    Ask & Answer
Dalton Wingtip Dress Boots with Dainite Rubber Sole is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 44.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Three pair flawed! I have now received my third pair of these boots - all with the same flaw! It is clear that the left boot in all three pair was constructed with the inner (I believe cork) sole installed in two pieces. Running across the boot just at the front of the balls of the foot is a ridge/joint/seam that feels like one is standing on a wire or small cable. This can hardly be felt with the hand and requires actually standing in the shoe. My grandson has the same size foot (10.5 B) and also felt the seam as soon as he stood in it. The right boot in all three pairs was perfect. The second pair MAY have been the same pair as the first but, since I marked the second pair before returning them, I know that the third pair was a different pair. The customer service agents have all been very helpful and sympathetic but apparently have no contact or control over the factory or warehouse.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Decent Boot... Poor Quality for 1sts I bought these boots because I deseperately needed a pair for an upcoming trip. This is my 20-something pair of AE shoes or boots. I have a decent mix of first and seconds quality shoes that I have bought from them. These were first quality that I bought. Unfortunately they did not arrive that way. They had obviously been tried on before. There were scuffs, discolorations, and gouges in the leather. I’ve bought many 2nds quality shoes in better shape than this. I couldn’t believe they were trying to pass these off as 1st quality. I called to exchange, but was told they were out of my size and that my only choice was to return them, or just suck it up and keep the pair I was sent. I needed the boots and was hoping to exchange, but due to the circumstances, I was forced to keep them. Very unhappy with this. It’s no secret that Allen Edmonds is under new ownership, and if this is how they plan on running the company, they have just lost a customer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dalton Love the boots. Love the sole and the look. They do require a break in which other AE shoes have not.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shoe! Love the look and feel of the shoes. Wish they would make more colors with dainite sole.

Would Allen Edmonds consider making boots with safety toes?

Sometimes I need to wear safety toed shoes when in the plant and I would like some nice boots I could wear to the office and on the plant floor.

What style socks should you wear with these boots? Thin dress socks or thick boot socks?

Trying to get the proper size. They feel really loose in dress socks and fit ok with thick Thorlo boot socks.
    Asked by: Nathan
For me my style is always dress socks in dress shoes. Also these are not the same as a typical work boot the fit is like a dress shoe and in order to keep from being to tight I wear dress socks .

Can I get a pair of these boots without the stylization?

I want to purchase these boots and I am not fond of the holes/stylization. Is there a way I can order them without it?
    Asked by: Sean89
We do not offer customization of this nature. We recommend taking a look at the following styles with minimal or no perfing details: First Avenue, Higgins Mill, Dundee, or Fifth Street. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

    Dalton or First Avenue boots?

Are there substantial differences between the Dalton and the First Avenue in wet/cold weather? I'm in the Midwest and my boots take a beating over the next 6 months. I actually just returned a Higgins Mill boot because unfortunately the style was too casual. At least I did not think it paired well with a suit. I like the First Avenue style a bit more but am wondering if the Dainite rubber sole is worth the trade off. I know I can do the First Ave in Dainite but not in black. Thoughts? Thanks very much, I appreciate the consideration.
    Asked by: Anonymous
We use the same constructions methods on both the Dalton and the First Avenue, the difference will be the fit and the design (wingtip vs captoe). The Dalton is made on the 511 last which is slightly rounder toe than the First Avenue made on the 201 last and has a more chiseled look. Rubber soles tend to hold up better than leather soles on wet ground, keep in mind however neither is considered to be waterproof. We suggest wearing SWIMS if there are any concerns about weather conditions, and thicker boot socks to protect better against colder temperatures. Ultimately, both styles are dress boots and can be paired with a suit, so the selection comes down to personal preference. We hope that helps, feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

    Do these boots run large?

I wear a 10.5E on the 65 last shoes and was wondering if I should "step down" with these boots.
    Asked by: Chitown
I tried to step down and had to return them. I ordered the same size as my 65 lasts which is 11 tripple E and they fir perfect for me. I wear the same style of socks and trying to wear thicker socks is uncomfortable for me.
