    Care Instructions

STEP 2: Once the material has dried, spray our Water Protector over the surface of the shoes. Apply regularly between cleanings.

    Relaxed Fit

The relaxed fit has added space in the toe box. This extra room allows for thicker socks and foot expansion that occurs at the end of the day or during a long flight.

    Ask & Answer
Surrey Cap-Toe Boot is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 36.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor craftsmanship Like others have stated QC issues/poor craftsmanship. I will be returning. I love the look and leather, but the off center stitching and the lumpy bumpies along the seem in the toe cap front is too much for me to ignore. There was also some sticky goop on the side of one boot which when remove left color discoloration and the pen marks can be seen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from quality and comfort I love these boots they are so comfortable and I love the feel of the leather..I own 7 pairs of Allen Edmonds and this pair is in my top three favorites..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Holds Up In Alaska I'm a teacher in Alaska and wanted a boot that I could wear all year long, in and out of work. The weatherproofing has held up well and I haven't had wet feet once during winter. Wearing wool socks kept my feet warm in steady -20 temps. I will update after breakup season when things get really slushy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Love the Style, Hate the Craftsmanship This is the second pair of Allen Edmond boots I've encountered that have been ruined by poor quality control. As I understand it, the crafting of these shoes is not done in the USA, which is fine with me, except the craftsmanship is absolutely horrible. I ordered at least 4 different pairs of these boots in the various colors trying to find some that were of reasonable quality, but was extremely disappointed every time. I don't consider myself a shoe snob, but when stitching is clearly off center, the shoe wobbles when placed on a flat surface, there are very noticeable silver pen marks where the craftsman drew guidelines, the leather inner and outer don't line up... it's really absurd. I want to own a pair of these boots and love them and wear them and live in them constantly, but there is no way I would be happy with any of the seriously poorly made products I was sent. I'm used to the difficult part of shoe shopping being finding a style and fit that work for me, not actually obtaining a version of the product that isn't noticeably poorly made. If Allen Edmonds ever makes a cap toe boot of decent quality, I will be the first in line to purchase. I am seriously frustrated that I have thus far been unable to obtain any. I am going out of the country on vacation and I wanted a pair of comfortable, weather-resistant boots to walk around in, but now I don't know what I am going to do. I am tired of playing this game of ordering a pair, waiting 5 days, opening the box to find insultingly obvious defects, and then sending them back. I never would have thought I would have to do this for a $400+ pair of shoes. I'm done with Allen Edmonds for the time being, so I suppose I'm stuck with the old uncomfortable pair of boots I already own. I'm seriously disappointed by this whole process.

Care Instruction are for Suede, but shoe is leather. Look at photo. Why?

Why are the care instructions for a Suede or Nubuck shoe, when the shoe is leather as the photo clearly shows? I have the tan version and want to make sure the care instructions are correct. Won't suede or nubuck maintenance scratch up the leather, Horween Sonoma Leather. It looks and feels like soft baseball glove leather.
    Asked by: Lee
While suede care may not damage your smooth leather, it just isn't necessary to apply such a "rough" care style to fine leather. Being your footwear is typical smooth leather, i.e. Horween CXL or Fine European, you are far better off cleaning such leather with saddle soap and a dauber brush. Then follow up with a leather conditioner such as Saphir Renoveteur and brush with a horse hair boot brush and you are good to go. If you really want to further protect and/or shine it you could follow up the conditioner with a colored cream (also Saphir), then the same boot brush and finally a very light coat of neutral wax and polish it in with water but no brush. Youtube is your friend in this case. Hope it helps.

I have the surrey cap toe and it fits well. Which other boots are build on the same last or form?

    Asked by: Wkk
If you go to Allen and use their filters you can find all the welted 1757 last footwear but of note, the Higgins Mill is built on this same last.

    Insole material

On Youtube, I saw two short videos about the Surrey line that state that the boots all have padded Poron insoles. However, on the website here, it just says that there is the normal cork insole. Which is correct? Thanks.
    Asked by: Peter
The Surrey Cap Toe is fully leather lined, with the standard cork insole.

If these boots are made in Dominican Republic, is that also where they are recrafted?

Many of the recent reviews mention problems with quality of construction and I'm curious to know if that would potentially extend to recrafting process.
    Asked by: RJ
Our Recrafting facilities are located in Port Washington, Wisconsin. All Recrafting orders go to this facility. Can I use leather lotion on the black Surrey?

In the “care” section, it doesn’t state if we can use your leather lotion on them. If so, when in the process would you recommend doing it? Thanks!
    Asked by: JPJerome
As long as you have the smooth leather version and not the suede then yes, leather lotion is not only approved but recommended. I also hit my leather footwear with saddle soap and a dauber brush and follow up with a conditioner/lotion and buff with horse hair brush.

    Care for boots

Product description says that the tan/black models use a different leather than the brown model. What are care instructions for the brown nubuck boots in particular? Do you recommend a suede/nubuck cleaning system or something else?
    Asked by: Nick
Use a stiff brush on Nubuck and do it regularly. Period. There are stain erasers and Nubuck cleaners on the market but if you don’t use them properly, you can just make things worse. Why take the chance?
