Dalton Cordovan Dress Boots is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 351.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strikingly Beautiful Boot I pondered the purchase of the Dalton boot for a while. Based on past experience, I’ve learned I get best results when I actually go to a store where I can get professional advice, a proper fitting and a feel of a shoe. Then, if I want to purchase it online, I know exactly what fits properly. Since I did not have anything close to the Dalton, I traveled to the St. Louis store to see the boot and get fitted. The store manager, Cortney, was very helpful in fitting the boot and answering questions. As I looked at the various colors, I was struck by the beauty of the shell cordovan version of this boot. It was simple, elegant, formal, informal, and different than the other boots in this line. Although it costs more, I decided to purchase it. Cortney ordered one in my size. When I received the boot, I did not regret for one moment the higher cost. It was strikingly beautiful. I expected the boot to take a while to break in. I was prepared for that, as the leather is harder. I wore the boots a number of times. I was disappointed over time how the boot felt, as the right boot seemed tighter. I just could not continue to wear to boot due to the discomfort and how it was affecting my right foot. I took the boot back to the St. Louis store and met with Cortney. Again, she was helpful and offered to stretch the boot and return it to me. I wore the stretched boot for a little while. Again, I concluded I could not continue to wear the boot due to the tightness. I visited the store again and Cortney offered to send me a new pair, a half size larger. The new pair fits very well. I was immediately happy with it. Today, I experienced something with the boot I had not felt before. The inside of the boot felt as if it had finally “broke”. It felt soft, warm, and supple. This was different than the hardness I had felt before. I’m very pleased with the look and feel of this boot, and am proud to wear it. I have also ordered the matching shell cordovan belt. I appreciate Cortney’s help in resolving my sizing problem. As a result, I’ve purchased a number of other shoes from her store.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Wish I could say it has been a good experience. So far I have had to purchase 8 (8!) pairs of the oxblood Dalton boot because the craftmanship has been mediocre at best. Each boot has arrived with some sort of defect (weird creases and bumps, discoloration, noticeable black markings, scuffs on the toe) that are unacceptable given the price. I have kept 1 left boot and still waiting for a good right one to arrive to complete my pair and wear them outside. I wonder if it will arrive before Spring time... It's a really nice boot though and that's why I remain dedicated to finding a quality pair. I really suggest Allen Edmunds would implement some type of quality control process before a pair of boots are shipped out. Anyone with decent vision would have seen these cosmetic defects.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Keeps arriving damaged! I have been on a binge lately and purchased an embarrassing number of EA shoes on line. Fortunately I live near one of their stores because almost every pair I order has to be returned because they are damaged or made poorly. Bad scuffs, mismatched leather, nylon threads poking through causing sores, stains. This pair I returned because the leather arrived misshapen. I returned it to the store and the second pair was also bad. I just gave up and told them to refund my money. The quality control at the factory is beyond inadequate. Very frustrating. The does themselves are beautiful if they were undamaged.

What size Dalton Wingtip Dress Boot would likely be a good fit for me given that I currently wear a size 10.5 D Bartlett

Can you suggest any other boots that might be a better fit if the Dalton boots are not.
    Asked by: RKU
Thank you for your inquiry. Because each style can fit differently based on the contours of your feet, it’s difficult to recommend a size via this channel and guarantee a proper fit. Typically, we recommend trying the same size you usually wear and judging the fit based on how comfortable you feel in the shoes. If possible, we’d love to have you visit an Allen Edmonds retail store or one of our retail partners for a professional fitting. Our associates are trained to help you find the right fit for the various lasts and styles we offer. Also, keep in mind that products purchased on AllenEdmonds.com may be returned within 90 days, as long as the item is unworn and accompanied by the packing slip (we advise trying the shoes on a carpeted surface to keep them in returnable condition). Feel free to contact us again if you have additional questions!

Will oxblood belt go with burgundy cordovan?

    Asked by: Anonymous
Oxblood is lighter than Burgundy Cordovan and will not coordinate well. We recommend pairing the boots with the Cordovan Tab Belt in Burgundy. Feel free to contact us again if you have additional questions!

    How are they, comfort-wise?

Without naming competitor names, I've found other shell cordovan wingtip boots to feel like lead weights with no cushioning at all. I've always been impressed with AE comfort. How would you rate these?
    Asked by: Ogre202
Thank you for reaching out to us. We appreciate your interest in our shoes. Our shoes use a cork inlay, this ensures that the shoes will perfectly form to your feet to provide the most comfort possible.

Cordovan in walnut or tan color?

Do you offer these boots in a lighter color like walnut or tan? I think the cordovan shoes should be offered in this color. These boots and cordovan leather is perfect but the color is off. You will not find many professionals under 40 who will wear dark shoes anymore. Most Wear walnut or tan. I only wear dark shoes for very conservative business functions, formals, or funerals.

    Size

How does a 9d size in McNeil 2.0 compare to the Dalton boot?
    Asked by: Joseph
The Macneil 2.0 is constructed on the 97 Last, which is the best fit for the average foot. The 97 last is one of Allen Edmonds early lasts, and has a soft, slightly pointed toe. It lays flatter in the toe area for a classic American look. The Dalton is constructed on the 511 Last, and this last is similar to the 97 last from heel to the ball of the foot, yet with a more rounded, fuller fitting toe. The 511 last is used in many of our boots because of the added room in the toe box. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.
