McTavish Oxford Wingtip Waxed Suede Dress Shoe is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great winter shoe. I've had the brown waxed suede for three months and it has proven to be a great winter shoe. I purchased in my local AE store to get the right fit. I agree the brown suede is very dark, but I like it. Construction is excellent. The rubber lug sole walks softer and quieter than the Dainite soles that I own. I'm very happy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Heel fell apart after first hours of wear. After a few hours of wear, the heel feel apart. Totally defective. I have owned several pairs of AE shoes. Never had an experience like this. Need to return.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great pair of shoe except for a minor issue. This is my 6th pair of AE shoes. Brought it online from the recent sales - great value. Great pair of shoe and fits well except for a minor issue - the right shoe's foxing trim is hitting beneath my right ankel bone. Trying to break it in to see if this will loosen up - any suggestion?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A versatile shoe Overall I really like these shoes. This shoe is versatile and easy to pair with casual as well as business/ smart casual outfits and will be in my regular rotation. The waxed brown suede looks darker than in the pictures. Built like a tank, rugged yet refined - those are the word associations that come to mind. Would have been even better if these came with dainite soles but hey one can’t have everything. In terms of fit, I was worried that the supposedly high instep 201 last would result in a loose fit but not so. I have a normal instep but wide feet and this was surprisingly snug at the instep so folks with high insteps be aware of that. It has broken in a bit after a few wears but it will give a bit more and the lacing will close. There was one quality issue that irked me - a noticeable gouge/break in the welt where the two ends meet, but I have made my peace with it since.

How to best take care of waxy suede leather like in McTavish?

Waxy suede is not like regular suede. It is also described as weatherproof. Is it like CF Stead Waxy Commander; for which beeswax or Dubbin is recommended? Can Huberd's shoe oil be used on this?
    Asked by: Puneet
It is like the CF stead waxy commander. Doesn’t require much to take care: This is a hardy leathrr. Don’t worry too much about it. Brush dirt off. Condition: I use Bick4 - a light conditioner that does not seem to darken the leather. A little goes a long way. Massage it in. Leave for 30 min or so. Brush. This brings out a light shine. Then I put a light coat of wax polish on the toe and heel - you could use the AE brown carnuba; I use Angelus Dark Brown. Lightly buff for a minute. Light polish on the sides of the sole, heel; you could use heel dressing too. Light polish in the welt area. Spray a generic suede/nubuck protector all around. That’s it. About 10min of work.

    Will I Like this Last?

I have a number of AE shoes in 511 last - Bradley, Wilbert - and find those very comfortable. I’ve not enjoyed my McAllister’s as much because they feel a bit too narrow for me. I am wondering how the McTavish will compair to these. The description of the last sounds a bit like the one for the McAllister but describes a wider toe area. Would love some advice.
