Strandmok Cap-toe Oxford with Dainite Rubber Sole is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 131.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Took a Chance... I have been wearing Allen Edmonds shoes for 30+ years. This was my 13th pair. I read many of the reviews (good and bad) and decided to take a chance and purchase the Strandmock in brown with red Dainite soles online. Out of the box, the tongue on the left shoe was sewn in cattywampus resulting in a bad fit and look. Like others have commented, I believe the current workmanship of Allen Edmonds shoes is not what it once was - that's disappointing. I'm going for a refund as opposed to exchanging this pair for a properly made pair. I really wanted to like this model but I don't like the finish. I know they're supposed to have a distressed look and are supposed to wear/patina over time but they have some type of weird topcoat applied over a dyed base. Mine were much darker brown than expected. One shoe came with some scratches that I'm not sure would "polish-out". For me, this model in this color and finish is a "miss".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Style I really like my new Strandmok Cap-toe Oxford with Dainite rubber sole. These shoes fit true to size and are very comfortable. I needed almost not break-in time. I have been wearing these with both Docker's and Jean's at work and when going out during the day. These shoes are very well constructed of high quality materials. You cannot go wrong with AE. If at all possible, I recommend you go into an AE store to get fitted and try on several models. If you are like me, you will end up getting several pair within a short period of time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great right outa the box I find these, and other Allen Edmonds shoes to be comfortable with almost no break in period. The rubber sole gives these a nice casual look to go with jeans.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I used to love these Until they were ruined by Saphir's Renomat cleaner, the most popular cleaner on the market. It straight up TORE OFF the apparently LOUSY finish on these shoes. This is the worst quality upper I've ever seen from Allen Edmonds. It's too bad, too, because the shoes LOOK great...as long as you NEVER clean them.

Is there a brown polish that will stick to this leather?

I have tried AE Premium Shoe Polish, Kiwi shoe cream, Kiwi shoe polish and I can't find anything that will stick to this shoe or cover scuff marks. Is there any way to reapply the dark brown color to these shoes?
    Asked by: Chris_B
Hello Chris, We would recommend using the Allen Edmonds Cream polish in brown. The cream polish renews color, covers scratches, and moisturizes the leather. Our brown polish can accommodate dark brown, coffee, and brown burnish. We hope this helps!

How stiff are the soles on the Strandmok Cap-toe Oxford with Dainite Rubber Sole? More or less compared to thick leather?

    How to polish scuff marks

I have the Brown Strandmok and was wondering how to polish scuff marks. Specifically, I have a few streaks on the toe that are a couple inches long that I would like to clean up.

Will cleaning these shoes cause the finish to wear?

A few answers indicate that these shoes have a brown finish designed to gradually wear off. Will using saddle soap, or something like Saphir Renovateur, cause premature wear? Would it be better to just wipe them down and then apply a conditioner? Thanks, and they're great shoes so far.
    Asked by: Anonymous
Its possible, however typically we do not recommend using Saddle Soap it's not necessary to use on brand new footwear. Saddle Soap is best for product buildup or shoes that are very dusty or dirty. You can simply use a lightly damp cloth with water or leather lotion to clean the surface of the leather. What kind of leather is brown strandmok?

Is it chromexel? like the black version?
    Asked by: Anonymous
The leather used on the brown Strandmok is not Chromexcel leather. The base color of the leather is tanned/dyed in a "Gold" tone and then a Dark Brown finish is applied to the top side of the material. When the shoe is assembled, we take it to our burnishing wheel and brush off the top finish to reveal the gold base, which gives us a fantastic ‘distressed/vintage’ aesthetic. This will continue to develop a distressed look overtime with normal wear. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

    Can I distress these more?

I ordered Strandmoks and mine are on the darker side. I’d like for more of the lighter color to shine through. What can I use to rub off some of the darker color and let the light shine through.
    Asked by: MCooley
The finish of the brown Strandmok is intended to brush off on its own overtime with normal wear and reveal the golden tones underneath. You may try to accelerate the distressing but we recommend being very careful not to damage the leather. Start with soft cloths or brushes to see if you get your desired results and built up from there. Extra fine sandpaper or sponges are more abrasive and may damage the leather. If you decide to try to distress this style, we suggest to do so on an inconspicuous area of the shoe, such as the back or side of the heel and evaluate the results. Keep in mind, doing this would deem the shoe non-returnable. Alternately, if the shoes are still unworn, you may also ask for an exchange to see if you like another pair better. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.
