Higgins Mill Boot with Chromexcel Leather is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 79.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Best boot, but worst salesman Bought this in downtown Manhattan Allen Edmonds at the brookfiels Place. Salesman recommended for me to use the brown carnuba wax polish. Long story short. It ended up ruining the boot. DO NOT USE A WAX BASED POLISH. It will dry and crack the boot color in a very ugly way. Ive tried everything to get it off. It will never look the same. I dont even wear them anymore. Such a shame. Its extremely comfortable. I use it when im working around the house or backyard. The salesman should have known better. Especially when i spent 700$ on shoes and accessories in one visit.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice looking, but not the best wearing I was provided a discount for a pair of Higgins boots as a result of AE dropping the ball on two separate orders. The customer service representative I spoke with at the beginning was very good and I was told part of the discount offered to me would need to be applied after I received the boots. It took a while to receive them, and the boots did not fit correctly. After putting in for an exchange, I called to follow up. This time the service representative kept sighing very heavily into the phone, grumbling, and saying phrases like "I don't know what else you want me to do" after I explained the situation clearly. At the end of the phone call, a supervisor handled the adjustment. After receiving my boots, I put them into service. They looked great, but after some wear I'm disappointed with the QC. On the left foot, the tongue of the boot flops to the side immediately after lacing. I have tried several things to prevent this with no luck. On the right boot, the seam at the back is pretty harsh. The seam digs into my heel when driving and at times when walking. Overall I would have probably liked the Normandy boots better, but was not able to try them since only one store carries AE in my area. I would advise anyone looking at purchasing a pair to try them on in person before purchase.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beautiful shoes but quality issues I have been an Allen Edmonds customer for many years. I purchased a pair of Higgins Mill Chromexcel boots. The boots themselves were beautiful. Leather is great and the fit was solid. However, upon inspection, I noticed a few blemishes such as “dents in the toe” and what looks like a water stain on the inside of the tongue. I called customer service mentioned the issue, sent pictures and ordered two more pairs of boots (order number 7095326). When the two new pairs arrived, I noticed right away they were in different boxes (apparently the old boxes which is surprising given the fact that my previous order came in the new packaging). One of the boxes was damaged and patched-up with Scotch tape. I was very surprised to see this given the quality and craftsmanship of Allen Edmonds shoes and packaging that I have gotten so accustomed to over the years. I have never experienced this before and it made me immediately question whether or not I received factory seconds. When I compared the three boots, I noticed a few other differences. The first boot I ordered had different branding on the inner sole (new branding) while the two pairs in the older boxes had older branding. The first boot’s leather was also darker, softer and had the “new boot smell” compared to the other pairs. Finally - the first boot I ordered had a “Horween leather” tag on the laces whereas the other pairs didn’t (picture attached). I ended up keeping the original pair and living with the small blemishes. As I mentioned, the shoes are beautiful. However, the process of ordering, etc. was fairly annoying and not something I am used to with Allen Edmonds.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Look nice if you don't look too closely. These boots are comfortable and look nice if you don't look too closely. I can believe they were inspired by early loggers because when mine arrived they looked as if a logger had been wearing them to work. They had scratches, scuffs, dents, and creases over the entire surface of both boots. These boots were NOT seconds. If I had paid full price I would be returning. Since I paid a sale price, I will reluctantly keep them. Rather disappointed considering AE reputation. Will not purchase the "Rangers" I had intended to buy!

What is the recommended sizing compared to sneakers? Are they true to size or should I order 1/2-full size down?

    Asked by: Chris
The boots run true to size, as do the sneakers. Not sure if i will do business with this company anymore, do to a problem with replacing a pair of deffective shoelaces. Too petty for me.

    What kind of insole? Poron?

    Asked by: Carlos
Its a leather insole. And leather lined. It is extremely comfortable and soft. Feels luxurious for a boot. Get them while they are on sale. The only thing you need to take care of em is a big brush and AE leather lotion. DO NOT USE A WAX BASED POLISH. Saphir greasy leather cream in neutral works fine too. Source: hours and hours of research and experience with these shoes.

Can these shoes be worn in the rain and snow?

I know that the sole will be fine since it is waterproof but is the leather upper also waterproof/resistant. If so how do you recommend maintaining that water resistance?
    Asked by: Anonymous
I wouldn’t recommend getting them too wet. I would say the care of the leather should be similar to your leather dress shoes.

Can these boots be worn in inclement weather?

Example rain and snow? What would be the appropriate method for maintenance if they were worn for such purpose?
    Asked by: LuxLemon
Chromexcel leather can handle wet conditions as it's heavily infused with oils that naturally repel water. It also features an all-weather Dainite rubber sole. Should you get caught in inclement weather conditions, we recommend wiping any water or salt off the leather with a soft cloth, letting them dry away from heat, and insert shoe trees. Apply Leather Lotion as needed. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

Can I order based on size in AE dress shoes?

How does the size of this boot compare to other Allen Edmonds products?
    Asked by: Anonymous
I found these boots true to AE dress shoe size. Please note, these boots have a wider toe box so that may affect fit, but I found them true to AE size.
