Dalton Wingtip Dress Boots is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 391.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful boots, but I wish AE had better QC The Dalton boots from Allen Edmonds are incredibly beautiful. The materials used like the Shell Cordovan from Horween and the JR soles are top notch. One can argue that they’re a masterpiece of a boot. What I love the most about these boots are their level or versatility. You can dress them up for business meetings or wear them causally on Fridays with a jean jacket. Nothing beats the compliments you receive from spectators! However, there is a major draw back. Allen Edmonds’ biggest downfall is their QC. I cannot emphasize enough how important quality control is to us, especially when paying top dollars for shoes. I do not want to see my favorite dress shoe brand declining in quality. I gave Quality a 4/5 rating simply because I had to return these boots and order another pair because of quality control issues. Customer Service was absolutely the best and eased the return process, so no complaints there. But I think as consumers we should get our products right the first time! Unlike me, there’s people out there without any tolerance for this and will easily make the change to other shoe makers. I love Allen Edmonds and own multiple shoes from them. I know when done right, their shoes are a work of art that will last you a long time! So please AE, make quality control your number one priority, at least for your faithful enthusiasts!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Last AE purchase for me....poor quality is now the norm I'd like to preface this review by stating that I am a huge fan of AE going back 20+ years. AE shoes make up the bulk of my collection, and I own quite a few pairs, many in multiple colors. I want to AE to do well, but the quality issues that I experienced with this order were mind boggling...and.....after exchanging the boots 3 times, they were never able to get it right. I ordered a pair of the SC daltons a few months back...the 1st pair that they sent me were literally two different shade of color...and not in a "variation between shells" kind of way...but in a way that was really puzzling. How many people saw this pair through the QC process? How were they sent to customers as firsts? I returned the pair, explaining the above. The co sent out another pair. While the second pair were color matched...they were clearly seconds. The medallions were mismatched, one shoe was visibly narrower than the other, and they had also been tried on a number of times. third time is a charm, right? Not so much. third pair came and had issues as well with coloring. going back. Had i purchased seconds (which I've done before!) many of the above issues would be OK. when purchasing a pair of SC boots, at the price point of these, one would at least hope that AE would have tighter QC before shipping these out? Regardless, this is my last ae purchase. Hopefully this is not a symptom of a new corporate (PE) owner, and a shift in production to overseas. If the new owners focused as much on the quality as they did on a snazzy new marketing and branding campaign, perhaps long time loyal customers would still be able to expect the quality that AE had been known for for many many years. Sadly, this is not the case today, and it's a real shame. One area of note--thankfully, despite the change in corporate focus, allen edmonds customer service team remains as friendly and helpful as ever.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Uncomfortable Heel Seam I was disappointed in these boots, but continued to wear them in hopes that the pain points would subside with break-in based on the high cost. The primary issue is the heel lining. For some reason, the design has the seam of the leather lining running vertically directly up the center of the heal which creates a rubbing point even when the boot is tied tightly. I have never seen another boot with the seam made this way. I had to tape an insert in the back of the heal to prevent blisters. I typically wear size 11D, and this toe box is narrower than the description indicates and never broke in well after a couple years. They look nice, but I would not recommend the for the price.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Beautiful boots but... I was so excited to get these boots so I wore them right away. I should have looked them over first. The left boot the cordovan doesn’t look like it was flat when they stitched it. The cordovan with the brogues on the upper is not flat and folds out. I wore these first so I cannot send back, but I feel these should have been seconds, especially for the most expensive shoe/boot Allen Edmonds sells. I would still recommend them, but would advise that you look them over before you wear them.

Can’t afford a Cordovan belt. What other belt pairings do you recommend?

    Asked by: Joe
We suggest the Manistee Belt or Midland Ave in Oxblood. It is not the exact shade but it will complement it nicely. Feel free to contact us again if you have additional questions!

What size Dalton Wingtip Dress Boot would likely be a good fit for me given that I currently wear a size 10.5 D Bartlett

Can you suggest any other boots that might be a better fit if the Dalton boots are not.
    Asked by: RKU
I'm also a 10.5 D. I purchased a size 11D. They fit perfectly. I purchased them from a brick and mortar store. In Austin Tx.

Will oxblood belt go with burgundy cordovan?

    Asked by: Anonymous
Oxblood is lighter than Burgundy Cordovan and will not coordinate well. We recommend pairing the boots with the Cordovan Tab Belt in Burgundy. Feel free to contact us again if you have additional questions!

    How are they, comfort-wise?

Without naming competitor names, I've found other shell cordovan wingtip boots to feel like lead weights with no cushioning at all. I've always been impressed with AE comfort. How would you rate these?
    Asked by: Ogre202
Personally I think they are very comfortable. They would be better thought of a tall shoe than a typicale boot.

Cordovan in walnut or tan color?

Do you offer these boots in a lighter color like walnut or tan? I think the cordovan shoes should be offered in this color. These boots and cordovan leather is perfect but the color is off. You will not find many professionals under 40 who will wear dark shoes anymore. Most Wear walnut or tan. I only wear dark shoes for very conservative business functions, formals, or funerals.
    Asked by: Joe37
Thank you for your inquiry and comments. The Dalton in Shell Cordovan is currently only offered in Burgundy. We offer the Dalton in calfskin in Walnut. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.
