Cove Drive Suede is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fit, great look. Wow! Right out of the box, these are some of the best fitting and most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. High quality suede, sophisticated design, and a good deal -- especially as mine are factory seconds (with no apparent flaws). I'm generally not inspired to write reviews, but AE deserves applause for these shoes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great with jeans I have a wide foot and was concerned even the E width would be too narrow, but these fit great, even with a dress sock. They're a great, comfortable, casual shoe. Wear them with jeans or casual slacks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect score. (at least for me it is) When the original leather cove drives came out, I was interested. Lolly gagged around and missed out on them. Glad I did because the suede version is so much better looking. These are my first pair of AEs that are Dominican made. My other 7 pair are all USA made. I admit I was hesitant because I didn't know if the quality would be the same. It is! Let me tell you something. These bad boys delivered big time. I am a true sized 13D and like Cinderella they were a perfect fit. I ordered the blue suede and its a lot darker than what the website showed which looks more like a baby blue. The contrasting color from the blue upper to the tan sole is really appealing to the eye. This casual shoe also comes with a crepe sole. For those of you that have never experienced this before, it's like walking on pillows. Ever so comfy and amazing. Grab a pair. You won't be disappointed. I promise.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Definitely exceeded my expectations overall I usually have a lot of trouble with 201-lasted bluchers - the raised cone is usually too much for me. I brannock at a 7.5C and usually drop to a 7D to compensate, but with the 201, the D-width AND raised cone can pose a problem. Even with the balmorals like the Hopkinson I feel semi-overloaded with volume. I decided to take a chance on the original Cove Drive in a 7D (leather, harrier sole version). Not sure if my pair was defective, but they ran VERY snug. The 7D was fine for me, not much excess volume either at the instep or width-wise. They fit almost like the 65-lasted bluchers, maybe even tighter. I bought them in lieu of a new pair of sneakers for use on a European vacation. After wearing them casually for about 2 days off and on, I packed them for my trip. This vacation involved lots and lots of walking and hiking, in brutally hot temperatures, over dirt, gravel, rocks and cobblestones, lots of uphill, for hours and hours at a time. First full day of this, my left heel's skin was completely sheered off, my right heel burned red with pain. Neither was at the point of bleeding through my socks, but it was VERY VERY painfull. After bandaging them up, every subsequent wear was better than the next. The white harrier sole did remarkably well in all the different terrain conditions. I was literally shocked - I normally would have never attempted that with anything other than a mini-lug or better, but I was pleasantly surprised. Just sitting on the very long flight home from Europe back to the US, the vamp did finally bother my arches after about 7+ hours of sitting, which is pretty typical with the 65-lasted shoes in general. Construction-wise, I felt that these (GYW) were better than the usual cemented or handsewn constructed DR-made styles, but definitely lacking in comparison with the USA-made. An in-between. Not terrible, but not great. DEFINITELY better than that available by other brands for the style. All in all, these did "beat me up" pretty well. My heels were rubbed raw, the tops of my feet were blistered pretty badly. But I have newfound respect for a DR-made GYW, I would buy one again if the price was right. And I'm ok with the white harrier sole too. Pretty good - job well done.

Crepe soles are generally cemented, is re-crafting basically just cementing another crepe sole? if re-crafting is ordered would it be in the US or DR?
    Asked by: jp
The Cove Drive is a welted style and the crepe sole is stitched to the upper. You can request a sole replacement through our Recrafting service. The prices shown on our Recrafting page are in USD. Feel free to contact us again if you have additional questions!

Why would I want a pair of AE's made in the Dominican?

I buy AE shoes because they have traditionally been high quality and made in the USA. If you change either of these qualities I will move to Alden or British brands.
    Asked by: Brad
The Cove Drive is part of our ‘ae by Allen Edmonds’ collection that is handcrafted in our Dominican Republic factory, which is our own factory and employees. With that said, this collection is not our main focus and it’s a small percent of our sales. However, the success of this collection has played a part in helping us continue to grow with stores and sales jobs here in the USA. Rest Assured, Allen Edmonds’ main focus is the classic welted styles which comprises the majority of our sales and we make these styles in our Wisconsin factory. If you're looking for a suede plain-toe style handcrafted in our Wisconsin factory, we recommend the Heinrich, Nomad Buck, Nomad Chukka, or Liverpool. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

I usually wear narrow width. In fact, my AE Park Avenues are 8B. Wondering if this D-width casual on 212 last will work.
    Asked by: Anonymous
It is vitally important to visit an Allen Edmonds retail store or retail partner for a professional fitting to increase your chances of finding a proper fit. If that's not possible, typically we recommend trying the same size you usually wear and judge the fit based on how comfortable you feel in the shoes.   Keep in mind that products purchased on may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip.  Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoes in returnable condition.

Does the Cove Drive use Charles F. Stead suede like the Sea Island?

    Asked by: Dan P
We do not use it on the Cove Drive. We recommend the Nomad Buck Derby as that style features C.F. Stead suede. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.
