Badlands Comfort Shoe is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 269.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Really want to find a good pair; but, a lot of quality issues... I would probably love this shoe if I could find a decent pair. I ordered the black Badlands during the 2019 Rediscovery America sale, hoping to find a pair that I could wear with jeans and chinos. The first pair I received looked good initially; but, upon closer inspection, the left & right shoes appear to be made from two different types of leather. The right shoe has a moderate sheen while the left shoe has a noticeably duller sheen. While I'm tempted to keep this pair, I worry that the two shoes will only look more and more different over time. With that in mind, I ordered two more pairs hoping to find a good one. The first of the two new pairs looked fantastic and I thought would be a keeper. However, when I went to put them on, I discovered that the vamp was so tight that I almost couldn't get my foot into the right shoe. The left shoe fit fine, but the right shoe was way, way too tight across the vamp. This isn't a breaking in issue, there's something wrong with the construction of the shoe. The last pair had what I think is defined as loose grain. The leather is incredibly soft to the touch and feels very different than the other two pair. The fit is fine and the shoes have an identical finish; but, the leather feels very cheap and I fear these shoes will look horrible after just a few wearings. I'm now pondering whether or not I should try a fourth pair or give up and go for something else. I originally bought the Leeds along with the Badlands so I could compare them. I feel the Leeds is too formal for my needs. As previously earlier, the Badlands would be perfect if I could only find a decent pair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The product looks AND wears great The shoes...... I have both a black and brown pair, wear well with any business OR casual dress. The cobbler who does all my shoe work says again and again ".....Allen Edmunds is easy to work on because of the quality materials and workmanship..." I agree 100%. Also, I get comments now and then and am ask "...sir where did you get those shoes?" In particular the Badlands style has a very clean and classic look. They wear very well at the office too. I do think this style is over priced by $100 though. It might be smart also to have this particular style on sale more too.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fairly comfortable...finally. As a wearer of Allen Edmonds shoes for some time, I wanted to get a pair of shoes that would be a little less dressy than the Fifth Avenue and Strand pairs that I already own. I bought the Badlands Comfort Shoe online like I have purchased my others, ordering the same size as my others, in 11 D. When they came I discovered they were too big. I called Allen Edmonds to see what they would recommend, and the gentleman I spoke to said I should drop down a half size as they run slightly large. I sent the first pair back and reordered a 10 1/2 D, and they seemed to fit fine. So be aware...they run large, and I would suggest ordering a half size smaller than what you normally wear. Upon wearing the Badlands for the first time, I found them to be anything but comfortable. They were giving me blisters, and I ended up putting moleskin on a couple of areas of my feet to relieve the pain. I continued to wear them, on occasion, hoping to break them in. Finally, after several times wearing them swearing that these shoes can't really be Allen Edmonds shoes since my others are so comfortable, they started feeling fairly comfortable. Now, I will warn you. These shoes are much heavier than the Strand or Fifth Avenue dress shoes that I own. Those shoes fit my feet like a glove, and I hardly know that I'm wearing them as they are very comfortable. The Badlands feel like I have lead weights on my feet. OK, I'm exaggerating slightly, but seriously, these shoes are heavy, and I notice it quite a bit. It has to be the sole material that they use. Maybe they will last forever, but a lighter weight sole would make these shoes a lot more enjoyable in my opinion as I don't really care for the extra weight. So, to summarize: You may have to give them some time to break them in to reach an acceptable level of comfort, and they run large, so order a half size smaller than your regular size. And, be prepared for the extra weight.

    Strandmonk and Badlands size comparison

I own the strandmonk in 9e which is a 65 last. Would the badlands have a similar sizing since it’s built on the same 65 platform?

I have other Allen Edmonds shoes built on the 65 last, but with the Badlands, I had to drop down a half size to get the right fit.

Is the Badlands model friendly to the use of orthotic inserts?

    Asked by: Jim
The Badlands style is not designed with a removable insole to accommodate custom orthotics. We suggest visiting a local Allen Edmonds retail location as an associate will be able to assist you in finding the best size and width combination for you with the orthotics. I wear the Alumni in size 11 1/2 D. How similar is the fit of the Badlands?

    Asked by: CSW
The Alumnus was made on the 2321 last, which was known to have a wider appearance. The Badlands is made on the 65 last, which was made for a narrow look. At Allen Edmonds, we believe the right fit is vitally important. If you are a first-time Allen Edmonds customer, we recommend a professional fitting by an Allen Edmonds associate at your nearest retail location or an authorized Allen Edmonds dealer.
