    Leather Care Instructions

STEP 1: Using a damp cloth or sponge, lather our Saddle Soap and apply onto leather to clean and restore its natural oils.

STEP 2: Polish and condition the shoes with our Leather Lotion, protecting them from dirt, rain and snow.

STEP 4: Use our Cotton Flannel Polishing Cloth to buff shoes to a desired shine.

    Suede Care Instructions

STEP 1: Thoroughly remove stains using our Suede and Nubuck Cleaning System, following the instructions on the box.

STEP 2: Once the material has dried, spray our Water Protector over the surface of the shoes and let dry.

    Relaxed Fit

The relaxed fit has added space in the toe box. This extra room allows for thicker socks and foot expansion that occurs at the end of the day or during a long flight.

Surrey Derby Shoe is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 45.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Sizing and soles are problems with this shoe The sizing issues are well documented in other reviews. It is exacerbated if you wear a 13, like I do, because ordering a half size down is not an option. I put running shoe inserts into the shoes and wore them, so I'm stuck with them. Bottom line, buy at least a half size smaller, if you can. I really dislike the Dainite soles. They are even stiffer than a double leather sole, and unlike leather soles, they never break-in, they just stay hard and stiff, like the plastic that they are. Driving with these is like learning all over again because you can't even feel the pedals. They are also slippery, even more so than leather, on wet surfaces. I don't understand the popularity of this sole. Just terrible, in my opinion. I plan to send the shoes in for recrafting with the Othello rubber sole. I will give these shoes five stars for the leather uppers. Super smooth and buttery leather. Nicest uppers I have ever owned. Impressive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice shoes, comfortable I recently purchased these in black and am pleased with the look/fit. The only open question is how they will handle getting wet. I haven't tried the waterproof leather before, but it looks great and feels soft. I have other AE shoes with the Dainite soles and they have worn well.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, not great I recently purchased the suede Surrey Derby Shoe, and have mixed feelings. At first glace, they are a beautiful shoe, and they are quite comfortable. However, there are a few issues that I was surprised by given Allen Edmonds's good, but slipping, quality control. The suede had a few noticeable blemishes that a suede-cleaning brush helped, but did not fix. Additionally, there are multiple issues with the side of the soles. I'm not sure if the heel and edge dressing or some other coating was very sloppily applied, but it has caused the sides of the soles to look odd. I had planned on exchanging them and hoping for better luck with a second pair, but they were out of stock online and in the three stores I checked. The issues aren't so bad that I returned them -- I actually had them all boxed up and ready to ship back, but at the last minute I changed my mind.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hit and miss I also purchased these shoes during one of the holiday sales and thought I was getting a good value. Instead, I bought myself 2 trips to the AE store in my town to exchange them, and finally return them. The first pair I bought was my regular size. The shoes I received were (shockingly) perfect: not one of the usual quality control issues. However, they were slightly large (even with thicker socks), so I decided to exchange them for 1/2 size smaller. The quality of the second pair was just awful: the leather color was much lighter than the first pair, the nubuck looked "bald" and worn out in places, the welt work was sloppy, and the leather was splotched in many places with black spots and smudges (I'm guessing from the paint that was used to finish the sole edge). So, I took them back to the store and the kind salesperson there ordered a replacement with expedited shipping. The third pair was definitely better in quality than the second, although there were still some black spots on the nubuck. At the end, I decided that the fit was not good enough and the design just awkward, so I sent them back. I found these shoes difficult to dress: definitely not something I would wear with dress pants, but too dressy to wear with jeans or even khakis. Also, they were very heavy. I gave these shoes "Poor Value" mark based on their ridiculously high full price, although even at less than half price I didn't think they were worth keeping.

would water seep through the out sole and welt by stitching and wet the upper of the shoes? if not glued, once the stitching is worn, would the outer sole separate from the upper? Thanks
    Asked by: wayne
The Surrey derby shoe has a lugged rubber sole that is stitched onto the upper. My experience in wearing the surrey derby shoe in wet & rainy conditions showed no leaks. You'll have to walk several hundred miles before the welt stitching is affected. Even then, you should have no concerns because the sole is bonded to the upper; the stitching is reinforcement. These shoes are high quality and solid. Wearing them has given me great confidence that they will last me many years, and then they can be recrafted...
