    Ask & Answer
Maritime Boat Shoe is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 58.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from NOT Chromexcel At least not now... To preface this, I didn't expect the same quality as the mainline. The ae sub-brand comes at a lower price-point, and I expected differences. Still, I decided to grab a pair of these in green as beaters, having seen they are still listed as Chromexcel, and previously seeing the lovely green Chromexcel pull-up on the Maritime in-store only just a couple seasons ago (even the Chromepak on the Nothland mocs was lovely in green). Even if these were shopworn seconds, I might have accepted it given the current sale. So, just know, I was going to be more accepting than usual. Well, I just received a pair in green today, and noticed several nicks in the insole. An indication of lesser QC there to be sure, but still no wear on the outsole. Then I noticed the stitching is "dirty" grey vs the white shown on the current (February 2019) photos above. Despite myself, the thing I first thought was whether they were recycling old thread from past shoes. It was an odd discrepancy. Then I saw the new collar pull tag on the back isn't there as in the above photos. I knew that tag a more recent development on the Maritime, so my next thought that these were even from before last season, but that was confusing, since that was when I saw them in shop...with that lovely Chromexcel pull-up. But no, that wasn't the worst. I flexed the upper and saw it. These are NOT chromexcel. There's ZERO pull up. The leather is on par with the cheapest Lands' End in-house boat shoes from SEVERAL years back, forget about cheap basic Sperry AO's in dept. stores. I went back to the listing here to make sure I didn't err in reading the details. No, it's still there: Horween® Chromexcel® leather upper. I'm stunned. There's a term for this kind of misinformation that I couldn't bear to use in the same sentence with the name Allen Edmonds. Again, I know there have been changes, but such egregious misinformation is not one I'll accept going forward as a customer. I treasure my MacNeils, Strands, Park Ave's, Leeds, etc (I have been a brand loyalist for years, and encouraged others), but just don't feel trust right now. Not when names, model #'s, and receipts match, but the materials listed don't. I will not wear these. I should also say I ordered a few extra laces for my dress shoes that have yet to arrive, and now worry what I'll find there as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Florida footwear, snazzy color. These are quality leather that conform to feet and flex well for comfort. Socks optional, I prefer wearing this style barefoot. My first day wearing these was a long day, and involved some quarter-mile plus of trekking wet sod with the leather becoming saturated. The finish of the leather did not suffer ill effect, and no pressure points resulted that could cause discomfort or any hint of tendency to generate a blister. Previously I have had good experience with these in dark brown, and have even purchased a second pair of these nice green boat shoes for the future.

Why is this not manufactured in the USA? This is an american brand, so why not in USA?

    Asked by: Omega
Shoes which are not traditionally manufactured (i.e. wooden heels, leather soles, lasts, goodyear welt, etc.) are not made in Port Washington, WI by Allen Edmonds.

How is the fit of these compared to a traditional AE dress shoe?

I am a 9D/E in traditional AE dress shoes and don't have anywhere near me that carries AE Boat Shoes/Slip-Ons to try something on for fit - would I be able to order my normal AE sizing and expect a similar/proper fit?

Can this shoe be recreated like the traditional AE shoes?

Can this shoe be recreated like the traditional AE shoes? I'd prefer to purchase shoes that have longevity and quality that AE is known for with regards to recrafting
    Asked by: Munna
Your local cobbler can but the sole itself costs around $75 so it doesn't make too much sense with this type of shoe. AE will not because they would have to charge more than the shoe.

Are the colors in the website accurate? How orange is orange, the picture looks more tan, which is what I want

    Asked by: Al
I have the orange, and yes, they are pretty tan in color. Not a bright orange like the green and red appear to be bright green and red. Still a great shoe, love the color on the whole.

does this show have a heel cup?

I have had trouble with boat shoes in the past- I have a problem with supination, so I need a shoe that has some built in structure and support. These look great, but I would definitely need them to have a heel cup/reinforcement for support. Thank you.
    Asked by: JimD
    They do not
