    Care Instructions

STEP 1: Using a damp cloth or sponge, lather our Saddle Soap and apply onto leather to clean and restore its natural oils.

STEP 2: Moisturize the shoes with our Cream Polish to make them supple and soft, following instructions on the product.

STEP 3: Condition the shoes with our Speed Polish, protecting them from dirt, rain and snow.

STEP 4: Take our Heel dressing applicator and apply to the edge of the heel and sole.

STEP 5: Apply our Leather Lotion as needed for added protection and polish in between cleanings. Use our Horsehair Shine Brush to buff shoes to a desired shine.

*For camo printed leather, simply rub our Leather Lotion onto print with our Cotton Flannel Polishing Cloth as needed and wipe smudges or dirt away with a damp cloth.

    Relaxed Fit

The relaxed fit has added space in the toe box. This extra room allows for thicker socks and foot expansion that occurs at the end of the day or during a long flight.

Lake Forest Penny Loafer is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 64.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from AE should be enberassed I ordered the Lake Forest Penny Loafer in walnut. This was not a factory second order. The order came from the Allen Edmonds store in Coral Gables Florida. They should be ashamed for sending the pair they did. Both are scuffed and scratched with one having an actual gouge in the leather. No quality control. I have two other pairs of shoes on the way and if either or both have similar problems I will never buy another AE shoe.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Shoe is stiff; A little uncomfortable; rubs I like the shoes, very much. They look great, and they seem to be constructed with high quality. Finding the right size was a bit of a process. After trying on several sizes in the store, I felt pretty good that I selected the right length and width. Unfortunately, though, the length and width were not in stock, so I ordered online, without knowing for sure. The shoes are pretty stiff, a little uncomfortable, and they have rubbed my feet to the point that I have a sore spot. Fortunately, I am able to rotate shoes to prevent getting a blister. I am confident that I would get a blister if I didn’t rotate shoes. I hope these shoes “break in,” and quickly. I’m cautiously optimistic.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent shoes that run very large I bought these shoes in 11.5 E to replace another pair of Allen Edmonds loafers I have in the same size. Surprisingly, they were much roomier than my other pair - my heel slipped right out as I tried walking around. I sent them back and ordered an 11 and found I had the same problem. I know loafers tend to stretch out as they break in, so I would've expected the opposite - that they start out a little on the small side - not that I would have to order a full size down just to keep them on my feet on day one. I also found the sides of the shoes uncomfortably dug into my ankles, but this could improve as the shoes break in. The construction at least seems like the quality I'm used to from AE.

    Proper treatment

How should I treat these shoes before wearing them? Waterproofer? Leather lotion? Anything in particular? Also, what type of leather are these made from? Thank you.
    Asked by: Kris
Allen Edmonds shoes are ready to wear out of the box, however some customer like to shine them before wearing them the first time. This is not entirely necessary as it really is just personal preference. If you wish to care for the shoes before wearing them, you can apply Leather Lotion and follow with Speed Polish to add shine. The Lake Forest is made using calfskin. Feel free to contact us again if you have additional questions!

I just received this shoe for Christmas...I want to know other peoples experience with the fit.

I own two other pairs of Allen Edmonds. The Clifton and Strand, both in 10.5 D. They fit like a glove out of the box but these Lake Forest loafers in the same size are quite a bit more roomy and slip on the heel.
    Asked by: Jeff
Shoe runs large in width and length....and narrow in comfort. I recommend a different pair of shoes

    Size Down?

Is it recommended to size down a half size in these loafers? I'm a 10 and measure right between C and D on a brannock. Typically wear a 10 D on other Allen Edmonds.
    Asked by: njtim
No, length is standard. I wear 10.5, but the width can be a little problematic. D tight and E a bit loose. Wear thin sock with D, thick with E. They do accept returns if necessary.

I have over 20 pairs of AE and typically 10D regardless of lasts fits me well. Also, I wear 9.5D in Alden Barrie. The width of my feet is between a D and E, kind of like a D+/E-. I also have flat feet. On Nordstrom's site, they say Lake Forest runs large and recommend going down a size. Unfortunately, there's no AE stores near me to try them on. What size should I get in Lake Forest? TIA.
    Asked by: KC
It is difficult to recommend a size through this channel and guarantee a proper fit because each style can fit differently based on the contours of your feet. Typically, we recommend trying the same size you usually wear and judge the fit based on how comfortable you feel in the shoes.   It is vitally important to visit an Allen Edmonds retail store or retail partner for a professional fitting to increase your chances of being fit correctly for each last and style. If that's not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on AllenEdmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip.  Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoes in returnable condition. http://www.allenedmonds.com/discover/shoes-101/lasts.html

How should I treat this shoe before I begin wearing it (i.e., waterproofing, etc.)?

    Asked by: Kris
Thank you for your question. The shoes are ready to wear out of the box. We do not have a recommended waterproofing agent for our shoes as waterproofers can damage the calfskin leather and finishes we use.

I just bought a polishing kit for my lake forest, how do I use each item that came with it?

The polishing kit came with leather lotion, conditional cleaner, and premium shoe polish.
    Asked by: DC
Brush your shoe off with a horsehair cleaning brush. This removes gross dust. If you are really dirty a damp cotton cloth may be needed. Use a small amount of cleaner/conditioner and rub into shoe with circular motions. Once you get the shoe covered, wipe off with clean cotton cloth. Leather lotion can then be applied, you do not need a lot just enough to cover the shoe. Let dry and penetrate. At least 20 minutes but I let it go at least a few hours. Apply polish in circular motions and let dry at least 10 minutes. Use a horsehair brush, this is the one that you use on similar colors for shinning and not cleaning. And brush to a desired shine. Use a clean cloth to do a final wipe down. Depending on wear this might be a monthly ritual or weekly depends on how much you wear. But once you get a base shine brushing and wiping will go a long way.
