    Care Instructions

Cordovan leather requires different care than calfskin due to its unique properties. Brush and wipe regularly and apply cream occasionally to protect the leather and maintain its rich color.

    Regular Maintenance:

Regularly, brush the leather with our Horsehair Shine Brush or wipe with our Cotton Flannel Polishing Cloth.

To Protect and Restore Color, Follow These Steps:

STEP 1: Wipe your shoe down with a damp cloth and allow to dry.

STEP 2: Using your Horsehair Dauber, apply a small amount of Cordovan cream in a circular motion.

STEP 3: While the cream is still slightly wet, take our Horsehair Shine Brush and brush back and forth, heating the cream and leather. This allows the natural oils to move to the surface to bring out the leather's natural shine.

STEP 4: Next, use the soft side of our Cotton Flannel Polishing Cloth to buff the shoe until the surface is no longer tacky. Often, some excess cream will transfer onto the cloth, which is normal.

STEP 5: Take our Heel Dressing applicator and press against the edge of the heel and sole.

    Classic Fit

Most people consider a “classic” fit to be a “standard” fit. This fit more closely aligns with the natural shape of your feet.

MacNeil Cordovan Wingtip Dress Shoe is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 292.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Burgundy Shell Cordovan Macneils I'd been looking at these shoes and following the reviews for almost a year now. Regardless of the negative posts regarding thin shell cordovan leather and quality control issues, I decided to purchase these shoes. I went into the Germantown store and spoke to Ms. Shazia Brassfield regarding my concerns mentioned above. Ms. Brassfield assured me my purchase would be fine just as she'd done several times before (yes I've purchased 7-10 pairs of AE's from her). I placed my order on 10/1 and received the shoes today, 10/16. Upon arrival at AE Germantown, I was in awe of the quality, craftsmanship, and overall presentation of the burgundy Shell Cordovan Macneils. I sat there in the store and looked for flaws, looked for bad stitching, looked for a misplaced heel pad, looked for scratches, looked for irregular creasing, looked for discolorations, looked for misalignment of the wings, and looked for blemishes -there were none! I actually tried the shoes on and wore them in the store for at least 30 minutes as a comfort test- totally passed! I couldn't be more pleased with this purchase. I can't speak on the experiences of other people, however I can most definitely share mine. My experiences and interactions with Ms. Shazia Brassfield and Allen Edmonds have most definitely been very positive experiences. In my humble opinion, AE continues to produce a superior product and the professionalism and customer service exhibited makes me a loyal customer. These shoes look awesome with a pair of dark slim fit jeans or dress pants, either way, you can't go wrong. I'm getting compliments on the shoes right now and they are just sitting in the box on my desk here at work.....

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Quality has declined I used to buy from Johnston and Murphy until their quality declined. Came over to A&E and had great luck with 2 pair of shoes than the quality started to decline (2017). Looking for a new shoemaker. Sorry to see great companies decline. Trying to buy USA but corporate leaders trying to cut cost too much.

What is the difference between this shoe and the Alden 975 Cordovan Longwing?

I am in a toss-up between both of these shoes. They are also akin to the old Florshiem Royal Imperial shell cordovan longwing bluchers. I think it is an iconic look and I am hoping to add one to my collection. I guess my question is, to whatever knowledge you have, what advantage might the Allen Edmonds have to the Alden of the same style and materials? I am in a serious toss-up! I'm obviously not trying to get anyone t osay anything bad about something, but there isn't a place where I can compare them side-by-side!!!!
    Asked by: Andy
Hi Andy! Thank you for your interest in our McNeil Cordovan. You'll find this style is handcrafted using our 360º Bench Welt construction for durability and stability. It features a Double Redenbach leather sole and combination heel, and CustomCork™ insole naturally molds for a custom fit. We also use Genuine Shell Cordovan from the Horween tannery in Chicago. We apologize we cannot speak to the specific components of the Alden style in question. We recommend contacting them directly to learn more about it. With that said, Alden also makes great shoes and we have nothing but respect for them. They use fine quality materials and similar construction methods as we do, and we both handcraft our shoes in the USA. The main difference between Alden and Allen Edmonds is that Alden is a family-owned business. We hope this information helps! ~Anne

I have 4 pairs of McAllister size 71/2 EEE which fit perfectly. Should I order the same size in the Macneil Cordovan?

    Asked by: TimD
Yes, the cordovan will fit the same as calf. Just don’t expect any stretching. So, as long as your calf MacNeils fit on day one, you cordovan MacNeils will fit on day one.

    Recraftable?

Hello. I just compared three cordovan shoes. Their individual descriptions state that they are recraftable. When I select all three and compare the shoes, the summary states that none of them are recraftable. Which is correct? Thank you.
    Asked by: Anonymous
All are recraftable if they are McNeils.

Dainite or V-tread still "Double Oak"?

Hi. If I order the Macneil with either a Dainite or V-Tread sole, is it still considered a double oak sole? Ie., is a rubber sole ordered on a double oak shoe like the Macneil any thicker or more substantial than say, a Dainite sole ordered on a single oak sole like the Strand? JSB
    Asked by: James
When ordering the custom sole option for the Macneil, the Dainite sole and the V-tread sole will not be double the thickness. The Dainite sole in general is already slightly thicker than a single oak leather sole, but not considered a double sole. At this time we do not offer double soles for the Dainite or V-Tread soles. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

It all depends on the look you are striving to achieve. I would say a dark brown would set these shoes off.
