Tupelo Cap-Toe Oxford is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Probably need to rethink this one For my third AE shoe I tried the Tupelo Cap Toe Oxford. They have a similar look on the website to the Strandmok cap toe shoes that I love, and I liked the idea of the lugged sole for a casual and maybe foul-weather shoe. I went through two orders with the shoes that arrived bearing visible scuffs (in both cases the boxes were also damaged, suggesting they had been sitting in inventory somewhere for a while). The leather is thinner than the Strandmok and the look and feel is cheaper. Both pairs went back. Not turned off on AE, as I am replacing the shoe with a third Strandmok cap toe. But I am turned off on that shoe, both because of the twice that I received damaged merchandise and because even apart from the damage they look and feel kind of cheap. Maybe it's a $149 offering by Johnston & Murphy, but not $349 (or even the $299 sale price) from AE.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beautiful potential but agverage reality The Tupelow is beautiful, appears to have so much potential but falls short of the comfort that is Allen Edmonds. The upper is stylish and very well made but the interior is partially lined, not what I have come to expect from A-E. The puron foot-bed/soft sole combination is very light and comfortable but the cap toe ends at the natural foot-fold crease rubbing on the top of the foot, One final issue is the sides are slightly high as to interfere very slightly at the ankle. The fit is true to size in length and width if not slightly generous. All-in-all, I haven't sent them back.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Update to my try in review I decided to pick up the Tupelo in Dark Brown. This shoe will fit in nicely with casual and sloppy weather dress. My usual size in the Heritage Strand is a 9.5B. This style fit well in a 9.5D. I tried on the 9D and that fit was acceptable. Both sizes felt like they fit so I opted with the larger size. The shoe is described as tumbled leather but it is very smooth vs the Tumbled leather of the Strandmok. The shoe presents well and is very light. The XL Henry outsole is very springy. One very minor issue that I noted was a straight pencil mark on the vamp of the left shoe. It looked like a mark that may have been made to ensure the medallion and perfing stayed centered when the upper was stitched. The medallion is perfectly on the center line of the shoe so if this is the case, it worked quite well. Took them home and stripped the vamp on both shoes and polished the areas with a Cordavan creme polish. Cleaning the vamp left the line more noticeable. The Cordavan creme covered the mark perfectly. I also used a conditioner all over the shoe to give further protection in the rain and snow. One thing that I did notice is that when rambling down my stairs the soles did compress quite a bit. A different feel but not bad. I still plan on replacing the sole with a comando sole when the sole wears out. The 360 degree welt makes this possible at my local cobbler. If you want a Strandmok but don’t like the Dainite sole, this is a great option. Especially if you like your shoes as lite as possible.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost perfect I have a walnut Strand with a Vibram lug sole. I wanted a dark brown pair and I noticed the Tupelo. I went down to my AE retail store and tried a pair on. The shoe workmanship looked very good. No loose stitching and a nice even finish from the ones that I saw. They seemed to fit a bit more narrow than say the Strand or Strandmok. I am not sure what type of leather it is but it was nice and seemed to be combination tanned. The leather is also very comfortable for a semi-lined shoe. Two issues for me and they may not be for you. First, I wear a B width and sizing down in a D usually is not a good option for me. Second, the Henry XL sole is quite soft and a bit springy. I am more used to leather foot beds and solid soles. This shoe has Poron in the foot bed and a springy sole. If you like really soft feeling under your feet, this may be a shoe for you. I still may pick it up because it is attractive and the price at the moment is good. I can always put a more solid sole on it later.

I see that the shoes only come in widths D and EEE. The reviews are coming back stating that these run a bit narrow. Can you confirm this?

    Asked by: Ed
Each style can fit differently based on the contours of your feet, so it’s difficult to recommend a size via social media and guarantee a proper fit. Typically, we recommend trying the same size you usually wear and judging the fit based on how comfortable you feel in the shoes.

You mention that the shoe is made with tumbled leather. Yet in the pictures the leather does not resemble tumbled leather. It also says the shoe is imported yet it is made on the 65 last. Is all of this correct?
    Asked by: shoenut
Good evening Phil. The Tupelo Cap-toe Oxford has a partially lined premium tumbled leather upper. The country of Origin is the Dominican Republic and is made on the 65 last. Thank you for being an Allen Edmonds customer!
