    Care Instructions

Cordovan leather requires different care than calfskin due to its unique properties. Brush and wipe regularly and apply cream occasionally to protect the leather and maintain its rich color.

    Regular Maintenance:

Regularly, brush the leather with our Horsehair Shine Brush or wipe with our Cotton Flannel Polishing Cloth.

To Protect and Restore Color, Follow These Steps:

STEP 1: Wipe your shoe down with a damp cloth and allow to dry.

STEP 2: Using your Horsehair Dauber, apply a small amount of Cordovan cream in a circular motion.

STEP 3: While the cream is still slightly wet, take our Horsehair Shine Brush and brush back and forth, heating the cream and leather. This allows the natural oils to move to the surface to bring out the leather's natural shine.

STEP 4: Next, use the soft side of our Cotton Flannel Polishing Cloth to buff the shoe until the surface is no longer tacky. Often, some excess cream will transfer onto the cloth, which is normal.

STEP 5: Take our Heel Dressing applicator and press against the edge of the heel and sole.

    Relaxed Fit

Most people consider a “classic” fit to be a “standard” fit. This fit more closely aligns with the natural shape of your feet.

Higgins Mill Boot with Shell Cordovan Leather is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from No gussetted tongue on a boot Ordered Cordovan boots online. Was disappointed the tongue was not gussetted. I live in a rural area, so one of the reasons I prefer boots is to keep dirt and debris out of my shoes. My other two pair of Allen Edmonds, a Dalton in cordovan; and a captoe both come with gussetted tongues, and they are more of a dress boot with a leather or partial leather soles.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice boot but not as pictured The boot pictured has a natural welt but the boot I received has a dark brown welt. The cordovan leather is also burnished (i.e. the toe is dyed a slightly darker shade of brown). Otherwise the boot is quite nice and is well-constructed, with fewer of the QC issues seen on a lot of new AE shows nowadays. Aesthetic details aside, for the sale price the boot was an excellent value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Other worldly boots, Don't sleep on shell cordovan! If you do not own a pair of Higgins Mills in shell cordovan, do a few google searches. These are lifetime boots that will glow every wear. Be sure of your fit with HMs before you spring for shell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding boot Normally I wear a 9D but since my foot is a little bit wider I ordered a 9 1/2 D. It was too narrow therefore I replaced it with a 9E, which was perfect. Beautiful classic boot, exceptionally made with outstanding shell cordovan. And as far as I know they’re the only company that makes this boot in brown.

    Picture accuracy

Sometimes with the new website the pictures don't always match the written description of the features that follows so I wanted to confirm the following. The Burgundy includes a black welt/edge, while the brown includes the contrasting "blonde" welt/edge present on the standard CXL HMs, and both include double danite as the outsole as opposed to double JR. Thanks very much for this clarification.

I ordered the brown model and it has a dark brown welt and not the natural welt pictured. I thought about returning it for this reason but I actually rather like the look for dressier occasions so I decided to keep the pair.
