    Relaxed Fit

The relaxed fit has added space in the toe box. This extra room allows for thicker socks and foot expansion that occurs at the end of the day or during a long flight.

Normandy Cap-Toe Boot is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 48.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from New Boots - Mixed feelings Third pair of edmonds but I normally get leather soles, these boots have good year rubber and the rubber heel piece came clear off with daily wear in the first two weeks. I'm currently deciding whether to send them back and (per customer service email) wait up to 5 weeks for an evaluation or just glue it on myself... sigh. Everything else about the boots are great so I'll assume someone just did a poor glue job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Boot, Make Sure You Try Them On First! I bought these boots as a second pair to my usual work boots (I am an onsite engineer in construction) and can say they have held up extremely well in pretty harsh conditions. I'd be wary of reviews that say they fall apart easily or have quality issues, either I am the exception or they are in terms of quality but I feel it is the latter of my two statements. Overall the boots are of a good finish, leather is consistent, stitching seems to be pretty well done overall with minor imperfections. Sizing was a bit surprising as most of my Allen Edmonds are true to size, but those are dress shoes NOT boots, which may explain a lot of it. The ankle being pinched is true, and get this, if you do tighten the ever-loving-god out of them. I was in the military for about 8 years, started off in construction and am now back in construction -so you could say I've worn boots more in my life than most people wear tennis shoes. My point being that of course they'll hurt if you tie them or size them wrong. Do your homework and then complain maybe. The width seems a a tad bit larger but I'd prefer that as my feet swell through the day of wear. Double wrapping the laces at the ankle is a good method to properly secure them, ensure the little flap that folds over under neath the laces is seated properly, and of course just don't over tighten as some have. Also be aware they make these with a leather sole as a default, not a treaded one. You can change this from the factory I believe but if you do so after I think it modifies the warranty. After roughly a year of wear I will state they are very good boots and will be wearing them for probably another decade or so.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from below the Allen Edmunds normal product I found the boot not to meet my expectations. The boot is unlined, does not look or feel like a quality product that is the normal Allen Edmunds boot. I would not buy this product or a similar boot again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Enjoying them, could be improved I understand why a few reviewers said these were the most uncomfortable shoes they had ever worn, it took me awhile to realize the leather of the tongue can crease on the sides and cause painful pressure on the ankle bone. In response, I was tying them very loosely, which made them fit poorly. Once I realized I needed to run a finger along the left and right sides of the tongue to make sure there were no folds- no more problem. This seems a simple enough fix in the design stage, and one that many other companies have figured out since this is the first shoe I have ever had do that. Now that I have worn them for a few weeks, I can say that they are comfortable. I stand all day on concrete and was looking for something that did not leave my feet exhausted at the end of the day, these are fitting the bill. I am a craftsman, so I was a little disappointed to see just how much variation there was between the left and right shoes as far as stitching, cut of the leather, and even small gaps in the layers of the sole. Not the quality I would expect from a company that claims high quality. It will not affect use or life of the shoes, but aesthetically, it was a let down. Admittedly, no one looking down at the shoes will ever notice, but isn't the point of craftsmanship to pay attention to the details? These shoes fit a slightly wider toe box very well. I do not measure wide, but most shoes cut in too quickly and I am loving the fit of these. Bottom line, I will buy from them again. So few shoe companies have the variety of lasts that Allen Edmonds does, they will have one that fits you. Highly recommend visiting a store if you get a chance, sales people amazingly helpful and well informed.

Should I size down when buying this shoe.

I have seen on reviews were a lot of people recommend sizing down on this boot before I make a purchase should I do a size down I am a 10 and a 1/2 and 1 of my feet is slightly smaller than the other
    Asked by: Robert
These boots reminded me when I use to wear "jump boots" in the military (they are almost exactly the same), so I remember needing foot pads. Please do your knees and feet a favor and buy in your regular size, so you can add foot pads with arch support.

Is this new Normandy boot still made from Kudu?

I have the older Normandy in brown kudu and double leather oak sole. This new one (830x) says it's weatherproof, and it look like there's a sheen to them. Is it still made from Kudu? If not, what kind of leather is it? Safe to wear these in a steady rain? Do you recommend using the new weatherproofing spray on these?
    Asked by: Ducatisti
I don’t think they are waterproof. I have the dark ones and have sprayed them several times with leather waterproofing spray.

Regarding the Normandy 2.0, what does bench welt mean. How does this differ from my Normandy 1.0 version ?? Many thanks

    Asked by: Jack
The differences are the leather options offered which have been treated to tolerate water better, and the commando rubber sole. Bench welt is the same 360 degree welted construction we've always used but with a new name. Feel free to contact us again if you have additional questions!
