a well-designed shoe.
