Kenilworth Plain-Toe Blucher is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 142.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A fine shoe and style.` I really like this shoe. Fits true to the sizes of my Allen Edmond collection. Give it a high wearability index: casual with khakis through sportsuits. 'Will look forward to AE adding walnut to the color scale so that I can order another pair.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Noticeable AE Quality Control issues Potential Buyers, I’ve had to return brand new shoes from Allen Edmonds twice in the last six months per quality control issues. They do not allow exchanges for the same shoes without the problems. They refund your money and you have to reorder and hope the shoes do not have the same defect. I’ve been an AE customer for quite some time and have around 10 pairs in my collection. They are my favorite shoe maker even despite recent QC failure. I really hope they can turn it around. In addition to this I’ve made orders on the website of items they listed as having only to be informed that item and/ or size of item was no longer available. Please update your website in a timely manner. Pair one: the captioned Kenilworth in brown. Looked forward to this shoe. The leather was incorrectly dyed compared to the picture. The gradient on the color when moving towards the toe is gradual in the picture. In the shoes I received it is so abrupt the shoe looks like it has a painted on cap toe line! Pair 2: 5th Avenue in black. Long time AE model. Both shoes had large ridged creases in front of the brogue on the cap toe before ever worn. Frankly this lack of quality control wouldn’t be allowed in a shoe offered at Walmart at three times less the price. Not an exaggerated statement. These shoes should not even been allowed to be sold as factory seconds. I sincerely hope AE corrects these QC issues. When reading some of the reviews previously I thought they were exaggerated rants because I had not yet experienced it. But now I have twice in six months. So it appears to be a real concern. I may just purchase in store from now on. Online buying is a gamble. At this price point this is unacceptable. I look forward to purchasing more AE in the future. I rarely if ever review items purchased online. However, I hope AE will see this QC problem for what it is and simply fix the issues. Sincerely, Concerned Customer

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Looks Good But... The shoe buckles a little, and it is squeaky. I like Allen Edmunds shoes when they work out, but 2 out of the last 3 pairs I've bought have had serious issues, including one pair that is unwearable because the cut rubs against my ankle bone and is squeaky as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good shoes but takes a few wears to break in My first purchase of AE's. The quality is obvious from the time you take them out of the box. I wanted a pair of derbys vs oxfords so I dont have to buy more than one. I have wore them with both slacks and jeans and they look great on both. The only issue is they are stiff when you first wear them. I didnt know if this was standard with AE but after a few times I wore them a few times they broke in very nicely. I also love the fact you can purchase in width. I hesitated on purchasing them based on the price but when the anniversary sale came around I jumped at the chance. They were my 5th choice but the best choice. Some of the other kinds I ordered online were too narrow. The size 12E fit great. I will definitely be purchasing another pair but not in the near future.

how do you get the lacing to lie flat on the top as shown in the picture

I know there is a trick lacing pattern to get that sleek look. Do I skip lace (one to second grommet) other to third?
    Asked by: original tanman
The Kenilworth is laced this way only for display purposes, however you can achieve a similar look by using the following lacing method: 1. Begin straight across on the outside and in through the bottom eyelets. 2. The left end runs straight up on the inside, then straight across on the outside. 3. The right end runs diagonally up and left on the inside, then straight across on the outside. Repeat with alternate ends until one end reaches the top left eyelet. 4. The remaining end runs straight up on the inside and out through the top right eyelet. Is this a shoe you can wear with jeans or is it more designed to go with a suit?

    Asked by: Mike
The Kenilworth is considered to be a dress shoe because the lack or adornment and elongated silhouette makes it the perfect style for suits and tuxedos. However, as men’s fashion rules change, there is much more flexibility in how men dress and how one pairs their shoes with their attire. The Kenilworth can certainly be worn with dress/casual outfits, specially in the walnut leather because it tends to be a more versatile color. If you want to wear the walnut Kenilworth with jeans, consider coordinating it with the matching belt, a white dress shirt, and a charcoal blazer for example. Another way to wear it would be with dark wash jeans, a blue shirt, and khaki blazer. Ultimately, what each individual chooses to pair their Allen Edmonds with is their own decision; we encourage customers to wear what they feel most comfortable in. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

I see these are on clearance. If I were to buy a pair, would they be able to be recrafted in a decade?

    Asked by: Bret
Yes, the re-crafting service re-uses the existing uppers. Even with full re-crafting, the sole, heel & insole will all be replaced - the uppers will be reconditioned and re-finished/polished. This is what makes a Goodyear welted shoe such high value, it can be reconditioned either by AE or a quality cobbler.

Will this product line be renewed?

The plain Kenilworth shoe is fantastic in walnut and can go with so many styles. I want to order my second pair.

Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds. At this time there are no plans to reintroduce the Kenilworth into our current collection, and therefore it is limited to the sizes and width currently available online. However, we suggest checking out our Carlyle style which is a balmoral but also features a plain toe and it is offered in the walnut leather. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions. Allen Edmonds Customer Service

Has the bowing problem been solved.

These look like very nice shoes, but it seems like a lot of people have the problem of bowing below the ankle. Has that been addressed?

can I use an orthotic in these shoes?

can I use an orthotic in any shoes that are not labeled "orthotic". I tried a pair of park avenues and it didnt seem quite right-- heel was loose...
    Asked by: Randy
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds. The Kenilworth and Park Avenue styles were not manufactured with an orthotic fit in mind. We only manufacture a select number of styles with our removable footbed. As well, Allen Edmonds Replacement Orthotic Insoles are designed for a select number of styles which feature removable orthotics. You can find the complete Allen Edmonds Orthotic Collection of shoes by clicking here: http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline/cati2_Shoes_1_40000000001_-1_______130259_subcategory?. Keep in mind though, if the shoe is fit large enough, orthotic inserts can be used in almost any of our shoes. Depending on your foot shape and preferred fit, typically we recommend ordering a size up. The best way to get a proper fit with your orthotic inserts is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions. Kenilworth Shoe Appearance - Fit

Why in the two photos provided under reviews for this shoe does it appear that the outside of the opening has a gaping opening or cupping. The photos are not very flattering. I like the appearance of the shoe until it is on a foot in these photos. Do you see what I mean? It's a serious question because I was about to buy them online from another web site. Im not interested in having my question posted. Just looking for an answer for myself. Thank you.
    Asked by: Kevin
Know the width of your foot before purchasing. I had mine measured, ordered the correct size, and have had nothing but compliments. This shoe will bow, however, if you buy the wrong size. I tried it on in Nordstrom with a regular D width and it was way to big.
