Why It's Great

The monk strap shoe was originally designed to be a dressier and more durable alternative to the sandals worn by monks across Europe. Essentially a work shoe, the first monk straps were made of durable leathers and featured a cap toe to provide additional protection. That is the origin of the style but they’ve come a long way since then.

How It's Made

The first double monk strap in our Refined Dress Collection, it rides the line between the balmoral and blucher in formality. With the St. John’s we have created a double monk strap with the classic cap toe to which we have added exquisite perfing and pinking along the toe and waist that lend it an air of contemporary cool.

How to Wear It

A double monk strap is a statement shoe, you know one when you see one. And it is versatile enough to wear with a suit, jeans and everything in between.

Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

How Long will the Squeaking Last??

I love the looks of my St. Johns and they are as comfortable as my McAllister's but the squeaking is driving me nuts. I understand that the flap over the instep (leather on leather) is causing the noise. I only wear these in the house because they are too noisy to wear in public!!! Any ideas or tips on how to make this noise go away???
Asked by: sandiegoken
The show lotion worked immediately....Thanks, I applied it to the tongue and underside of the flap and the squeaks are gone.

is this a slip on or do you have to buckel and unbuckel when putting on & off?

Asked by: Hike
Wouldn't advise to use this show as slip on. I always unbuckle before putting them on

333 last compared to 1943 Last

I own 2 pairs of shoes with the 333 last. I am looking at the St. Johns Double Monk Strap which is made with the 1943 Last. How does the 1943 compare to the 333 in terms of width and fit?
Asked by: Mochi
The 1943 last is a derivative of our established 333 last, we reduced the toe length and widened the fit across the ball of the foot. The 1943 is a new last in the Refined Dress category. A soft square toe shape is paired with a sculpted, longer forepart and higher cone than our traditional Timeless Classic lasts. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

Belt to match shoe

Matching belt
Asked by: John
For black, go with the black croc belt. At $295 it's a bargain, and it's a little wider and so shows well.

Can I be measured so you guys can get me the correct fit in any style of shoe or boot? I have 12 pairs of AE shoes, I would not buy on line because I can't get the same size shoe when I go to the store to buy. I need to try on several different sizes and widths before I can find the good fit, sometimes not the perfect fit. But if you all have the size that fits perfect in one pair, why can't you find me the perfect fit by using the styles size? thank, marty417
Asked by: Marty417
Thank you for your question. The best way to get measured for multiple styles would be to visit one of our retail stores and let one of our Master Fitters measure you. From there, they will be able to size you in just about any style of footwear we offer.

I wear a size 10.5 D, however, I have a high instep and slip-on shoes tend to cause pain at the top of my foot. What size should I order the St. Johns

Asked by: Shep2k
