    Classic Fit

St. John's Double Monk Strap is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 80.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from not what it was once i have 3 sneakers in allen edmons, the white low top, baby blue suede and the brown sneaker as well. I also wear the snuff color in nomad chukka and the chelsea nomad in black color.. I love this brand for their styles and them also being made in america but its very distracting that i pay a premium for declining quality.. i bought this shoe and it doesnt fit true to size and it sucks because i love this style. I heard its because allen edmonds has a new owner. Anyway, there are alot of other compettitors these days like thursday boots which offer great quality and is modern so allen edmonds should be aware of this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great looking stylish shoe, lots of complements, nicely blens with many colors. Love the fit of the shoe and very well constructed. Love the walnut covered leather.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing quality and total lack of quality control I'll start by saying that this is one of my most favorite styles in all of AE lineup, and one of the best looking double monk straps out there, in my opinion. It combines a perfect blend of classic and modern, without being too formal or too trendy. I also love the dark chili color. With that said, I've been trying to get my hands on a pair of St. Johns for a while, and after having gone through several pairs of them, I keep getting more and more disappointed with declining quality of AE shoes. I've gone through several pairs now, and every single pair had defects that should not have made it past QC department. I'm not talking about minor scuffs or dings - the issues were obvious and glaring, that would have been caught if anybody cared enough to look at each of these pairs. Frayed and uneven stitching, unevenly cut and lasted uppers (right shoe is different shape from left), monk "flaps" stitched on crooked, loose grain, etc. I've taken pictures of every defective pair I've received, but the website wouldn't let me upload them. I would still like to own a pair of these, but finding one of acceptable quality has become an impossible task.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Sloppy Stitch Work Corners were literally cut when it came to the stitching on this shoe. Maybe it was a holiday rush job to produce the two pairs I received and shipped back, but it’s not what I expected from a premium shoe company. The stitch lines did not maintain a consistent pattern or follow the edges of the leather uniformly. Tooling is getting dull and attention to detail is slipping. Service was good enough, but i paid for quality shoes and Allen Edmonds couldn’t deliver the great product that made them famous.

    About shoes with same last

I would like to know whether different shoes with same last would have the same fit. Like the ST. JOHN'S DOUBLE MONK STRAP, the EXCHANGE PLACE CAP-TOE DRESS SHOE and the LEIDEN WINGTIP BLUCHER are all manufactured in 1943 last, so if the LEIDEN's 9D fits me perfectly, would 9D of the other two pairs fit me well? Because in my understanding, the same last means the same shape of shoes, so the same fit. Thank you, K.
    Asked by: CostuK
No these do not have the exact same fit. I have the double monks in 9 3E (and honestly the 9 E would probably be better tighter fit), while the Leidens I had to get in 9.5 3E. Don't know why, but the Leidens were putting pressure on my pinky toe in the size 9 3E even though I don't have that issue with the double monks. I had later found out that that the last isn't the best fit for me, my foot prefers the 201 last.

    How are the buckles attached?

Are the buckles attached to the leather, or held on with elastic? I find if its just elastic the shoes always feel loose if there is elastic that simply holds the buckles to the side of the shoe so the shoes look correct that would be fine.
    Asked by: Mike
The bottom/lower buckle is attached with a leather loop, and the top buckle is attached with an elastic loop that has some give.

How Long will the Squeaking Last??

I love the looks of my St. Johns and they are as comfortable as my McAllister's but the squeaking is driving me nuts. I understand that the flap over the instep (leather on leather) is causing the noise. I only wear these in the house because they are too noisy to wear in public!!! Any ideas or tips on how to make this noise go away???
    Asked by: sandiegoken
The show lotion worked immediately....Thanks, I applied it to the tongue and underside of the flap and the squeaks are gone.

is this a slip on or do you have to buckel and unbuckel when putting on & off?

    Asked by: Hike
Wouldn't advise to use this show as slip on. I always unbuckle before putting them on

333 last compared to 1943 Last

I own 2 pairs of shoes with the 333 last. I am looking at the St. Johns Double Monk Strap which is made with the 1943 Last. How does the 1943 compare to the 333 in terms of width and fit?
    Asked by: Mochi
The 1943 last is a derivative of our established 333 last, we reduced the toe length and widened the fit across the ball of the foot. The 1943 is a new last in the Refined Dress category. A soft square toe shape is paired with a sculpted, longer forepart and higher cone than our traditional Timeless Classic lasts. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

    Belt to match shoe

    Matching belt
    Asked by: John
For black, go with the black croc belt. At $295 it's a bargain, and it's a little wider and so shows well.
