  • Care

We believe a great pair of shoes or boots is always a solid long-term investment. To keep your favorite footwear in top form for years or even decades to comes, use our 4 Step Shoe Care Process and these essential products.

    1. Clean

Start by applying Saddle Soap with a Cotton Flannel Polishing Cloth to remove stains and dirt from the uppers and bring up the leather's natural oils.

    2. Polish

Next, use a Horsehair Dauber to treat your footwear with Cream Polish which renews the color and luster of leather. Any time you want to achieve a truly glossy, high shine, you should instead apply Carnauba Wax Polish.

    3. Dress

Restore the color and surface of the leather on the heels and soles using Heel Dressing.

    4. Protect

Leather Lotion keeps uppers soft, supple and hydrated while a Horsehair Shine Brush is perfect for buffing your shoes to the desired shine. As a last step, spray on Water Protector to guard against harmful moisture and spills and use a Leather Dopp Kit to keep all your care products organized.

Dalton Weatherproof Wingtip Dress Boots with Dainite Rubber Sole is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from First pair of AEs Not sure what the quality of these shoes were in previous years. However, I disagree with recent reviews about the brand. It’s a very comfortable and light shoe. I wear 12D in most boots and these were no exception in terms of fit, plus I have narrow foot. This particular boot is better suited for premium jeans rather than dress pants. My opinion is that mid-tops are better looking with dress pants. Snag a pair if you can catch a sale but if not, it’s still worth the investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Iconic Dress Boot I’ve had my eyes on the Daltons for a long time and couldn’t resist grabbing a pair when I caught a special sale. I am very pleased with my purchase. The design is classic I had no complaints with the workmanship. l'd describe the chili color as a rich brown with red undertones. It should prove very versatile. The generically described “German waterproof leather” is very soft and appears to be of excellent quality. Regardless, I wish AE would have offered more information on the source, tanning and care of the leather. I purchased the weatherproof version of the Dalton in case I unexpectedly get caught in a shower but I don't plan on subjecting these handsome (and expensive) boots to puddles, slush, road salt or a major storm. There are plenty of cheaper, utilitarian boots for those conditions. With respect to sizing, I wear an 11D in AE’s Pattons and Surreys, which both advertise a “relaxed fit” via the 1757 last. The Daltons are made on the 511 last, which is characterized as a more "classic fit." I went with an 11E for the Daltons and the fit was perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Boot! So far, very happy. Got these during rediscover America sale, so for the price, they were a great deal! I wear a 13B in all AE’s, and it fit true to size. Can wear with dress socks, or even slightly thicker wool socks (probably not thick hiking socks though). Color is darker, but kind of reminiscent of the old Dark Chocolate color AE used to have. Love the right out of the box comfort of the poron insole (AE, please do more of this!), and the leather is pretty soft for being new, compared to other AE’s. The reason for 4/5 on quality, is there was some stitching on the upper that was not 100% aligned, and the dainite sole wasn’t sewed on quite right... the stitching went over one of the grooves on the sole, because it wasn’t aligned correctly when put sewed on. Doesn’t affect comfort when wearing, so I kept them. Haven’t tested them in inclement weather yet, but hope they hold up well, as they’re weatherproof. However, so far, one week in, really happy with the purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Boots AE offers This version of the Dalton, weatherproof leather, feels so much better than the normal Dalton. The leather is super soft compared to the normal Dalton, and there is a very little break-in period. I was worried about the brown not matching my basic wide Allen Edmonds coffee color belt and looking too bland. However, to my surprise, the belt and boots complement each other very well. In addition, I didn’t think I was going to like the color and style of this boot. However, having it now and worn several times with different outfits, this is now my favorite go-to-boot. The boot has the complete package that is comfortable and stylish. I can dress up and down with different outfits without worrying about rain. Allen Edmonds needs to offer more colors because I would definitely purchase this again in several more colors. FYI, I did take these boots out in the rain. No, not little droplets. Heavy rain! And yes it performed well in the rain.

How to clean, condition, and protect weathersafe leather and boot?

    Asked by: Mosfek
IMO, less is best when it comes to smooth leather boots. Out of the box, I apply a conditioner. I've settled on Saphir Renovateur. It provides a little bit of mink oil for added moisture protection, lots of fats and oils for conditioning and a little wax for a nice shine. I brush my boots after each wear making sure to hit the welt area, broguing and seams. Every few months, I brush, wipe with a damp cloth, and reapply the Saphir. I save the saddle soap for occasions when surface dirt is stubborn. After conditioning, I’ll add a layer of pigmented cream polish when I need it to cover nicks and scuffs. Boots are meant to have character so I generally skip wax polish. I'm not looking for a high shine and I think the protective benefits of wax are overstated. If you insist, though, you can apply a bit of wax on the toe cap and the counter. "Waterproofing" spray is not for me either. The less aerosols around my lungs, the better. Further," weatherproof" leather has typically been deep treated at the tannery and this boot’s construction employs special measures to keep water from reaching your socks. I’m skeptical that a quick onceover with an expensive spray is cost effective.

What color of edge dressing would someone use on this boot - brown or black?

    Asked by: Shaun7
The dressing is a very dark brown on the boot from Allen Edmonds. There's some variation in the color especially against the black of the rubber sole but it's not really noticeable.

I wear a 13 in Strand & Fifth Avenues, but a 12 in my Cavanaughs. Which shoe would this be more similar to?

    Asked by: James
I wear 13B in strand, park avenue, Long Branch, Dundee, and Daltons, so I’d go with similar size if you’re on the fence. I only have bought shoes on the 5 last and the 511 last though, so not sure on the Cavanaugh last.
