    Relaxed Fit

The relaxed fit has added space in the toe box. This extra room allows for thicker socks and foot expansion that occurs at the end of the day or during a long flight.

Higgins Mill Boot with Chromexcel Leather is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 180.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good but has issues Overall I’m satisfied with the purchase. I like the fit and the style but there obvious workmanship issues. Loose threads, tooling marks and various blemishes on finish.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Runs Large I was very impressed with how they looked out of the box. Although, there were some minor imperfections in the leather, but not bad enough to warrant a return even though a boot this expensive should have 0 imperfections, in my opinion. After wearing them around the house I did notice that after they were broken in they would have been much too large. I returned them, and purchased some pattons at an outlet store in Charleston. Not only were they cheaper, but I was also able to guarantee a good fit bc unless you have purchased shoes from AE in the past there’s no good way to pick the perfect size for your foot. I had to size down from an 10.5 4e in my brooks running shoes(that fit a little snug tbh), to a 9 3e in the AE shoes I just purchased. I’ll definitely be buying shoes from them again in the future, but it’ll most likely be on discount at the outlet. Hard to justify the price when most of them are going to have defects regardless.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cutting corners A customer of AE for 30 plus years. Always pleased with their quality perhaps except for a period about 15 years ago for a short while. Currently have several styles of shoe and a few boots. These regrettably are not up to what I would expect from AE. Specifically the cheap suede tongue that flops around and slides to the outside ankle when wearing boot. If a person is going to but a chromexcel boot quality is key. Sadly lacking here. Alden’s version of this boot is much better crafted with attention to detail and of course more expensive but worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Standing the Test of Time I purchased these boots about 2 years ago after doing a lot of research into different boots. These are comfortable and did not take too long to break in. The cordovan color is exactly what I was looking for. After 2 years of moderate wear (3 days per week), the leather is in good shape and the soles are not worn. If you take care of these by keeping them clean and polished (finished with mink oil), they will look great and last a long time. I purchased these hoping they would become my boots for many years...not just something I would replace after a few. I considered it a "forever" purchase (for at least a 15 year purchase). They are brilliant and I would buy them again.

Is there a way to make the chemical odor dissipate?

I love everything about these boots except for the strong shoe store odor they emit. I'm considered about what to do if I keep them and the smell persists.
    Asked by: Jonathan
Chromexcel leather may have a slight odor from all the oils, waxes, and greases that are "hot-stuffed" into the leather. The odor will dissipate overtime with normal aeration and wear, but will likely never get completely eliminated because of the way the leather is tanned. If you have other questions, feel free to contact us again.

I'm reading contradictory info on how to care for chromexcel--is it ok to use normal shoe creams and polishes or just AE "Leather Lotion"?

    Asked by: Jonathan
We recommend our Cream Polish in Neutral for regular care because that is formulated for Chromexcel leather. You can use Leather Lotion as a gentle "cleaner" by applying a small amount to a cloth to remove surface dust as needed. Saddle Soap can also be used, but only if absolutely necessary and sparingly, for example if you happen to get a lot of dirt or mud on the leather. If you have other questions, feel free to contact us again.

How do I stabilize the tongue? It seems to shift on me as I wear the boots. Maybe a lacing issue or what?

    Asked by: Lefty
Our recrafting department can reinforce the tongue on your boots. Please contact our Recrafting Customer Service team directly at recrafting@allenedmonds.com or call 877-495-5564.

    Lace keeper?

It appears from the photos on your website that (some) of your "weatherproof" Higgins Mill boots have a lace keeper on the infamous wandering tongue. Do you have the same feature or do you plan to have it on this regular Chromexcel version as well?
    Asked by: JohnJohn
This Higgins Mill version does not feature a tongue loop. Please know we value customer feedback and it will be taken into consideration for future offerings. Thank you for contacting us!

    Replace Insoles?

Hello, My insoles are damages, do you offer replacement insoles for this shoe? Thank you.
    Asked by: JM
Unfortunately, we don't offer nor sell replacement insoles. Please accept our sincerest apologies. We recommend purchasing a pair from your local grocery or drug store, as several companies make supportive styles which can be cut to fit your shoe.

My best friend wears a 16D - your shoe chart for fit goes to 16 but the drop down stops at 15; do you make a 16D?

He’s 6’7” and a medical professional and I love my Allen Edmonds shoes for all day comfort. I also think he’d really appreciate the quality as well
    Asked by: Gerry
Unfortunately, the Higgins Mill is not offered in a size 16.

Are the uppers and everything of the Higgins Mill Chromexcel boots(in brown or discontinued black) made in the USA?

I have a pair of the black chromexcel Higgins Mill boots. I love them! I've had them for roughly two years now and they look and feel fantastic. I wear them at home in Germany and when I travel to the USA for work. I posted about them on instagram. Someone else who owns a pair, in brown, said that the uppers are made in the Dominican Republic and then attached to the soles in the Wisconsin. This doesn't make sense to me because the inside of the boot says "Handcrafted in the USA." Also, chromexcel leather is imported leather that is awesomely treated by Horween in Chicago. I can't imagine AE buying this leather from 3 hours away, sending that to leather to the DR, having the sue the uppers and then send that leather back to WI. I think Horween sends the leather to WI and everything is made there. If it is the case that the uppers are made in DR, then I will just focus my hashtags to the welt construction and the comfort and leather, rather than include made in the USA. But, the boot says made in the USA. I think they are 100% stitched and assembled at your WI factory. Sorry for the long rant. I love the boots!
    Asked by: Thomas
We are so sorry for any confusion. The Higgine Mill is an American made shoe. The uppers are made using Horween Leather. The shoe is manufactured in Port Washington.

It's a non-gusseted tongue made of suede leather. Why suede? Nobody knows. With a non-gusseted suede tongue, I doubt these boots are anything-proof.
