    Fit

    Relaxed Fit

The relaxed fit has added space in the toe box. This extra room allows for thicker socks and foot expansion that occurs at the end of the day or during a long flight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Perfect Waffle Stomper Great boot! Sturdy and solid, but light on the foot. Thoroughly waterproof. Excellent for hiking not only in The Sierra but also along Pt. Reyes ocean shore. Easy on and off. Unbelievably comfortable for the whole day. I have to be careful to swap them out every now. and then, because I would wear them every day. I've even gotten unsolicited comments on how handsome they are! One of the best items I've gotten from Allen Edmonds, and I am a long-time customer. Highly recommended..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Initial reaction - what a great looking comfortable boot I had seen this boot as being available for some time now and I was attracted to it. When I received a $50 coupon from AE I decided to buy myself a Christmas present. While I have not worn these in snow or rain as yet, or done any hiking in them, my initial impression of these is quite good. They are remarkably comfortable right out of the box, they fit well with good toe room, and go on and off quite nicely, the lacing works well. The German leather is flawless - these boots look like a work of art. I don't believe these would prove to be a good hiking boot - they are very much lighter than any of the many pairs of traditional hiking boot that I've ever owned (mostly Danner and Merrel). The soles are rather thick with deep lugs. I don't believe there's a shank of any kind in these - they are 360 degree welt construction. These seem to me to be more in the vein of a very nice looking lightweight boot with the appearance of a heavy duty hiking boot. I'll look really cool around town when it snows and hopefully not be slipping or sliding. I do wonder how well the lightweight soles will wear - they are not Vibram. I would have liked another six inches on the lace length. The boots came with individual cloth bags for each boot. To answer a question the tongues are gusseted up to the speedhooks, about half the length of the tongue. I usually find it necessary to center the tongue on my foot as I lace up, otherwise the tongue tends to slip to the side a bit. So, they're easy to get on and off but they are not "fully gusseted" to the top of the tongue. I'd say there's about an inch and a half of water intrusion protection (measured vertically from the sole) over what you'd get with a non-gusseted tongue. I wouldn't go wading across any mountain streams in these - they are weatherproof not waterproof. I'll follow up on this review after I put some wear into these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light and extremely comfortable Over the past 30 years Ive been wearing Allen Edmonds shoes exclusively except for sneakers and hiking/camping shoes. The quality and comfort of almost all of the Allen Edmonds dress and casual shoes I’ve worn over the years rate a 9 out of 10 (I almost never give a 10 rating). Being an avid outdoorsman I’ve been searching for years for the same quality and comfort in a hiking/camping boot/shoe. I’ve finally found it in the Aspen Hiker. It’s light and incredibly comfortable. I’m not sure that they’ll be good for my summertime outdoor activities but I expect that they be awesome for late fall/winter/early springtime. Thanks Allen Edmonds.

    Is the tongue fully gusseted?

    Asked by: Rob

    Is the tongue gussetted?

    Asked by: Robert
The tongue is gusseted up to the speed hooks - about halfway up the tongue. As a consequence, the boots are easy to put on / take off, there's some protection from water intrusion, and the tongue is somewhat kept centered, but I wouldn't go walking through any mountain streams in these. Gusset seals the boot about an inch and a half vertically above the base of the tongue. So I'd guess you'd say these are "gusseted" but not "fully gusseted".
