    Care Instructions

STEP 1: Using a damp cloth or sponge, lather our Saddle Soap and apply onto leather to clean and restore its natural oils.

STEP 2: Moisturize the shoes with our Cream Polish to make them supple and soft, following instructions on the product.

STEP 3: Condition the shoes with our Speed Polish, protecting them from dirt, rain and snow.

STEP 4: Take our Heel dressing applicator and apply to the edge of the heel and sole.

STEP 5: Apply our Leather Lotion as needed for added protection and polish in between cleanings. Use our Horsehair Shine Brush to buff shoes to a desired shine.

*For camo printed leather, simply rub our Leather Lotion onto print with our Cotton Flannel Polishing Cloth as needed and wipe smudges or dirt away with a damp cloth.

    Relaxed Fit

The relaxed fit has added space in the toe box. This extra room allows for thicker socks and foot expansion that occurs at the end of the day or during a long flight.

    Ask & Answer
Higgins Mill Weatherproof Boot with Dainite Rubber Sole is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not quite weatherproof. I bought the chili higgins with dainite and they look and feel amazing but as far as the weatherproofing being able to “conquer the elements...rain...snow” as advertised, not so much. These boots may have that work boot/fashionable boot look but they are more for mild precipitation. After six months of usage they began to take in moisture and soaked my socks a bit. Guess I need to spray them with a waterproofer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional Value on Sale- Chili Weatherproof **Chili has a tongue loop to keep tongue from slipping to the side, which other colors don't** I bought these on deep sale from Nordstrom (less than half of MSRP). I was concerned that the waterproof membrane would make my feet clammy, but it is not too bad. Would prefer it didn't have that feature, as the Chili is a dressier leather and I'm not going to use them in heavy rain/snow/mud etc. I'm guessing the conflicting dressy leather/rugged waterproof construction is what rendered them a less popular/sale item. They are super solid in fit/finish. No loose threads, welt join is solid. A couple faint silver marker marks remain, but are not an issue for me. German leather is a bit thin and leans towards dressy, but I like that. The color and burnishing are good to me. Super comfortable from the first time wearing. We will see how they age. Was a tad disappointed to get a strong odor of glue upon opening box instead of fresh leather, but the glue smell is fading fast and I think a subtle leather (and foot) smell will be the long term aroma. I am a 10D in Redwing #8 last and went 10D in these. Perfect fit for me in length and width.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great, but not quite perfect, boots Starting from a value perspective - Yes, these are $400+ boots, so why buy these when other similar styles from others like Thursday’s are available for about half the cost? Once you hold these in your hands, you’re going to understand - the soft leather upper, which is also soft leather lined from front to back, is so much more comfortable than what you’ll find elsewhere at a lesser price point. It Only took about 4 wearings to break these in comfortably. I wear a B width, and the toe box is still a bit wide; not a problem, just wear a thicker pair of socks underneath. AE’s weatherproof claim seems to be legit - I’ve been stomping around in puddles out in the rain with these several times now and have had no problems at all with the finish getting ruined or getting my feet wet, plus the dainite sole provides great traction! These smelled awful right out of the box, which I assume is from whatever weatherproofing they apply at the factory, but don’t worry, the stink dissipates quickly. Not sure about the ‘dress it up or down’ business in the description. I’ll wear these to work with khakis and a button up shirt and it works fine, but these are really casually styled. These are based on LOGGING boots, not sure how anybody would confuse that with dressing up, no way would I recommend wearing these with dress slacks or a suit. Next thing - I’ve read several other reviews about this and unfortunately had the same issue with the tongue on one boot tending to slide to one side. It’s not that uncomfortable when it happens, it’s just annoying that a boot in this price point, and one of AE’s flagship products, has an issue like this. FWIW, this isn’t an issue with the Dalton or Patton boots because they secure the tongue to the sides a bit higher up the boot. This seems to be a common issue for the Higgins Mill that seems easy to fix, but for some reason hasn’t been. One last thing - I really wish these had a pull loop on the back to help get them on. It’s odd that the Pattons have a loop and these don’t considering how much taller the upper is on these when compared to the much shorter Patton boot. Overall, I’m very pleased with these, no regrets with this purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these I wasn't a boot wearing fellow for most of my life, then I got the Higgins Mill Chromexcel and really liked them. Added these about a year and a half later. Oddly, with the Chromexcel pair, I ended up with a 9.5 D after also trying the 9.5 E and 10. None of them was perfect. With these, the 9.5 D was too small and my usual size with other brands, 10 D, fit just right--so I would start with your normal size. For context, I am a 9.5 E in the Park Avenue and Strandmok. As others have noted, there can be quality control issues with AE these days, but in my experience, if you are near a local store they will address any concerns with no issues. Also worth mentioning, the store rep said he preferred the Dainite sole to the lug sole. After seeing both in person, I agree 100%; the lug sole is really light--it's tough looking but not tough feeling. Finally, these dress up and down very easily, probably less up as they start to wear more, but still very versatile. What inspired me to write this was that I got home today and went to take them off but decided to leave them on because they felt so good. Weird, I know, but that's the truth.

    Tongue Slip???

Hello, I'm a huge fan of AE, but I've read a lot of reviews about the Higgins Mills tongue slipping. I noticed via he photos for the Higgins Mills, that depending on the colors, the tongue includes a lace loop to mitigate the tongue slippage. What are your thoughts, or do all colors now come with the lace loop?
    Asked by: DD
All of our shoes with the lace loop.

Also interested in breathability. Compared to non-weatherproof versions, is the difference noticeable?

    Asked by: BB
Even though the membrane is waterproof it is also highly breathable. The difference to other styles is not significant, but that depends a lot on each individual's sensitivity, preferences, and of course local climate. Thank you for your question!

Is there a leather lining next to my sock or would my sock be up against the waterproof membrane?

I ask because my experience with boots with waterproof membranes is that they create more sweat and, thus, moisture inside the boot than ever creeps in from outside. I am hoping that a leather lining next to the skin alleviates that problem somewhat. Frankly, I have always considered these waterproof membranes a gimmick of marginal utility that is not a net benefit to anyone.
    Asked by: Simple
The leather lining will be up against your socks. We apologize for any disappointment this may cause!

How will this boot compare to the Higgins Mill Boot with Chromexcel Leather over time?

Will this leather have the same patina in a few years?
    Asked by: Christian
Hello, Thank you for your inquiry! The weatherproof boot is built to be more durable overtime. Please keep in mind the leather that is used to make this boot and the chromexcel leather are treated differently.

    How "dressy" is this boot?

Can the black boot be worn with business casual, or a tie, and still look proper?
    Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, definitely. I wear my boots to work 'business casual' and receive compliments. Walk through winter slush and slop worry free.
