Caravaggio Double Monk Strap is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful but shoes are uncomfortable because of tongue. Shoes are beautiful, large tonge cuts into top of the dorsum of the foot. It makes shoes uncomfortable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Caravaggio is attractive but has a minor design flaw I’ll be brief. It’s a nice shoe that fits well, looks good and is well constructed. One design element is unfortunately not as functional as it is stylish. The belt “buckle” in which the strap goes through has a slight gap at the top of the buckle. It’s a neat design feature that is atypical of these shoes and adds an element of interest. The challenge is that it’s impractical in daily use and makes the threading of the strap through the buckle more complicated. The strap often gets caught in this gap or doesn’t go through cleanly or rest cleanly once through. It’s not a deal breaker, but it’s annoying. It also is a moment of form over function that perhaps isn’t necessary or useful. The shoe is otherwise very nice, that annoying feature takes it down a notch for me.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor leather quality I can't be more disappointed in this product. My wife purchased this for my birthday and it took me a couple of months to actually wear them out and while leather stiffness is expected (and they were stiff), what surprised me was how poor the leather quality was. They creased and cracked significantly after just one wear, the type of cracking where it looks like it just might flake off, not a natural leather crease. 3 wears in, part of the straps have flaked off exposing the white underneath. I have kept shoe trees on these since I bought them and have been careful to avoid any harsh treatment or conditions but I'm skeptical that these would really hold up in the long term, even with the best of care. This is my first and only pair of this shoe so my experience is admittedly limited, so I would just say to tread carefully if you purchase these

The front part of the collar of the left shoe digs into the flesh. Is that part of the breaking in process?

    Last description please

I understand these are not buiklt on an AE last so could you please give a description of the last this product is built on, or a description how the product fits such as the fit at the heel, and from the ball of the foot etc.? Thank you
    Asked by: Sean
The Italian Collection is not constructed on our traditional lasts. This style has the sleek profile of Italian shoe but with the comfort that comes from the more generous American style toe box. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

    Welting and re-sole?

Information about the welting is not included in the description, and another question response indicates that due to the construction method, they cannot be recrafted. What is the construction method, and does this mean they cannot be re-soled, or just not recrafted by AE?
    Asked by: Christopher
For the Bologna is an Italian method of construction that does not feature a welt. The upper is sewn directly to the sole which makes for a super-flexible, highly comfortable shoe from the very first wearing. Recraftability depends on various factors for each style; if the style is eligible for our services, it will be indicated in the online description of that shoe. Unfortunately, this style is not eligible for our Recrafting services. We apologize we are unable to advise if another cobbler can assist you with a resoling. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

How about more modern colors like chili, merlot/burgundy, and oxblood?

    Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your inquiry. This style is not available in those colors at this time. We recommend taking a look at the St. Johns double monk strap, that style is offered in Walnut and Dark Chili. Feel free to contact us again if you have additional questions!
