Why It's Great

One of the first styles reintroduced in the Timeless Classics Collection, the Strand is a perennial favorite thanks to its classic yet contemporary design. A shoe that effortlessly conveys an air of refined elegance, the Strand is a stand out for its impressive perforations, striking medallion on the cap toe and fully leather-lined upper. Versatile enough to wear with suits or jeans, the strand is a Timeless Classic with an emphasis on timeless.

How It's Made

Made on the favorite 65 Last with elaborate perforations, calfskin leather, brogue styling, and trademark cap-toe medallion, you know a Strand when you see one. With the wide selection of ways to customize it, from leather to sole, there’s a Strand for every man. Throw in the array of colors, from the best-selling Walnut, to the classic Black, and stylish Oxblood, there’s a reason most Strand owners don’t stop at just one pair.

How to Wear It

A Strand man is refined and classic, but is also not afraid to let his personality show through his footwear. Strands are versatile and comfortable enough to be worn with most items in your wardrobe, dressed down with jeans on the weekend, or with a suit for the boardroom meeting on Monday. And speaking of classic pairings, it was made for our Manistee belt with coordinating colors to fully complete your ensemble. Be prepared for complements – lots of them.

Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great business and casual shoe This is my second pair of EA shoes I bought. Like the Fifth Avenue I bought them in NY, but these in Walnut. As the Fifth Avenues, they are perfect to wear, look stunning and are extremely comfortable. I most of the time wear them with blue Jeans and they are my go to shoes when I am not 100% sure if I should go formal or casual.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from My AE experience has turn from great to disappointment I have purchased Fifth ave in dark brown, and could not have been happier, since i wanted to add Strands, in walnut, and I live in area where no shops can measure ,as advised by very helpful customer service, I have ordered regular in E and seconds in D, same type, with plan to return one. Both arrived defective. Seconds, were with ugly leather patch, on back of the shoes, where midline stitches come to the end, and regular had on one side dark wide stain on leather. I immediately called and send back both. When asked to have replacement send in regular, I was told there is app 2 weeks period for processing return, and shipping new one.I went ahead and made another purchase, so I can get new one sooner. Hoping for the best.

Ask & Answer

Looking for a dressy shoe. Have high arch in 3E. Which is best, brown Strand, cordovan Strand or brown Bartlett? Chip

Asked by: Chip
The Strand is constructed on the 65 Last. The longest in length of all of our lasts; best for a long, narrow look; and often the best fit for those with high arches. It is vitally important to visit an Allen Edmonds retail store or retail partner for a professional fitting to increase your chances of being fit correctly for each last and style. However, keep in mind that products purchased on may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip.  Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoes in returnable condition.

Do gentlemen usually purchase two of the same shoe in different colors?

I currently have the Strand in Oxblood and the Fifth Ave in Walnut. I am thinking about purchasing the Strand in Walnut due to the beautiful character of the shoe. Just wondering if anyone else purchases the same shoe in multiple colors. Thank you.
Asked by: Anonymous
Absolutely. I have several pairs of Strands, in different colors and styles. I have Walnut with Dainite soles, Walnut with leather, Bourbon Pebble Grain, and Dark Walnut. Although they are versatile, the individual stlyes allow me to customize to a much higher level and greater degree than if I'd had only one. I am a big fan of the Walnut color in general and have Cornwallis, McNeils, McAllisters, Dalton boots, and Bartletts in the same color. Each are different style shoes for me and are worn with many different outfits from suits to jeans. I even change the entire look of an outfit I am wearing by simply changing the style of the shoe, although the color may remain the same.

An 11.5 D in the Strand pinches tight in the arch. Would an E width solve that problem?

I am comfortable in a 201 last in a standard D width. I have a pair of Neumok 2.0 that feel comfy. The 65 feels too tight in the arch. I like the Strand and wonder if going to an E width might solve the tightness issue?
Asked by: Bill
I wear a 10 1/2 D in most shoe brands. But after visiting an Allen Edmonds shoe store and exploring with different shoes and widths, I found that a 10-E is a perfect fit! The Allen Edmonds 65 shoe last fits my foot the best. Also, after being a shoe salesman for the first 12 years of my sales career, I discovered that 90% of the men I measured had one foot being a half size longer than the other foot. You’ll obviously have to fit your larger foot to obtain the best size and fit.

Bourbon shoes burnished?

Are the bourbon shoes made that way via burnishing? If so, what would be a good conditioner to use and not lose any color?
Asked by: DCDenizen
Allen Edmonds offers a shoe polish in bourbon. Since the bourbon color is a burnished technique during craftsmanship, no two pairs of bourbon shoes are going to be an exact match. That’s what makes each pair unique in its own right. That being said, the best way to care for all Allen Edmonds leathers, (except suede) is to: 1st - remove the laces 2nd- take a horse hair brush and brush them thoroughly to remove any dirt and previous polish residue 3rd - apply Allen Edmonds shoe cream or polish with a soft towel or horse hair shoe dober generously covering the entire shoe evenly, then let the polish dry to a dull haze 4th - use an Allen Edmonds horse hair shoe brush and brush them for several minutes until the shine becomes bright and there’s no dull haze anywhere. 5th - use an Allen Edmonds polishing cloth for a brilliant finish 6th - re-lace them As for the shoe sole Use Allen Edmonds sole dressing, sponge on the side of the sole (if you get some of the dressing on the shoe upper leather, just brush it with a horsehair brush and it should blend in with the shoe leather) And last, put your Allen Edmonds shoes in the shoe bags they came in and rotate shoe colors every two to three days. Back to the bourbon polish, as you continue to polish your bourbon shoes over time, they’ll begin to take on their own unique bourbon color through several polishings. They’ll begin to look even better over time with proper care! I also polish my matching bourbon belt, and the more I do so, the more consistent the color matches my bourbon shoes. *note - when adding polish or cream to shoes that have toes and heel designs such as cap toes or wingtips, if extra polish builds up in the holes within the print design, just take a horsehair brush or dober, and tap that area with a quick tapping method, and this will remove the excess polish from the shoe print holes (step #4). Hope this helps with your Allen Edmonds bourbon shoes.

Do you recommend taking insoles out of this shoe to put custom ones in?

Hi, When I put soft custom insoles that I like inside of this shoe, my heel becomes too high and it gets pushed out and it keeps coming out as I walk in the shoe. I really like soft, sneaker like insoles with thick padding, so I am thikning about purchasing EEE widh in this shoe for maximum toe comfort and then I was thinking about taking insoles that come inside of this shoe out of this shoe by professional (current insoles that come with the shoe seems to be tightly glued to the bottom of this shoe so I will have shoemaker do it) and this should open some space for thicker insoles to be put it and my heel will not come out as much when I walk. Does this plan sound good to you or this is not a good idea and you do not recommend it and why don't you recommend it?
Asked by: Vlad
Your plan will not work. Sorry but the insole is attached to a strip of material called gemming. The leather welt is then sewn to the gemming. There is a cork filler that is added to the space left by this process. The outsole is then stitched to the welt. You may want to visit an AE store and inquire about styles that have a poron cushioned insole. This cushion is added to the shoe before the shoe is lasted thus preserving the fit that was intended.
