McAllister Wingtip Oxford with Dainite Rubber Sole is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 176.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from AE quality continues to decline I purchased these shoes with great hope: popular model, 1st quality, in oxblood, with Dainite. Shoes arrived looking pretty good, with a few flaws: dry leather with a slightly discolored dye patch on one shoe on a small portion near the toe medallion, and black staining on both toes, above the sole. I was disappointed about the black staining above the soles, but felt the flaws were acceptable for the discounted price ($275). Then I wore them in the rain…twice....Wow! Hopefully, my cobbler will be able to remove the black stains seeping up onto the upper from the soles; I fear it will worsen with exposure. Perhaps the shoes weren’t meant to be worn outside? I’ve been an AE customer for over 20 years. Quality and oversight continue to decline. Potential buyers should heed the increasing # of accounts on internet forums of diminished AE quality. Consider only buying their outlet shoes, or if buying 1st quality, only at a generous discount. While they once were market leaders, AE is no longer the top quality option in dress shoes. (The reason they are now constantly on sale or often purchased used.) There are far better options than AE (even at a discount). AE will now probably follow its modus operandi with one of their gratuitous apologies, suggesting that I contact the customer service team. For what purpose? Their formulaic response and appearance of good customer service, does nothing to improve the poor quality issues.) This is the second quality-affected purchase I’ve experienced in a short time period. I won’t be purchasing shoes from AE again. Caveat emptor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Splendid! Beautiful! Very Happy! I have worn almost exclusively Allen Edmonds for over 40 years. They were mostly dress classics over the years, size 11A, but, since retiring, I have acquired a number of more casual models. Those are not available in A width and I have struggled to get the right size and used a lot of insoles and fillers. These McAllister's in 11A with Dainite Rubber Sole are a wonderful return to one of my memorable classics! They are perfect in every respect!

Is the McAllister in oxblood OK for Jeans and Casual wear? I wear my Walnut Strand cap toe with dress and casual. With the 65 last I am hoping for

the same great fit and comfort with the McAllister.
    Asked by: Sam
Certainly with a nice pair of slacks and sport shirt. I would consider them a little dressy for jeans but that's a very personal decision and I don't own any jeans! The fit is perfect and just like the first pair of McAllister's I bought 40 years ago!

What Color Edge Dressing for Walnut?

I bought a pair of the walnut McAllisters. Obviously the polish I need is Walnut, but which edge dressing, Brown or Chili?
    Asked by: AZLobo
We usually suggest the Brown Heel & Sole Edge Dressing, however either color may be used depending on your desired results. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

Can you put a shoe heel/tap on a dainite sole? The heel of the shoe has a built in tap of sorts, but it isn’t preventing my heel from wearing.

    Asked by: Anonymous
When the heels are worn we recommend sending eligible styles to our Recrafting department for the 'New Heel' service. With that said, customers have added tap soles to their shoes through their own means, but that is a personal choice based on their own needs and preferences. Keep in mind, in some cases, prior work on Allen Edmonds shoes by other cobblers may prevent us from Recrafting a pair of shoes. We recommend contacting our Recrafting Customer Service team at 877-495-5564 for further assistance.

Should I use a neutral heel and sole dressing for the McAllister Dark Chile?

    Asked by: Anonymous
You can simply use a damp cloth to clean the sole edge. Some customers use the Black Heel & Sole Edge Dressing on the black Dainite sole to refresh the look. Keep in mind however, that the heel base and welt are leather and a different color so it should be applied carefully. We suggest using Brown Heel & Sole Edge Dressing in those areas if needed. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

    Sizing of Mcallister wingtips

Hello, I normally wear size 10.5 UK, both in Herring and Clark's (but 12 US in my Nike trainers, manufacturers are very inconsistent! :). My feet measure around 28.6 to 28.9cm. Which size should I get? Also, I am wondering if the Oxford style will feel much more restricted than a Derby type? Currently all my shoes are derbys, which makes me quite happy, but I love this shoe in particular.. :) Thanks to any answerers!
    Asked by: Ohad
Allen Edmonds shoes are constructed on a wide variety of lasts (foot molds) and each will feature unique fit characteristics. It is difficult to recommend a size through this channel and guarantee a proper fit because each style can fit differently based on the contours of your feet. Typically, we recommend trying the same size you usually wear in dress shoes and judge the fit based on how comfortable you feel in the shoes. A blucher is a style where the quarters flap open at the vamp, giving extra room at the throat and instep in fitting. The opposite of the balmoral style, which has a sewn, closed vamp.   It is vitally important to visit an Allen Edmonds retail store or retail partner for a professional fitting to increase your chances of being fit correctly for each last and style. If that's not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on AllenEdmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip.  Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoes in returnable condition. http://www.allenedmonds.com/discover/shoes-101/sizefit.html

    Stretch the instep?

I like this design but I have a slight high instep, so there is always a V-gap when I lace them on. I don't want to go too big size, So I am thinking if the instep can be stretched by a shoe stretcher. I saw there are such instep shoe stretcher online, but would like to double check if calfskin is tolerant to stretch. Would stretching cause longevity or cosmetic issue? Thanks, L
    Asked by: LaurenK
It's perfectly fine for Balmorals to have a V shape on the lace area as long as the shoe fits comfortably. Stretching is not recommended as it's not effective. If stretched too much it will damage the leather, when stretching slightly the leather will simply bounce back to it's original shape. If the shoes don't fit comfortably, we suggest trying a different size/width combination or a different style. Bluchers tend to be more forgiving on the instep area, we suggest considering the Leiden or the MacNeil 2.0 wingtips. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

McAllister Walnut with Dainite Rubber Sole, Color Heel&Sole Edge

I just got my new AE McAllisters, since it is my 1st pair of walnut colored rubber sole shoes, I would like to ask for the recommanded Heel & Sole Edge dressing for this combination. The Heel is kind of dual color, Black and Walnut so I am not sure about it. My first thought would be clear/neutral color for the trim, am I right ?
    Asked by: Tom
That's an interesting question. I would go with the brown or neutral. In my opinion the brown will make the black brownish, maybe, but won't affect the brown. Neutral is not a bad choice, unless you have some damage that needs recoloring. If recoloring is needed I would use a Q-Tip to apply a coloring agent to the scoffed area, but brown or neutral are my suggested choices.
