Higgins Mill Boot with Tumbled Leather is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Questionable I purchased a 10E after reading reviews indicating the boots fit wide, my nornal size EE or EEE, the boots I received the 10E was too wide, plus a problem with the finish on the boots didn't match, one boot had a smooth finish while the other didn't. They were returned and thanks to customer service I received a replacement pair of boots with minimum flaws, and I emphasize minimum flaws. It appears AE quality control has issues and the matter is not being resolved and I speak of this from past AE purchase experiences of the same issues of bad products sent to customers creating other issues of inconvenience for the customer. The positive of all is good customer service representatives that are helpful, if only quality control was that good.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from QA lacking The tumbled leather uppers did not match whatsoever. One had tumbled leather while the other boot had smooth leather upper. one of boots even looked to have a tumbled leather lower....didnt match the other. Looked like a totally different matching boots. Cant imagine how anyone doing inspection would think these boots matched...not even close. disappointed in EA.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from didn't turn out great Couple years ago I purchased the Black CXL Higgins. LOVED IT! one of my favorite boots that I wear 2 -3 times a week minimum and I own many other boots of different types and manufacturers. However, I purchased a 2nds brown tumbled leather Higgins in 11/18. I wanted to save a few bucks over the Brown CXL that I really wanted but were not available in my size. I wear it approximately once every two weeks and by 3/19 the heels are separating from the sole. My understanding was that 2nds were only blemishes and not otherwise likely to break down. I sent customer service an email and no response as of yet. Should have spent the extra few bucks, don't feel factory seconds have same durability.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Extremely short break-in period, comfortable This is the first pair of quality boots I've purchased. I'm both very happy and slightly disappointed. I've owned my pair of Tumbled Leather Higgins Mill boots in brown for 5 months now. I wear them at least 4 times a week, 8 hour days, business casual (chinos+button-ups). Pros: -Break-in period was very short (a couple of days) -These boots are very comfortable. I've walked to work several times within the first few weeks and my feet weren't sore at all (sidewalk/concrete, 2 miles one-way) -With cedar shoe trees my boots haven't smelled at all and I wear them every other day at work -They've held up well. They do scuff kind of easily but I think that's to be expected with boots? Take that with a grain of salt due to my short experience with these Cons: -Part of both boots began to fall apart almost immediately. Specifically (forgive my terminology if it's incorrect): where the upper meets the vamp, there's a small strip of leather folded over the edge of the upper and then the upper is sewn to the vamp. Well, the stitching on that decorative piece of leather, that's curled around the edge of the upper, began to come undone literally within the first few days of wearing the boots. And I wear my boots on carpet in an office, it's not like I'm stressing them every day with weather and the elements. I ended up taking them to a cobbler and having him stitch the leather back in place. It doesn't look as nice as when they were brand new but it's better because there isn't frayed thread along the vamp edge. If I pay over $400 for a pair of boots or shoes, I expect a higher quality than this. This is the only reason I said I wouldn't recommend these boots to a friend. -The tongue on my right boot continually slides off to the side so my laces are resting on my sock. I saw someone else mention this too. I had a cobbler stitch one side of each tongue to the outside upper (respectively), so my tongues both stay in place now. I was very careful to place my tongue directly in the middle and lace them up correctly when I first purchased the boots, but it still happened until I had the tongue stitched in place. -Lastly, this may have something to do with my gait, but my right boot lets out a little "poof" of air sound when I place my weight on it while walking Those two main cons aside, everything else has been great. I haven't received any compliments about my boots but I think that's because they're more on the plain side (to the average bystander). I think wingtips or a fancier boot might gain more compliments. But I really like the boots. Overall I don't regret buying them because I know I'll still have them in ten years. Personally I'd give them a 4/5 due to the stitching flaw.

do they have a removable insole for orthotics

    Asked by: Anonymous

Do these boots have a metal shank? Will I be able to wear them through a metal detector?

My job requires me to go in and out of secure areas routinely. I would like a boot that can traverse the security checkpoints without setting off metal detectors.
    Asked by: Zachery
At Allen Edmonds we do not use metal shanks on our welted styles, including the Higgins Mill boots. However, as airport security expands their screening technology and restrictions, they may still detect the metal eyelets or the metal nails we use to hold the heels together in most of our shoes. I like my Long Banch brown boots, but want a more dressy boot - the Higgins Mill black. Will the leather be as soft and will the tow box be as large.

    I wear 13E
    Asked by: John
The feel of the leather is similar. With that said, leather that has been broken in overtime will be softer than a brand new pair. We suggest trying it to see how you like it. The Higgins MIll has a Relaxed Fit. The relaxed fit has added space in the toe box. This extra room allows for thicker socks and foot expansion that occurs at the end of the day or during a long flight. What leather tannery is this from?

"Grained leather" isn't descriptive enough. Is this Horween? Or a lower quality tannery?
    Asked by: ProudlyMadeinUSA
Thank you for reaching out to us. Horween is only used for our cordovan styles. We import our leathers from multiple companies. However, the Higgins Mill is made from high quality full grain leather. If you have any additional questions feel free to contact us 1-877-817-7615 or eservice@allenedmonds.com
