Most people consider a “classic” fit to be a “standard” fit. This fit more closely aligns with the natural shape of your feet.

Dalton Wingtip Dress Boots with Dainite Rubber Sole is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 43.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Decent Boot... Poor Quality for 1sts I bought these boots because I deseperately needed a pair for an upcoming trip. This is my 20-something pair of AE shoes or boots. I have a decent mix of first and seconds quality shoes that I have bought from them. These were first quality that I bought. Unfortunately they did not arrive that way. They had obviously been tried on before. There were scuffs, discolorations, and gouges in the leather. I’ve bought many 2nds quality shoes in better shape than this. I couldn’t believe they were trying to pass these off as 1st quality. I called to exchange, but was told they were out of my size and that my only choice was to return them, or just suck it up and keep the pair I was sent. I needed the boots and was hoping to exchange, but due to the circumstances, I was forced to keep them. Very unhappy with this. It’s no secret that Allen Edmonds is under new ownership, and if this is how they plan on running the company, they have just lost a customer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dalton Love the boots. Love the sole and the look. They do require a break in which other AE shoes have not.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shoe! Love the look and feel of the shoes. Wish they would make more colors with dainite sole.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome boots! Before I talk about the boots themselves, I need to first explain my experience in acquiring them. I'm from Hawaii, but I traveled to Manhattan, NYC for work. While there, I visited the AE store in Rockefeller center. William was my salesperson. I was in pretty casual clothing, but he still treated me well just as any other customer. He asked me where I was from, and we spent nearly half an hour chatting up a great conversation about Hawaii since he's spent time here before. William wasn't pushy at all and made me feel very comfortable in his shop. It was quite some time before he even asked me if I was interested in seeing anything that day. Little did he know that I walked in knowing exactly what I wanted and I was ready to pull the trigger on a pair of Daltons immediately. I previously had a lot of issues finding my size for the 65 last. Being in Hawaii where we don't have any AE stores, I had to order and return three pairs of Boulevards through AE's website before finding my proper fit. I explained this to William and he empathized with my situation. He took the time and care to fit me properly to ensure I knew what size I was for different lasts and shoe types. I finally told him that I was there to purchase a pair of Daltons, and he had me sized for them in a 9 3E. AE retail stores don't keep Dainite soles in stock for the Daltons, so he ordered them for me and shipped them to my residence. He was so polite, patient, and professional throughout the whole process, and it was such a wonderful experience! Once I returned home a few days later, the Daltons were waiting on my doorstep. The boots were absolutely gorgeous! Luckily, I didn't have any issues with AE's quality control for my first pair (I've had quite a bit of QC issues with AE shoes in the past). The construction of the boots were great. The stitching was tight, and the color was consistent and even. I completely recommend Dainite soles if you're on the fence about them. Because of Hawaii's tropical weather, having Dainite soles is almost necessary. The boots are extremely comfortable if sized properly, and I didn't feel like they needed to be broken in. My only concern has already been mentioned by several people. The tongue seems to be constructed out of two pieces of leather with the seam being right in the middle of the tongue. If you have a high instep or purchase a size that's too small, this seam might get extremely uncomfortable. It doesn't bother me, but I can definitely feel that it's there. Be cautious, because it has the ability of causing extreme discomfort for some folks. I don't personally write reviews until a few months of using the product. After two months of wear, the boots have held up well and still look great (I do also condition and polish all of my shoes once a week). All of the stitching and construction has held up, and the boot continues to become more comfortable as each day passes. Thank you William for your great customer service, and AE for a great boot!

    Dalton or First Avenue boots?

Are there substantial differences between the Dalton and the First Avenue in wet/cold weather? I'm in the Midwest and my boots take a beating over the next 6 months. I actually just returned a Higgins Mill boot because unfortunately the style was too casual. At least I did not think it paired well with a suit. I like the First Avenue style a bit more but am wondering if the Dainite rubber sole is worth the trade off. I know I can do the First Ave in Dainite but not in black. Thoughts? Thanks very much, I appreciate the consideration.

We use the same constructions methods on both the Dalton and the First Avenue, the difference will be the fit and the design (wingtip vs captoe). The Dalton is made on the 511 last which is slightly rounder toe than the First Avenue made on the 201 last and has a more chiseled look. Rubber soles tend to hold up better than leather soles on wet ground, keep in mind however neither is considered to be waterproof. We suggest wearing SWIMS if there are any concerns about weather conditions, and thicker boot socks to protect better against colder temperatures. Ultimately, both styles are dress boots and can be paired with a suit, so the selection comes down to personal preference. We hope that helps, feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

    Do these boots run large?

I wear a 10.5E on the 65 last shoes and was wondering if I should "step down" with these boots.
    Asked by: Chitown
Allen Edmonds shoes are constructed on a wide variety of lasts (foot molds) and each will feature unique fit characteristics. It is difficult to recommend a size through this channel and guarantee a proper fit because each last will fit differently based on the contours of your feet. Please follow this link to learn more about lasts: http://www.allenedmonds.com/shoes-101/lasts.html It is vitally important to visit an Allen Edmonds retail store or retail partner for a professional fitting to increase your chances of being fit correctly for each last and style. However, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoes in returnable condition.

Just bought a pair of these. Should I apply any kind of waterproofing before I wear in the snow/rain?

    Asked by: canesauce
We do not recommend using the Spray Waterproofer or any waterproofing products on fine leather. Calfskin is a naturally porous material and this product will clog the pores of the leather which will affect its quality. To provide an added layer of protection against dirt and water, we offer waterproof premium Swims Mobster Overshoes which allow you to wear your favorite shoes regardless of weather conditions. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.
