Hopkinson Cap-Toe Oxford is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 94.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great leather but delivered with the wrong sole This shoe is supposedly made with better leather and a different sole however the pair I received had the same sole as the ones on my Strand, Fifth Avenue, and McAllister. That made me wonder whether I had just paid more for a Park Avenue.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Greatly disappointed by my experience with Allen Edmunds. I have purchased Allen Edmunds' shoes in the past at Nordstrom. When I placed this order from the sales catalog I anticipated the same quality as if I were purchasing the shoes from a retail outlet. Did not happen. Shoes had a film of dust-like grime on them. There was a scratch on the front toe of one of the shoes. It was as if someone picked these out of a bin, could not be bothered with dusting them off or inspecting them, threw them in a box and shipped them. Terrible quality control. You'd get a better product from Wal-Mart. Because the quality was so poor, and before I sent them back with a request for another pair, I called to see if the catalog sale was for "seconds" and was assured that was not the case. I returned them and asked for a replacement pair on the return slip. When I did not receive anything in a couple of weeks, I called and was advised that I had to reorder the product as the return center could not send me a new pair. The sale was over, but was told I could order a new pair and then call customer service after I received the shoes and that an "adjustment" would then be made. I passed. I was not going through that and then hope an adjustment would be made. Not the type of service one would expect from Allen Edmunds.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quaility I have received two different pairs, both were of terrible quality. The first pair was poorly died and the leather looked like had been worn before. I honestly thought AE sent me someone else's pair of re crafted shoes. The second pair, the stitching is loose and off center with the rest leaving pieces of leather looking longer than it should. I am going to the AE store to return them and hope the third pair is wearable and worth the over $350 (while on sale) that I paid.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The shoe was a great value being hand made here in the US, but will require finishing polish/wax. The overall condition of the shoes were good. I say this because the shoes will require additional polishing and possibly waxing (depending on your preference). There were a few tiny areas that were not properly polished or had not polish at all. The overall workmanship of the heel, sole and leather were great. I would suggest that you order Allen Edmonds shoe polish and/or wax along with your shoe purchase.

Hopkinson is a six hole shoe. However in front of the very first hole, is a tiny "thread". Is this supposed to remain on the shoe?

Why does the leather feel different from Barlett

when both are made of the same lamb skin leather and pretty much identical shoes except the broguing? I tried both at the store the Barlett walnut felt super comfortable the leather was soft then I tried Hopkinson in black and the leather was as soft as Barlett. I don't understand why.

How should I treat these shoes before wearing them? Waterproofer? Leather lotion? Anything in particular? Also, what type of leather are these made from? Thank you.
    Asked by: Kris
You should look at Allen Edmonds line of Cordovan shoes which are "water resistant". Otherwise, I would recommend both a shoe cream followed by a shoe wax. This is what I used for the past 25 years with my Allen Edmonds shoes. Keep in mind that I polish and wax my own shoes, so there is some labor involved here. I also keep a cloth at work and in my car to "dry" my shoes if they get wet. Finally, there are some waterproofing sprays available for leather, but be careful which one you choose as they could change the patina/look of your leather.

Fit wise,a re the Hopkinson shoes the same as the park avenues just wider?

I have a pair of park avenues, and the 11 EEE fits ok, but are just a little narrow. I recently tried the Hopkinson, because it seemed they were wider fitting. The width was better, but it seemed there was less room in between the bottom and top of the inside of the shoe. This caused my toes to be forced up into the top of the shoe. Part of the problem is that I have to wear orthotic inserts which obviously takes up room. I did not have this problem with the park avenues. Do you think I will have the same problem if I try another pair of the Hopkinson? If this effects anything the pair I had were also a little too long, but my main question is about the fit of the front of the shoe.
    Asked by: Gregory
The Hopkinson and the Park Avenue are constructed on different lasts, the 201 and 65 respectively, and therefore the fit varies. At Allen Edmonds, we believe the right fit is vitally important. We recommend a professional fitting by an Allen Edmonds associate at your nearest retail location or an authorized Allen Edmonds dealer. How should I treat this shoe before I begin wearing it (i.e., waterproofing, etc.)?

    Asked by: Kris
Condition, polish and if desired, wax the heel and toe areas. You have no idea how long any shoe has been sitting in a box and they should be conditioned and cream polished to restore and nourish the leather. These, like most shoes, do not come pre-polished/shined.

does this hopkinson style have some revision recently?

I found my independence collection shoes bought 5 years ago have a metal clip on the under side but the Jefferson 2.0 and this Hopkinson both do not have that metal clip. I recently purchased a pair of this Hopkinson and a pair of Jefferson 2.0 and they are consistent with the picture here (i.e. no metal clip on the under side). Since Jefferson 2.0 is called 2.0 so I suppose it has some revision recently. I'm wondering whether this Hopkinson also has some revision recently (in the past 2 to 3 years) ? thank you
    Asked by: charlesNYC
Thank you for your question. The sole of the Independence Collection shoes, was changed to not include the metal plate on the bottom any longer.

If you wear a size C width, which size is correct with this shoe? I wear a 10 1/2 C.

    Asked by: Anonymous
I have noticed that you can generally go one width size smaller on the Independence Collection. Trying them on is the best way to answer this though!
