Strand Cap-Toe Oxford with Dainite Rubber Sole is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 52.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Please bring back the dark brown color! Beautiful looking & versatile shoe; the dainite sole is perfect for wet conditions and needs no break in time. Unfortunately I brought a pair in dark brown on clearance and needed a different size, but discovered the color is no longer available. I went to an Allen Edmonds store and found that my size for this shoe should have been 9.5E, but I had purchased a 10D online which was my usual Brannock size. The salesperson did a great job researching other stores and the factory, but that size was sold out. The new coffee color is too medium brown for my taste and looks flat, while the dark brown was rich & had a subtle burnish and depth.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top Quality Dress Shoes This is my first pair of AE shoes and so far, I am very impressed. I chose the Strand cap toe oxfords in the rich, dark brown. They are a very handsome pair of shoes, well made, good quality leather. I opted for the Dianite rubber sole so I can walk to and from my car on wet or snowy pavement without worrying about slipping or having the leather soles getting soaked and wearing out quicker than they should. I wear them about twice a week for work and they pair well slacks or a suit. At $425 the price point was a bit high for my budget, so I waited and bought these on sale. Knowing that they were made by hand by American craftsmen with the high-quality materials, I am hoping to wear these shoes for many years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AE produces excellent dress shoes AE produces quality dress shoes covering leather sole, and rubber sole which I like rubber sole a little bit better giving a longer wear. I wish AE offers rubber sole on shell cordovan leather as well in near future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Shoes Another excellent pair of AE shoes. The leather and stitching are flawless, and the rich dark-chocolate brown color is very attractive. The size is very consistent with my other AE shoes made on the 65 last, and these fit my long, narrow feet very comfortably. The Dainite sole is comfortable and has good grip on wet surfaces. The fact I got these at a close-out sales price is even better.

If you buy a pair of Strands with Dainite rubber soles, is it possible to eventually have them resoled/ recrafted with traditional leather soles?

    Asked by: Anonymous
It's best to ask AE via the online chat. Brett there seems very knowledgeable about this type of questions.

    Is the insole removable?

I'm curious if this insole is removable. The LGA wingtip mentions "Removable, quality, heel-cup footbed to allow for custom inserts" but the Strand does not specify. I would be interested in adding orthotics or Superfeet inserts.
    Asked by: 3gr3gious
Nope, I would not try to add Supperfeet insoles to Strands, they would not fit.

Is the Dainite sole a lot more "flexible" than the leather sole? If so, will creases develop more easily (and faster)?

    Asked by: Will17
I own two pairs of AE with Dainite soles. What I found was that Dainite is initially stiffer. I hand bend the front of the soles before wearing to speed up the process. However, the Dainite material helps the uppers and the toe box maintain it's shape much better than leather soles. Dainite is more durable than leather soles. And, Dainite is less slippery than leather and can be worn in wet weather without damaging the soles.

What is the weight of this shoe?

    Asked by: Seagull4
Allen Edmonds dress shoes generally weigh between 3 and 4 lbs. when shipped. Shoe weight will vary depending on the size and width of a shoe; however, these variations will be fairly insignificant. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

    Which is the best sole

It appears there are three soles for the Strand: leather, tap, and rubber. Which is the most comfortable? What is the intended use for the rubber sole strand? Does the rubber sole Strand have a noticeable different appearance than the leather sole strand, while being worn with a suit?
    Asked by: Mel
Leather has the most traditional feel, as you might expect. The Dainite (rubber) sole will do you better, perhaps, if you spend a lot of time walking outdoors or in harsher conditions and you wish to preserve your soles; I suspect they'll better help if you needed to make a full-on sprint with the extra grip. No experience with the tap sole, so I cannot comment on those.

Is the dainite rubber sole more comfortable than than the leather sole? It's because I find the leather sole to be quite uncomfortable.

    Asked by: JR
I think it is. It's a little more flexible from the start, and there really isn't any break-in period. Plus it gives a bit more cushion than a leather sole. Thumbs up from me.
